I don't know, off the top of my head. I guess the same way they'd find out before 2006? Or, the same way people like my mom, who has never used Twitter, or the other 75% of the US adults who don't use Twitter would find out? Or, maybe another Private company will step up with a useful platform?
Yeah, Twitter is in no way, shape, or form, to be considered an official communication path. It deserves to die a painful death for the shit storm that it is.
but let's play that out. What if it does die? Musk is on the hook for the $44 billion right? Those loans don't just suddenly go away? So sells tesla stock to pay for it, the value of which will decrease massively each time he sells off shares, correct? Could musk even scrounge up $44 billion if he sold all of tesla? Could twitter declare bankruptcy without it impacting him?
I don't see any indication that it's going to die. More people have talked about Twitter (on Twitter!) or complained about Twitter (on Twitter!) in the past week than they did back in June. There are 400k "verified" users now. A lot of those are journalists that work for major news corporations or freelance to them. They'll continue to pay and expense that monthly cost. Maybe they lose 1/2 of those 400k. But, how many more will sign up for the "opportunity" to have a blue check, or for the lols, now that it's open to all 450(?) million users? 1%? 4.5 million x $8 x 12 is $432 million, which seems like a lot of annual revenue. Who knows, it could be a total disaster, but I bet it doesn't die.
I hope Twitter dies, I just don’t think it will. The people who are complaining about $8 a month probably should be focusing on being less poor anyway.
If your company's value is so tightly coupled to Twitter, then the investment system is incredibly broken and deserves to fail.
I think it’s because they had to openly say that “no, we are still charging dickhead rates for lifesaving medications. Sorry to disappoint.”
Absolutely. Eli Lilly is a $335 billion company, founded in 1876. I'd add that if their Board let them get their value so tied to something a Tweet could crumble, it wasn't value anyway. Hey, at least, now they'll sell more Prozac.
When I first read the headline "Transgender wins The Greater Derry Beauty Pageant" I figured it would be an attractive looking person who gave the other 17-24 y/o women a good run in the looks department and maybe got a few extra points so the judges could be considered "woke" I was wrong. Hugely wrong. And I'm sure the young ladies who missed out on the $23k in scholarships don't mind at all that they were passed over for an overweight dude.
On the one hand, this is dumb. On the other hand, so is the idea that the prettiest girl in class needs an extra twenty grand just because life isn't unfair enough as it is.
The judges are going to need an orthopedist with how much they’re probably patting themselves on the back for that one.
What do you all use twitter for? I use it for real time info during sporting events. I like it because I can interact with other fans, friends, reporters, writers, etc. I get real time info and reactions. Something interesting I discovered via twitter. There is an entire homesteading community that moved to the middle of nowhere because they fear black people taking their capital. Also there is some strange element to it where they have shit tons of kids. The other interesting community I came across is catholic twitter, which basically exists to hate the LGBT community. Both of these groups team up to hate progressives. The main issue facing both of these groups is whether or not they should hate Trump. I discovered both of these communities because tucker max was interacting with them.
I know that I've said in the past that I don't have twitter, but that was a lie. I have a spam account to follow hot chicks, porn stars and amateur couples in case I want to rub one out without having to search for something on YouPorn. Random variety is the spice of life
I don’t either. I tried using it, but the UX of the popular apps for it was such a jumbled mess that I didn’t bother. I’ve never used Snapchat or TikTok either. I had a Facebook in college that’s still active but I barely touch it. I do like Instagram, but only to send my friends memes.
The closest I get to using twitter is by reading breaking NFL and NBA news on reddit posts, which cite tweets from reporters. Occasionally I'll get on there if there's a mass shooting or some other huge event to read firsthand accounts. But yeah, it going away would have zero negative impact on my life. There are other ways to get news stories out.
