I have already heard that rumor, but a quick Google search shows it’s mainly some rather sketchily named “media” sources. And also my one acquaintance who thinks this is all planned by the Israeli government and is “Ukraine for conservatives”

Exactly, the two sides have been fighting over this for 5000 years.

Why wait for work on Tuesday when you can pump this shit into your veins right now on Twitter. Nothing like the former president, current members of congress, RNC Chair and most of the online right wing media, spitting straight lies about how this is all Biden's fault. Two days ago these same people were calling for the head of Hillary Clinton because she said they need to be deprogrammed from the cult they are in and today they are using the rape and murder of people at a festival to try and score political points for an election a year away... It's fucking disgusting...

as anyone considered that we should just let them fight? Or are there more global implications for that happening?

If we're in the realm of just making up shit that might even be slightly plausible; I'm going to posit that Iran supplied information to Hamas on how to set up this attack unknown to Israeli intelligence based on intelligence given to them from the bathroom document kiosk in Mar-a-Lago.

Trump moved the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem after officially recognizing Jerusalem for Israel, so you never know.

We waited to join WWII until the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. We waited to fool with bin Laden until after 9/11. The "not our problem" is a common strategy. It's not typically popular with Jewish Americans, though.

Then they can grab a rifle on their pilgrimage back to the Holy Land. This isn't Pearl Harbor or 9/11. This is a religious war thats pretending to be a geographic one. None of the Arab countries in the region would ever give Palestine statehood if they controlled the West Bank, no matter how many hands are rung over it.

There really isn't much for the US to do. It's not like Israel needs our help achieving air superiority, or reaching long-range targets. They can hit Gaza with impunity from the air. And as far as ground troops are concerned, we have no intention of subjecting US servicemembers to that hornet's nest, especially when it feels like half of their duties would be trying to prevent the IDF from committing retaliatory war crimes.

We'll have our intelligence services keep our ears open for any Iranian involvement, and share intel with the Israelis on related matters, but I don't see a risk of us getting directly involved.

Also, literally every adult Israeli citizen, men and women, are required to serve in the military at some point. Likely for scenarios like this one. Plus, they reportedly have up to 40 nukes.

I mean, there's a little bit the US can do. Such as unwavering focus.

The last thing I saw was that Iran helped fund the attacks with all that money we just gave them. Ignoring that it's Iran's money that we are returning, and that the money hasn't actually been moved yet.

New report that Egypt's Intelligence Minister personally called Netanyahu ten days before the attack to warn him that Egypt was seeing signals of something big being planned out of Gaza. If Netanyahu's focus on the West Bank led to the kind of security lapses in Gaza that allowed this attack to happen, the political consequences inside Israel could be massive.

In fairness, though, there's always something being planned in Gaza. It's 140 sq miles, like twice the size of Washington DC. It's like the UK calling up Biden and saying, "we are hearing there are immigrants trying to cross the US/Mexico border illegally in Juarez."

I read that he has denied that reporting.
    https://www.timesofisrael.com/liveb...nies-getting-warning-from-egyptian-spymaster/

I mean, his word doesn't mean a whole lot. But if Egypt has receipts of such a conversation, he will have the blood of thousands on his hands from that level of security lapse.

Because they don’t want to deal with millions of Palestinians fleeing either.

This is the thing about the whole conflict. Palestinian people are nothing but a political football for everyone in the Middle East. They are a convenient prop to use to make Israel the worstest bad guys in the whole universe. But the people yelling about it don’t give a shit about the Palestinians either. Gaza is basically an Iranian proxy state. And the innocent people down there are caught in all the Hamas vs Israel fighting.

Also, the leaders of the Palestinian Territories aren’t interested in peace either because then they would have no purpose and there’s a lot of money in prolonged fighting. And they wouldn’t be able to save face on the Muslim world stage because they will be seen as friends of Jews.
