My wife thinks I have a drinking problem. I average 24 beers a week, give or take a few. No liquor or shots.

I know the PC definition is not "how much" but the consequences. Unfortunately, this is entirely too vague and I have no consequences except maybe a liver that's slowly dying.

You guys are more qualified than most, so have at it. How much is too much?

For the musicians out there, I know what he's talking about. Play EEE CDC. That's the tune he's looking for. I just can't remember the name.

That depends if the 24 beers is made up of one per night M-Th, then 20 on Friday night. Then, you're a binge drinker, which is a health problem once you've left your college days behind. If that 24 beers is made of 3-4 per night, every night, then you need to know if you're facing dependency. That's easy enough - just don't drink a single drop of beer or anything for 2 weeks straight. If you go the whole time without justifying "just one" because it was a long day at work, or "to take the edge off" or whatever, you're probably fine.

I hope you drink light beer, though, because 24 beers a week is calories you don't need.

I'm sure there are folks that are FAR more qualified to chime in on this, though. Just my two cents.

I have no idea how I'm going to cover rent for July. I just found I didn't get any of the summer research positions I applied for. Anyone know of anyone hiring for anything in DC? Preferably something related to Clinical Psychology, but more preferably something that will pay money?

I've got a bit of a disagreement going on here, and ACTUALLY NEED A COP! I don't believe I could be a cop because of a couple factors.

Would someone who's smoked marijuana on occasions and has a record of crimes that were dismissed, be considered for a position on any respectable police force? I'm saying there's a lie detector to sign up and they ask if you've smoked in the last three years, and a records a record.

    Thanks for the help.

    Depends.

If you're honest about it, show that you now regret it, and can convince them that you will not do so in the future, some departments will overlook it. It all depends on circumstances. Somebody that's trying to join the academy at 20 years old who smoked pot when 17 or 18 is a lot different than somebody wanting to be a cop at 24 who smoked it a year ago. It also depends how desperate the department is for new cops. Police departments are actually hit hard when the economy starts to pick up. There are a lot of people with business/engineering/etc degrees that lost their jobs a little while back, and a lot of them fall into police jobs because their degrees put them in the front of the line at large departments. When the economy picks back up, they leave and go back to higher paying jobs they were doing before. At least this is what my buddy at Ft Worth PD told me.

disclaimer: I'm not a cop. A lot of my friends are cops, I used to work with cops daily, my brother is busy applying for jobs as a cop. I know a little bit about it.

Apparently me and The Fiance are fucking morons, but I'm having a problem with the TV she bought about 6 months ago.

The problem (and I don't know how it started, but it wasn't always like this) is that when we watch MLB games on the MLB channel, in HD, they aren't in HD... Which while is not a huge pain in the ass, ,,,, the entire picture is fuzzy and looks worse than watching a game in 1974 on my dads 13 inch black and white. Even worse yet, the screen shot has been cropped and it looks like its over-zoomed. Because its over-zoomed you also can't see the pitch counts, total outs, what inning or the score at the top during the game because its been cropped out. Same thing for the scroll bars at the bottom of the picture.
I haven't had a single problem with any other channels, nor, any games that are on Fox, or ESPN... Which is puzzling. It's just games on MLB..

I've tried fucking with the "Zoom" Function on the remote, but that doesn't work. There are 4 modes... we view the TV in "Normal" mode (which is the one that's fucked up), as the other 3 options are "Wide", "Zoom", and "Cinema", and none of them fix the problem. I've also fucked with the picture selection in the menu, and that only increases/decreases the quality of the image rather than getting it the right size.

Anybody have this problem before? Should I be recording or watching the games in 720 rather than 1080i?
I'd like to tell you that we still have the owners manual, but I can't find the motherfucker. So I've turned to you good people of the internet.

If you're running through a cable box, have you checked the zoom settings on that? At least with my set up, the TV has zoom features but the cable box does also. For certain stations, for whatever reason, I have to sometimes adjust the zoom through the cable box to get the picture to look right.

The hiring requirements for my former department was no weed in the last 24 months. Don't lie about it, and like slippingaway said, the circumstances around your substance use and if you're genuinely remorseful play a role...but it also depends on the type of crimes too. If it's domestic violence or something like that, you might be screwed.

The polygraph test is quite personal as well. They ask if you have ever contemplated suicide, attempted suicide, how often you drink, what's the worst crime you've done, were you caught, etc.

Just be honest. If the test administer suspects you're attempting to game the polygraph test, you fail anyways.

So last night, I called it an early night. About 10PM, I walked my dog, put him up and was asleep by 10:30. About 4:30AM, I awoke as I typically do to slam so water and use the rest room, but last night I had an achy feeling on the ball of the my right foot (you know how your heal feels when the middle of your foot cramps up? Like that, not too painful). I chalked it off to a cramp, but as soon as I put weight on my foot I almost buckled in pain.

The lower outside portion of my ankle literally felt as though I had sprained it, but that is impossible. It's quite hard to walk, and certain axial movements are nothing less than excruciating. At rest, there is the slightest amount of discomfort.

