Not particularly. There's the sound of air being pushed out of the fly-wheel, but even that isn't too bad. I regularly watch TV while doing it and don't have to turn it to an awkwardly high level to be able to hear it over the rower.
Again, as somebody who doesn’t have one, but is definitely going to, and has watched a lot of review/recommendation videos - so take that as you will. That “Training Tall” guy mentions that it can get loud, so he says you might want to keep that in mind if you’re in an apartment-type situation. But a lot of comments say it’s not that bad, and don’t seem to get complaints from neighbors. Also, most of his reviews for other quiet rowers (magnetic) is that when you start to really push, you can often push past the resistance of the magnet, so it can fuck up your stroke and not really give you the workout you want. A big thing he talks about is “full range of motion,” so even when looking at other models, I’m always looking at whether the fly wheel is far enough away from the stirrups so that you can get that same range. There are others that have that - but from what I’ve found, are also so close in cost to the Concept2 that it’s still worth getting. Water rowers have that cool liquid “whoosh” and are endorsed by Frank Underwood, but even he broke his. And the Concept2 isn’t gonna ever leak.
If the world's strongest man can go ape on one and not do any damage to it, you're not going to ever worry about breaking yours.
Im in Florida on vacation and am thinking about doing chartered fishing trip. Id just be me. Just looking to fish for edible stuff, not huge sport fishes. How much does it usually run with tipping? Do I have to bring my own rods? Just pic best reviewed? There are ten million is seems.
Unless you have an amazing rod, you should not have to bring your own gear. A typical charter should run you $100-$200 for a day.
That sounds insanely cheap. All good fishing captains that I know, properly licensed to carry people on the water in exchange for money, would scoff at that number. Particularly with the current costs of fuel. Is that a price for something like a per-person price for a group?
Joining a group or jumping on a head boat could reduce your costs tremendously. Last one I took was $1,200 for the boat and $200 tip. That was for a group of up to 5 on a 40ish' boat. And it was at least 15 years ago. It didn't get cheaper for less people, because the costs to run the boat didn't decrease with less people.
That was a per-person price in my experience, not the group. A solo person renting out a whole boat might be different.
I’m getting charter quotes here on the great lakes for like $500 a half day for two of us, not including tip. Buddy has a boat, we just don’t know how to fish the area, so are chartering in order to increase our local knowledge.
Id rather find a private boat that needs an extra person than do one of these "public" boats but Im not sure how youd find the former. I called a private boat but the lady that answered just directed me to the public option and was real short and annoyed when I had questions.
I'd be tempted to call the local marina and tell them what you're looking for. I've found an excellent charter like that in the past.
i was recently in Florida and the guy I’ve been with a few times just upped his half day to $500 ($200 for the first hour, $100 per hour after that). I lucked into finding him through word of mouth, but anyone good usually came at a higher rate, and anything lower than that was almost always where you’re on a boat with the rest of the unwashed masses. if you want a decent private charter, I’d expect to pay around $500-650, going up from there depending on the boat you’re on and where you’re going. At least it was recently in the tampa/Sarasota area.
I'd check Facebook for local fishing groups and charters, go ahead and post what you are looking for if you don't mind someone seeing that you are on vacation, which is always sketchy nowadays. Ask local bait shops. Which part of Florida you in?
Miami this week. Venice next. I’m heading to some bait shops tomorrow. I’m skeevy on the whole thing as I assume the bait shops probably just steer tourists too their shitbird friends. 500 per person? I’d prefer a private boat but at lawyers fees I’d better be bringing home some real weight.
it was $500 for up to 4 people. Again, that was fairly standard. Around 4-6 people, depending on boat size, around that price range. Price went up if you were adding more people, more time, etc. One person on the boat costs them the same as a group, minus a bit of bait.
The huge majority of these guys are operating on an OUPV 6 pack license. There can be 6 unlicensed people on board if the boat is big enough, including crew/deck hand that handles bait and rigging rods. If the deck hand doesn't have a license, he counts as a passenger and the number of paying passengers allowed will drop to 5. Any more than 7 people, total, on the boat is a red flag. You get pulled over by the coast guard, day ruined. Head boats are operated by people with unlimited licenses, usually only limiting tonnage of the vessel they can operate. Most of these guys can carry a boat load of passengers on an appropriately sized vessel within the tonnage limits of their license. These boats are inspected and certified as safe whereas the OUPV boats are not, not by any governing body. The U stands for uninspected. There are fishing Facebook groups for both areas with thousands of members. I bet someone on them can help you find something. Any marina would know it's against the law to run illegal charters, they might steer you to a friend or a slip holder, but I bet they will at least be licensed.
