If you read Brave New World Revisited, Huxley talks a lot about how corrosive hypnotism and subliminal messaging would be to democracy, civil society, etc. Fortunately those techniques turned out to be bullshit that don't work, but a lot of what he talks about is applicable on some degree to internet-enabled disinformation campaigns. I think it's gonna be rough for a while.
Of course I can't find the article now, but I read something about companies (countries?) are going to start utilizing AI for internet "debates". It warms my heart to think that some mouth breather could be arguing about vaccines with a computer.
There have been a lot of interesting things like setting two instances into an argument with each other. Some people have done some innovative integrations that would make what you've described pretty easy.
Shooting in Monterey Park (heavy Chinese population) on Lunar New Year. Preliminary unconfirmed reports are 10 dead and 15+ wounded. edit: 15+ number may be total shot, so ~5+ in addition to the 10 reportedly unresponsive.
Still early in the investigation, but I read that it was at a dance studio several blocks from the Lunar celebration. Edit - Nearby city of Alhambra recently had a dance studio shooting also.
Seems likely that it was an afterparty of some kind. The city has a big public festival in the streets during the day, and people probably went to event spaces at night to continue the celebration. The studio is a ballroom studio that regularly hosts events.
Bodycam footage from Memphis is expected to be released tomorrow. Brace yourselves, because whatever is on that tape is apparently bad enough to charge five cops with murder within days.
Let’s not jump to conclusions here. We don’t even know whether or not he was selling loose cigarettes yet.
The cops weren't white, so quick action might make a bad situation even worse, since white cops don't get charged this quickly, like, ever...
Didn't he die at the hospital a couple days after the arrest? I think we know whatever is on that tape. They beat the shit out of him and he died from the internal injuries.
Damned if you do damned if you don't. So much for having police come from the community they serve amiright?
bootlicking Reddit comparing it to the Rodney king video hold on ladies and gents, this is about to get interesting
They’re releasing the video at 7pm ET. That fucking genius. Let people pregame for it. Get all drunk thinking how pissed off they’re gonna be, then see the video once they’re already primed to make bad choices. they should have released it at like 6:30 am. People wake up like “man the fuck is this? I need my coffee before I start thinking about this shit.”
Videos I am watching them as they are airing live on TV. I have not yet seen them all. But thus far a few things.... BRAGGING about the beating you gave the guy? Saying he's "on drugs or something" after he was not resisting at all? Holding him up and letting your other officers punch him in the face? And wtf paramedics, how long does it take to render basic fucking aid?!?
