What always gets me is people shitting on California for some "zany" regulation, and then 20 years later being like "oh noes, we're experiencing the same thing California experienced 20 years ago and explicitly designed that regulation to fix." The people of Los Angeles circa 1985 were shocked to realize something once the pollution started to relinquish: “Oh wow, there are beautiful MOUNTAINS around this city!” Monstrous, foreboding land formations that were made impossible to see by a disgusting smog stew. i mean, the skyline photos of that city in 1983 are unbelievable. It looks like the opening to a Canon Films feature.
Ironically not only were there mountains, the mountains were the reason for the stew. The place is a damn topographic fishbowl. Spoiler Not that anyone asked, but yes I have climbed those. Literal sea level to 9k in the same city.
As much as I like shitting on California for bad policies, at least they had the foresight to build fail-safes into their legal system to easy roll-back changes and recoup investment when they realized that a lot of the current green tech wasn’t ready to replace fossil fuels. That’s a lesson Europe, specifically Germany, is going to learn the hard way.

For those not up on their Canadian news, sadly today there was a mass stabbing event in Saskatchewan. Thus far it's confirmed that 10 people have died, with more injured. The killers are still on the run unfortunately. One of them was on the CA version of "Most Wanted." Eyewitness reports have been tough to read. Especially if you have children.
