I am a huge advocate of going as deep as you can. Full range of motion should be employed on all lifts as often as possible in my opinion. I find it is harder on my knees if I stop half way down than if I just sink slowly down into the hole until there is no more down to go.

You get awesome recruitment in your glutes and quads coming out of a deep squat. My ass is like 2 basketballs glued to each other.

I guess this is a fine area to ask as we're on the topic of squats:

I'm trying to get to the point where I can do a pistol correctly. It's tough- I keep losing my balance when I get to a certain point on the down (I think this has a lot to do with my outstretched leg, I've been working on keeping it tight and straight but it's pretty tough. It's also hard to maintain balance once I get down, I've read that when you first start holding a weight in your hands helps, but would it become too much of a crutch? Is more I can do than just continue to try over and over again?

I posted this in the tech forum, but there might be someone that doesn't read that part of the board that can help me out.

Forewarning: I'm not the best with computers.

I got a Sony Vaio laptop (VGN-NW130J if that matters) about a year ago. I updated it to Win7 right when I got it.

It came with a built in Motion Eye camera. I have never used this camera before. A couple of my friends are moving away and want to keep in touch with skype, so I thought I would set up my skype account and finally be able to use the camera. I did so, and skype doesn't find/recognize a camera for my computer. So I did some searching and all I could find people saying about getting the camera to work was having Arcsoft WebCam Companion. So I got that from the Sony website, opened it, and it also says it can't find a camera.

Then I searched through my device manager and control panel and can't find anything to do with a camera.

Has anyone had this problem? Is there an easy fix for it that doesn't require certain start up discs that I probably don't have anymore?

I have a legal question, specifically concerning conflict-of-interest with regards to lawyers. Jurisdiction is Quebec, Canada.

My immediate neighbour here on the lake is going through a nasty divorce. The divorce has been going on for a few years with his ex-wife suing him for everything. The ex-wife's first lawyer dropped her as a client (just couldn't deal with her anymore) so she had to get another lawyer. What my neighbour recently discovered is that her second lawyer is the same lawyer that the municipality we live in has on retainer. The municipality isn't big enough to have a lawyer on staff full-time so obviously this lawyer has to have other clients; it just seems a bit muddled that the lawyer who might square off with you in court on matters related to the municipality (bylaws, property taxes, etc) is the same lawyer who's representing your ex-wife in a bitter divorce. Put it another, does this lawyer not have a bias against my neighbour when it comes to representing the interests of the municipality when it involves my neighbour?

To summarize, the ex-wife's divorce lawyer is the same lawyer that the municipality uses; the municipality my neighbour lives in. Is this lawyer in a conflict-of-interest position?

My guess is its a driver issue, have you looked into whether you have the current drivers for the camera, if any at all?? Feel free to PM if you need further help.

Yeah sounds like a driver issue. Since it's built in just go to Sony's website and find the drivers page for your model laptop. There should be one listed that will be for the camera. Make sure you choose Win7 for the OS since they'll probably have different driver versions. After you download just run it and I'm guessing that'll fix your problem.

Short, broad answer: no, not necessarily. It may be a different matter if there was a current dispute between your guy and the municipality, for example.

If he wanted to be nasty, and I certainly wouldn't advocate that, and get the lawyer to recuse himself; something like the following would work (dependent on whether your guy AND his wife own their house). Start some shit/action with the municipality. Nothing big, you don't want big costs or to actually have to do anything, but something low level this lawyer will need to at least open a file for. Be careful they don't have a panel of lawyers, or this won't work.

If he has to open a file for X Municipality against Guy and Wife, he'll be stuffed. Rather than anger his big client, he'll drop her like a hot potato.

Any recommendations on over the counter uppers? I got a pretty high tolerance to caffeine, but never go to the medicine aisle. Adderol is what I need, but don't fool with the stuff I'd have to getting it.

You might look at some of the nootropics that are available. Both piracetam and aniracetam are readily available on the internet. By themselves they are supposed to aid concentration and memory. They also potentiate caffeine so you'll get more of a kick. They are also supposed to lower your alcohol tolerance some so it's cheaper to get drunk which I think we can all appreciate.

If you're looking for something to help keep you awake, you should look at modafinil. It's referred to as a wakefulness promoting agent. You don't get the high like most stimulants but it'll let you stay awake for long periods of time. In the US modafinil is a prescription drug but it's pretty easy to find on the internet and it's not as tightly controlled as Adderall.

Check out smartpowders.com as a source for piracetam and aniracetam. I've ordered some stuff from them and I got what I ordered.

A couple of hours ago, I received a rather annoying letter giving me 22 hours (not really 24 hours) that every single tenant in my apartment will be evicted by 4:30 pm tomorrow. Apparently, the city fire department deems the building unsafe.

