I seem to remember that originally when the RMMB went down, someone had or found a backup of the entire board. If someone could get in contact with via PM would be great.

    Thanks

I know there are some people on here in the Twin Cities, I am trying to find a good store to head to for some St. Patrick's day shirts (no I'm not the d-bag who just acts Irish, I am at least 25%*). Anyone with some good suggestions? If worst comes to worst, I'll just buy a North Stars sweatshirt since I've been meaning to get one of those anyways.

Ok, even if you're not from the Twin Cities and have some ideas for retail shops let me know.

I love my city of residence.

Alright, I have some pretty bad spyware on my computer now, nevermind how (porn).

Anyways, it's disguising itself as "Antivirus Vista on my toolbar and is constantly popping up messages about doing a free virus scan and shit. It's getting annoying...does anyone have a suggestion for a FREE way to get rid of this or antispyware programs?

I'm looking for a place to find news about political issues with a minimum of political spin.

For example, I'd like to find a good summary of the current health care debate in the US without hearing that Obama's plan will plunge us all into super-communism because he's a cyborg with Stalin's preserved brain and Hitler's mummified dick or that the health care plan will make the country a utopia with jetpacks for everyone because he's some crazy mix of the second coming of Jesus (now he loves the gays), the next Dali Lama and Flying Spaghetti Monster.

Similar to Racer-x I'd like to have someone explain this health care thing to me or point me to a source that does. My main questions:

I'm confused about the procedure that's taking place. The House is trying to pass the exact bill that passed the Senate earlier? Are they making changes? And if they are, doesn't the Senate have to pass it again? That doesn't seem likely with the new Massachusetts Senator, right? I just don't really understand what's happening overall.

What exactly does the bill do? If there's no public option, what's going to change? I'm assuming it gives the government more power to do... stuff, but what?

I get a headache trying to sift through the bullshit. I trust random fucking strangers on the internet to give me better information than politicians and pundits. That's probably more fucked up than anything.

Also posting this in the World Travel thread, but figured I'd try for a larger pool:
I'm looking to study abroad in Russia come August, and so need to apply for a visa. What's the deal with the Russian requirement for an HIV test, will any testing group do or does Russia only recognize certain organizations/types of tests?

I got my computer a few months ago, and it had Microsoft office already installed on it. Every time I would open up one of the office programs, a screen would pop up asking me to enter a 25-digit access/product code. I never remembered getting any paperwork about an access/product code, (hell, the damn computer didn't even come with a freakin' instruction manual) so I would just exit the box and start typing or whatever.
Now every time I try to open an MS office program, it still asks for the access code, but even when I "X" out of the box, I can't use anything!
What is this access/product code, and where can I find it or bypass it? I tried just typing in 25 random numbers, but that did no good.

Is your computer a Dell? Basically the software you have, Office, is being viewed as tied to the computer. (OEM, factory installed.)

So, according to Microsoft, YOU don't own it, your computer does. The software lives and dies with the machine. Say your PC crashes and you want to transfer the copy of Office you have on your broken computer to a new one. Microsoft will not let you do that without a product code because they want you to buy it again.

If you do have the product code and an installation disk, you have Open Licensing, which means you own the software and can put it on any machine.

If your computer is a Dell, call Dell's tech support (And start drinking because you're going to get India and need to be drunk to understand them.) and give them the Service Tag off the sticker on your machine. They will give you the product code to enter. If that doesn't work, let me know. I should have a product code around here somewhere.

And I know this sounds ridiculous, but this is exactly one of the ways Dell rips people off. I used to work there.

Spybot Search & Destroy (available at download.com) fixed one for me this week Malwarebytes didn't. I'd give them both a shot.

Some of the nastier spyware/adware programs actively search for the malwarebytes program files and mess with them so they won't be able to get rid of the spyware. "Internet Security 2010" is one that I know of. They do the same thing with Spybot and a few of the other popular ones. The only way I was able to get around it was to install malwarebytes again, then download the malwarebytes .exe file with a random file name (so that the malware couldn't find it) from this link: <a class="postlink" href="http://mbam.malwarebytes.org/program/random.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://mbam.malwarebytes.org/program/random.php</a>

    <a class="postlink" href="http://www.bleepingcomputer.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">www.bleepingcomputer.com</a> has a pretty good amount of information on removing specific spyware/malware programs

Because of this shit, I had to reformat my PC (the virus/spyware shit made it impossible to installed Malware Bytes)...

Long story short, I lost all my music but I still have it all on my iPod. Is there any way (free) to pull all the music off my iPod? Everything I've found online tries to make me buy some crap.

    Wikipedia does a good job explaining it all- <a class="postlink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Health_care_bill" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Health_care_bill</a>

More taxes, subjecting insurance companies to anti-trust laws, expanding Medicaid, etc.

Uncle Sam is getting bigger and, personally, I think Nancy Pelosi is an agenda-seeking cunt.

Next time, check out bleepingcomputer first. They have some utilities you can download and run that will close the parts of the malware that prevent you from installing those programs.

Ill post this here since you people are alrready on the subject and this gets much more traffic.

Could the virus still be disrupting things? It seems only to happen to files I open with .exe on them. I had deleted malwarebytes off of my computer to reintall it (since I have heard this needs to be done each time you get a malware virus) but again when I try and install it the .exe file won't open.

The time has come to upgrade cell phones. My fiance and I are looking into getting iPhones on a family plan.

We're going from plain jane cell phones to iPhones, which is a fairly substantial increase in the monthly phone bill. She and I both work jobs where we can't really talk on the phone, so we text pretty much all day. Also, we each use the internet a pretty good bit every day.

Are the iPhone and all the related expenses really worth it? I know I have to have the data plan, an otter box, and a few other accessories starting off. Also, I'm torn between the 8G and the 16G. The 32 is out of the question, as I don't need that kind of space. The 8G is $100 cheaper, which could buy a couple of accessories.

What do you iPhone people think?

I can't speak to the iPhone specific questions, as I'm a Blackberry user, but having a smart phone in general is absolutely worth it if you're not on a tight budget. I've had my Blackberry for over two years now. I never thought I "needed" one until I had it. The simple ability to have your email tied directly to your phone makes it worth it in my book. I'm no longer tied to a PC for communications. No matter what medium somebody tries to reach me on (email, SMS, Facebook, Twitter, etc.) it all comes to one place and I can respond through that medium via one device. When you add in all the other apps you can download to have a minicomputer right there in your pocket, it's absolutely worth it. Those things may sound like luxuries to someone who hasn't experienced them before, but once you have the capability, you'll wonder how you ever lived without them (similar to getting a cell phone in the first place.)

Obviously, everything is contingent on your budget, but if the extra money isn't going to kill you, I'd be surprised if you regretted moving to a smart phone.

Absolutely. I'm on my phone pretty much all day. If I'm laying on the couch and want to check something, I could go get my laptop, but I have my phone right there. Also, even when I'm on my laptop I find myself reaching for my phone, which is dumb so I stop myself, because a computer is easier to use, but the phone is so convenient. Definitely worth it.

What the hell is an otter box? Also, what accessories are you buying? I've had mine since May with no case or anything and I don't have so much as a scratch on it. If you are responsible with things, you don't need any accessories. At least not a protective one.
