There's a story that's now making national news, coming out of a small town in Texas where, at a high school girl's basketball game, the home crowd was making monkey noises whenever a black girl on the opposing team would take to the free throw line. I am close friends with a parent of a child on that team, and while the video does show what happened, it does not show how ongoing the chants were and hostile the crowd became. Sadly I can promise you that whatever punishment the students receive, as well as the parents and administrators who allowed it to continue, will not be anywhere close to enough.

The lakefront property and adjacent tourist areas are super wealthy, then you have the town of Marble Falls (where the incident happened) which is like lower middle class for the residents, but the schools pull from below poverty line areas as well. So you get a team "coming up from the city" who they don't like anyway, combine that with a heaping dose of jealousy and an observed attitude of their parents to be hateful toward anyone different than them, and it's a recipe for disaster.
