Not sure if anyone here knows anything about health insurance, but I'm in a bit of a bind. Sorry in advance if this is complicated. In my last year of graduate school, my folks and I believed that I could remain on their insurance (Humana) only until December (so only for the first semester). As my school required students to have health insurance for the entire year, I ended up having to buy the school's insurance (Anthem) for the entire year (they wouldn't let me buy it for just one semester). Before I left for school, I had some knee issues that required an MRI and had a bunch of doctors' appointments. For this entire period, I just used my Humana insurance, figuring I'd start using Anthem the next semester. It turned out that I didn't get kicked off my parent's insurance and, as their insurance covered more, they played it safe and paid to keep me on until summer. Everything was fine until two months ago, when I received a notice that Humana was asking for their money back from some of the doctors that I visited in August. When I called to find out why, they said that they were my secondary insurance. I was confused, as we were paying the same amount for "secondary" insurance as for "primary" insurance. Still, I just had all of the doctors that contacted me refile the claims with Anthem. Today, I got a letter from one of the doctors saying that Anthem refused to pay as the new claim was over 6 months after the appointment. Since Humana took 9 months to ask for their money back, I had no way of resubmitting claims to Anthem in time. Now, Humana is going back and asking for refunds from all my doctors appointments over the past year and, since the majority of them were 9-12 months ago, there is no way to get Anthem to accept the claims. I'm worried that soon Humana is going to ask for a refund on the MRI and some other prescriptions, probably totaling at least a couple thousand dollars. I'm furious because we paid a ton of money for me to have health insurance, only to have me essentially have to pay for the entire year out of pocket. I'm pretty healthy so I know that this could have been worse, and I also know it is probably my fault, but does anyone know anything I can do? I'm appealing the claims refusals from Humana, but I'm not very optimistic. Anyone have any advice?
Gah! I should start tipping y'all for all of the guidance you've given me lately but I have one more question to ask. I was sitting here jamming to Coheed on Youtube and realized I was being a bit too loud. I plugged a cheap-ass set of earbuds into my tower and now I'm not getting any sound anywhere. Wait. I take that back. I am getting that loud silence sound in my earbuds if that makes sense. I remember having this problem a long time ago and I fixed it somehow by changing some setting or other but I don't remember which one. I have the little speaker bar that clips to the bottom of my flat-screen monitor (everything is Dell brand, BTW), and have, I think, the 5.1 speakers: 4 speakers and a subwoofer? What did I do and how do I fix it? Thanks!
Nebber mind. I finally fixed it, temporarily at least. Stupid PC. I still haven't resolved the (WAY) previously posted power problem but it probably has some slightly ridiculous (or ridiculously slight) easy fix that I haven't figured out yet. Hubby did say something about unplugging the cordless Logitech mouse before trying to turn the tower back on. Does that make any sense? It actually kind of worked! Is there some kind of Logitech configuration settings trick I need to try? I mean if you're bored and feel like solving some superficial computer problem for some boring fellow board member, then I welcome your analysis.
So I'm heading to Portland in early November and intend to see a couple of Blazers games at the Rose Garden (OKC and Toronto are visiting while I'm in town). I've got a budget of up to $100ish per ticket and I'm going on my own - any tips for a) where's a good spot to sit and b) is it worth buying them on StubHub well in advance or just picking them up a week out or at the gate? I've read that there's "no bad seats" at the arena but I thought it can't hurt to ask. Oh, and if any locals want to grab a beer with an Aussie idiot between November 2 and November 7, drop me a line. Cheers guys.
I have a flock of Canada geese that have taken up residence on the front lawn of my business. The amount of goose shit all over my driveway is ridiculous. I would appreciate any suggestions as to how to get rid of these nuisances. Since this place is loaded with Canadians I figure someone can help me!
The deer and rabbit line of this product works well... I've never used the goose stuff, but might be worth a shot. http://www.liquidfence.com/duck-turkey- ... llent.html
When I worked at a golf course we got a dog to get rid of them. I've also heard swans are a possibility. But I'm guessing since you work in an office building neither of these are options.
I lost my license for a DUI in January and get it back on Wednesday. The problem is my parents' car insurance provider dropped me for the DUI and we couldn't get a quote for new insurance while my license was suspended. I'm sure with the amount of drinking that goes on here, someone has to have DUI experience. Does anyone have recommendations for car insurance when you've had a DUI? How much will the DUI raise my rates? I'm 20 year old male in NJ (21 in a month) if any of that info is relevant (I know the state is, I'm guessing my age is as well). Thanks in advance
I got a DUI a few years ago. This is just one guy's anecdotal evidence, so grain of salt. My insurance I had before the DUI was gonna charge me a crazy high rate so I went with Progressive. They still wanted a fairly high rate for full coverage, but I owned the car and switched to liability coverage for about $30 or $40 a month. If I remember right, full coverage was close to $200 a month. I was in college and could never afford that at the time. Also, they're gonna charge you an SR-22 fee and you'll have to fill out a form. I think that's something like 20 or 30 bucks a year. Before this, my parents paid my insurance so I'm not sure how much it went up. Keep in mind that I'm in ND and last I heard we have the lowest car insurance rates in the country. You'll probably be paying quite a bit more than me. And maybe the laws are different so your paperwork/fees could be different as well. But I know a few people who switched to Progressive after getting a DUI because it was the cheapest option. Check out their website and get a quote, it's fairly simple and will give you a pretty good idea of what you'll have to pay. I think I had higher rates because of the DUI for either 3 or 5 years, so this will be with you for a while.
