Probably, but it apparently did come from overseas. And this just went up: NYPD investigating "hoax" school threat.
Real or fake, if my kid is in school in there is a threat of a school being attacked, well, I want my fucking kid out of that school. The problem is now that we had a debatable you-know-what attack in Cali (they were extremist supporters after all) America is on edge and having flashbacks that horrible post-9-11 paranoia where everything was deemed a national threat. Would anybody else care for a shit sandwich? It's not like you have a choice.
How bad is your grade in AP Biology that you're willing to fake a terror threat? I think it's an idea worth exploring, as long as those who are armed pass proper training. I am not in favor of adding armed police all throughout the schools, but the teachers I know are brighter and better educated than a lot of the law enforcement I know. There are quite a few school districts that allow it already. School shootings are so rare, especially considering the number of schools / districts throughout the country, I'm not sure how long it would take to get useful data on whether or not it makes the schools safer.
A high school around here went on lockdown due to an verbal threat. Apparently some kid made a threat and the entire town lost its collective shit to a degree I've never seen before. My students were talking about it, so I had to look it up. Facebook to the "rescue." I use this term sarcastically because I genuinely wanted to kill myself after reading this shit. Reading Facebook has resulted in the following conclusions about this threat: It was from a student It was from a former student It was a verbal threat It was a non verbal threat The shooting would be in school The shooting would be outside the school It said they would shoot anyone not wearing stripes It said they would shoot anyone wearing stripes It said they would target one specific teacher It said they would target all teachers It said they would specifically not target teachers What is the end result of all this Chinese telephone bullshit? Parents lined up out the fucking door to pick their kids up because it's too dangerous to be in school today. Those same parents also saying how there are more police at school today than ever. Also saying they won't send their kids to school the rest of the week. When it was pointed out it is finals week, one parent said: "The school should do the right thing and give my kid A's on all her finals because it's too dangerous to send them." They're arguing over the school's response, arguing that school should be cancelled, arguing that their kids are too scared to go to school. Look, I am around high school kids all day, and I'll say this. 95% of them are not fucking scared. They see a chance to get out of finals, get out of going to school, and all they have to do is say "but threats scared shaking can't concentrate..." I have SO many students who would do this, without a second thought. Shit, I had one literally tell me he wished it was our school so he didn't have to take his finals. Ladies and gentlemen, the terrorists have won. This reaction? An entire town collectively shitting itself like this? Over what, a high school kid making a threat? Holy fuck.
In light of what just happened in San Bernardino , I guess they decided to err on the side of caution. If you remember there was a school right across from the shootings there and the first inkling the school had of the threat was when one of my co-workers called her friend, the principal. What's truly disturbing is going to the echo chambers that are the comments left for the articles: FOX News: "This all Obama's fault.", "Muslims", "Refugees" Huff Post: "This is all Trump's fault", "Christian terrorists", "Guns" Meanwhile, some kid in LA who knows how to use a proxy is shitting himself waiting for that knock on his door.
Convicted child molester Jerry Sandusky is going to be making more money than I am while he's sitting in prison. http://www.wgal.com/news/state-wont-fight-sandusky-pension-order/36990512
So I guess some guy (as a prank) got fifty Yale students to sign away their first amendment rights in an hour on camera. And this school is constantly ranked as one the top three schools in America. Wow.
He CLEARLY advanced on the officer. Dashcam footage of the shooting http://www.nbcdfw.com/news/local/Da...ved-Shooting_Dallas-Fort-Worth-362714211.html
Yes, it sure looks like he did. The kid looks hammered out of his mind, but he's carrying an axe and absolutely not responding to instruction. Not sure I'd have shot him three times, but that's just me, can't blame the cop for this one. In other news, more evidence about income inequality and the shrinking middle class in the US. More frighteningly, I still don't see any candidate actually addressing the issue head on.
Articles about the the middle class are especially click-baity during election season. Candidates arent addressing the issue because 1) how would anyone address it beyond lip service? There is so many factors in play regarding econometrics that solving the "issue" isnt really feasible, and 2) its not really a problem. Income level is the very tip of the iceberg. Other more important factors are purchasing power of the dollar and its related purchasing power parity. From the socioeconomic standpoint, the idea of the middle class is vaguely and inconsistently defined almost every time its brought up by the media. Its also heavily romanticized by the anti-realpolitik crowds. A shrinking middle class can be easily moved in either direction when the bar for classification is also shifted.
Anyone else think that there will now be an exam time terror threat, a la "road trip" every year? It sure doesn't take much to scare the shit out of Americans these days... You can argue "statistics" about the middle class, but it's not hard to find evidence that a lot more people are poor than used to be acceptable and a lot of families are a chronic illness away from bankruptcy.
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/gun-safety-instructor-shoots-pastor-during-demonstration-in-california/ "Tom Smith, a family pastor who also helps with church security, was shot by his own gun safety instructor. Modesto Police say they were acting out a scenario when a loaded gun the instructor was holding accidentally went off. They say they gun fired at the end of class after the instructor put a mock gun down and picked up his real loaded gun." On one hand, good for them learning about firearms. On the other... yep. I gotta know what the instructor's qualifications were. I'm guessing America.
I hate it when people describe accidental situations this way. Almost certainly the real description should read "the instructor unintentionally pulled the trigger." Every accidental shooting can be traced back to something someone did wrong, and those causes need to be highlighted. Guns don't just "go off," and describing these situations that way leads people to believe that guns are capricious objects that just randomly spray bullets whenever they want. If we all follow all the rules, nobody gets hurts. The instructor missed three fundamental rules - always treat it as if it's loaded; always point it in a safe direction; keep your finger off the trigger until you're ready to fire. He has no business being an instructor.
So, you mean when the headline reads "SUV crashes into Dunkin Donuts," that it was actually somehow the driver's fault and not the vehicle accidentally driving like that? Odd.
This is why I don't want guns in schools. I couldn't trust 90% of my teachers to actually teach me something. I can't imagine what they would do with a gun involved.
Lord of the Douche Bags and pharmaceutical price-gouger, Martin Shkreli, has been arrested on fraud charges: http://gawker.com/pharmaceutical-price-gouger-martin-shkreli-arrested-on-1748478749
I heard at least twice and also heard he told a local witness "see you in the after life". I live maybe 15 minutes from where this happened.