Now, my question: does this sound like gout to any of you? I looked up the symptoms and it seems as though the primary ones (toe, swelling, inflammation etc.) do not apply. If it persists, I will likely go to the doctor tomorrow, but wanted to see if any one has had an experience like this.

I've recently started taking a liking to American right wing folk music. I'm thinking old confederate songs as well as more modern stuff such as Toby Keith, but nothing racist.

I'm a left wing socialist myself, but for some reason the music is pretty fun to listen to. Any idea's would be appreciated, cheers.

I've got a camera issue. I got a Nikon S220 back in January (wanted a simple, not very expensive camera) and it got damaged on a road trip awhile ago. Somehow the screen got cracked while sitting in my jeans pocket and I don't know how, but anyways it happened. The battery cover also stopped working. I sent it into Nikon for a repair estimate and it would be $87 from them.

So here's the deal. I could get a refurbished one (to factory specs) for $60 that includes a battery, charger, etc. I still have the charger and battery from the old one. 90 day warranty on the refurbished camera. I'm considering going with the refurbished camera. Good idea?

Hey guys I have a problem and can't find any info anywhere else so I'm turning to you.

I bought a humidifier last winter and it worked great, I had it on every night and it never bothered me at all. Now that it's summer it still gets dry sometimes so I've had it on once a week for about three weeks. Every time I sleep with it on I wake up feeling like I've been punched in the chest. I can't breath very well and feel dizzy even fluish.

Does anyone have any idea what could be going on? I cleaned all the minerals out of it once or twice, but beyond that have done nothing different. What the hell is going on??

Without seeing the humidifier, my first guess would be that either there's a filter on it or some other part inside that is growing some kind of mold. Your symptoms sound a lot like a reaction to airborne mold spores.

I have no idea where to post this, so correct me if this is the wrong place. The topic isn't worth its own thread, but I also don't really need help with anything, I just need some outside opinions on the subject of tipping.

Do you tip at a restaurant (or any such place) where you don't actually sit down for service, yet there is a tip jar or line on the credit card receipt for a tip? I go to a variety of burrito bars, sushi places, Subway, etc. where I just order at the counter then carry out my food. In the past I've always tipped because I figured if there was a line for the tip on the receipt I was supposed to tip, and I felt bad if I didn't. I've been told by a handful of people that this is stupid, and there's no reason to tip in that situation. Well last night I went to a taco shop (not the regular place I go to), and I didn't leave a tip. The chick out the counter became slightly, yet noticably, offended (try being hot next time, bitch). What the hell is the social norm here?

There's no service to judge on, because they just make the food like I'm paying them to do, then hand me a bag. I'll always tip at the 2 regular places I go to, because I've gotten to know the staff well, and they hook me up big time. But if I'm going to a completely random place, I'm not sure what to do. Opinions, advice?

As a general rule I only tip at restaurants where I sit down, a waiter takes my order, and the food is served to me. I'm about 50/50 on buffets because I have to go and get my own food. If the waiter does a good job about keeping my table clear, and my drinks full I'll usually tip at buffets.

I agree. I usually tip 15-20% or more at a sitdown restaurant and maybe like 10% or $1/person at a buffet. Same thing with delivery. Most places charge you now for delivery, so pretty soon, between tax, tip and delivery fee, that $10 pizza is $17-$20. Im sorry, and I know it says right on the menu that delivery charge does not go to the driver, but it's still coming out of my pocket.

At a sandwich or taco place, unless I have a really big or complicated order, I will throw the coins in the tip jar, but that's about it. If you ask for something special, or they let you cut in line, then I would throw in $1 or 2.

I might be able to add something to this. I worked at a BBQ/Deli/Pizza place one summer where you walked up to the counter and ordered your food, pay right there, and sit down. I gave you a cup to fill your own drink which you would refill if necessary. I was the only person working this place, so I had to prep the food, cook it, serve it, tend to your requests, and clean up after you. The only thing that the customer did was order and get their own drinks (alcoholic one's were a little different obviously). I never expected anyone to leave a tip because I made a normal hourly wage. So usually in a sit-down place, you tip the wait staff for bringing you your food, refilling your drinks, and cleaning up after you. Take away the drink thing and add cooking the food, and all bets go out the window. It seemed like these people only tip if their drinks are filled for them. I maybe walked away with $10 in tips for a full 12 hour day of work, 6 days a week. It blew to know that people are cheap when it comes to stuff like this. I guess when you pay upfront and filled your own drinks, you don't need to tip. There were always those awesome people who appreciated my service and would tip for the service they received. *as a side note, I messed up only two orders in the entire 4 months of working there, one was a pizza that the oven kinda destroyed, the other was a massive fucking BBQ meal that totaled like $150...no tip obviously...granted I was THE ONLY ONE working there.

In my opinion, if someone puts the time (read: not fast food) into making your food, then they deserve a little something extra. Plus if you go there often and tip them, they'll remember you and make it with more stuff next time...that's what I used to do at least. Also, it's just a dollar, but it means that the customer appreciates your time and effort.