*Posting in 2 threads. Help please! My dumbass, stubborn daughter is a vegetarian and super-poor. She is barely eating and certainly not fueling properly. She has recently lost 20 lbs. and is generally unhealthy physically and mentally. I believe she is suffering from malnutrition. She doesn't live at home and won't take money from me. Now to the point..... I'm going to make meals and freeze them for her. She can't refuse that (I hope). I am clueless here and need some guidance. I want the meals to be very high nutritionally, not too complicated and freezable. I have never cooked with beans and lentils, so I don't even know how to handle them. The internet is just too vast for me to navigate. Any recipes, cooking tips or a specific site would be very helpful. I'm a decent cook who is addicted to the food network, so I'm familiar with most terms and techniques. The kid likes most everything, but is not a fan of corn and doesn't like a lot of heat. Thanks!
I'm having problems with a contractor, and it's getting closer to going to court, so wondering how strong is my case. Here are some details. I built a house 3 years ago, and hired a local company to put in the alarm system, sound system and other misc electronics. After a few months, and the work being semi completed, the visits became more and more sparse, and my calls would go unreturned. When they stopped coming, I called a few times and spoke to different employees to get a partial invoice for the work completed so that I could move on. Those calls were never returned. They called me out of the blue last month, and asked for payment. The law for statute of limitation was 6 years when the work was done, and it's grand fathered in, even if the new law is 2 years. So, that is not an option. During that call, the AR guy offered to sell me everything at cost (labour and material), and my reply was that he should send me that invoice, and I would seriously consider it, as long as it was fair and reasonable. They sent me an invoice for the total quoted amount, and when I replied that this was not what he promised, the president of the company replied that his employee did not have authority to make such an offer. I was waiting for an offer, am expecting to be charged roughly 75%. Was thinking of sending an offer for 50% of the total bill. But, what are my options, and is the offer to sell it at cost worth anything at this time? I never did expressively accept that offer, which I think screws me. Also, we don't have small claims court in my jurisdiction any more, nor do I want to go to court over this. It's only $7000, but still too much for me to just write a cheque out. Plus, this is starting to piss me off, since they tried to blame me a few times for taking advantage of a good and honest company.
It's 3 years. When you buy the insurance your company sends the SR-22 to the DMV for you. That stays on record for the time period above. If you let your policy lapse, they then send an SR-26 which informs the DMV what's happened, then the DMV will suspend your license. If you don't do as they say and want to drive you're screwed if you get pulled over for anything. As for the rates, they vary far too much from, different state laws, rules and rates, to type of car, the coverage and the specs of the driver (as you said, age, area you live and so on) for anyone to tell you what it will be unless they are, you basically. Progressive is one of the companies that cater to this type of driving activity so generally speaking their rates are a better fit. The only way you are going to know what it is is to call or go online and poke around on different companies websites for quotes. Try Esurance too. Erin and Flo. Insurance Bitches, like me.
Can anyone direct me to a tutorial somewhere that will help me set up a home network for me and my wife's laptops? She is running Vista Basic and I am running Windows 7. The first couple hits from Google were pretty outdated...
I was going to post this in the Alcohol thread but I didn't want to clutter things up with my nonsense. Anyways, I want to experiment with making new drinks. The idea of working as a bartender for awhile seems pretty rad and if I could hone my boozing skillz while in college it would be win-win. Any recommended drinks to start off with/instructional websites/books I should be reading? A big thanks in advance!
The only site I've ever needed to use is this: http://www.mixologyguide.com/ Read enough recipes and you'll start to get a good idea of what things go well together (even when it seems like they wouldn't). The best route, of course (though the more expensive), is buying different kinds of alcohol and mixers. Just look on the Mixology Guide to pick out a few liquors and good mixers that'll give you a wide range of mixing possibilities, then experiment like a motherfucker. Tasting is the best way to learn. Oh, and girls tend to love trying new cocktail concoctions. If you have decent taste, invite a few over and get their opinions and advice. They'll love you for it, and you'll probably get some unique recipes of your own that friends will ask you to mix on a regular basis.
Can anyone name some businesses (preferably web based) that do a lot of contract/freelance work? Or others that require workers to fill 1099 forms (basically independent contractors)? Thanks.
Advertising sales is full of 1099ers. A lot of publishers hire independent sales contractors to reduce their overhead. I both hired them when I was a publisher, and was a 1099er myself. What specifics are you looking for?