With such an extraordinarily small amount of notification, is this even legal? (I don't know when the Fire Department informed the hotel management. According to management, only an hour or two before they sent out the notice)

Also, considering I just had a major surgery last week, and can't lift heavy things, can I phone the fire department and tell them that I can't move? Anyone with legal experience feel free to chime in.

I'm thinking about switching my car insurance to Geico. Does anyone have any horror/success stories I should know about? I'm saving an unbelievable amount of money, so I'm a little wary.

    Thanks in advance!

I have nothing but good things to say about Geico. I've bundled my car insurance, my girlfriend's car insurance, and my condo insurance. Before I did that, when I only had an auto policy, they automatically reduced my premium after the first year for having no accidents, tickets, etc. They also came in hundreds of dollars lower than any other company with identical coverage. With the bundle I have now, I was able to get a great multi-line/multi-car discount and my insurance is (in my opinion) inexpensive while still providing great coverage.

Every time I've had to call them to adjust something or even just ask a question, a person picked up right away; no automated system to dial through. Every person I've dealt with has been polite and has solved any issue or made any change quickly and accurately with no fuss. When they had to deal with the bank to give proof of adequate coverage on my condo, even the bank commented that they rarely deal with people as accommodating and knowledgeable.

I'm sure that there's someone out there with a horror story, but I love working with them.

    Edit:
As far as claims are concerned, the only thing I've had to do was replace a cracked windshield. For that, I set up everything online and a local auto glass company came out the next day and replaced it in my office parking lot. I've got a $0 glass deductible, so it was super easy.

Much like banks everyone has something bad to say about some sort of experience with at least one company. You simply cannot please everyone all the time.

When my car was totaled back in April the other carrier was GEICO. I had to work with them through the process. At the very beginning they were great, quick, liability was established within hours (other party admitted fault) and I was in a rental car by 2pm the day after the accident (occurred at about 4pm), less than 24 hours.

The next contact I had was with my adjuster who sucked. He promised calls and failed to make them, he was generally unfriendly and I felt he was almost reading off a script. When he called me with the settlement amount things turned even more sour as did his attitude when I expressed that the offer wouldn't fly.

Now granted he knew I was an agent but that shouldn't matter. What should matter is the customer service provided should be the same for anyone.

I contacted his supervisor who I instantly liked and felt he actually gave a shit. Through no fault of his own it took 33 days to settle with me. They ended up dropping over $800 on my rental alone. The day we agreed he delivered the check within 3 hours and it was finally over. The next day I wrote a very nice email to his boss (I feel feedback, good or bad is important) because I felt he'd gone above and beyond.

Saving money is important but customer service is key. Your agent is someone you turn to in times of trauma, they see you at your worst. Knowing how to do their job, making the client feel not only that you care but that you have a certain sense of urgency to come to their aide is equally as important as savings.

    Any legal advice appreciated:

I was back visiting a friend who is in graduate school this past weekend. We were at his little brother's apartment, pregaming before we went to the bar. My other friend called, looking for somewhere to park, so I mindlessly walked out into the street with a cup of beer and pointed to a spot on the street where they could park. I happened to do so right as a cop car was pulling up.

I was courteous, respectful, and nice to the cops. I explained to them that I am 24 years old, was completely sober (it was my first beer of the night) have nothing on my record - drinking related or otherwise - was staying at this apt, I completely realize I did something wrong, and was simply showing my friend where they could park. They wrote me the ticket for public intox anyway (civil infraction).

I called the station today, and the lady informed me it's a $225 fine. I realize I did something wrong, broke the law, and am a complete dumbass for walking in the street with a beer. However, I thought there might be some way to get the fine reduced or wiped off. For anyone either with experience in a similar situation, or law experience, is there anything I can/should do to lessen the fine/punishment?

I figure I should at least show up in court with the hopes that the cop doesn't. Is there anything else that would help or hinder my argument? Like I said, I've never been to court for drinking or other issues, so have no clue how to handle it. I planned on (obviously) being courteous and respectful, and explaining the same thing to the judge - I was sober, realize I did something wrong, but have NOTHING on my record. If there are any other points I should make, etc... I would appreciate the help.

If you want to call me a dumbass because there's basically nothing I can do to reduce the fine, that's ok too. I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. Thanks guys

That's all you need to know. Yes, it's draconian in the circumstances. But that's the law. Pay up, learn your lesson.

Id at least talk to the judge and/or prosecutor about the situation and see if they are willing to work with you on reducing or wiping it off your record. I had a speeding ticket knocked down to a non moving violation doing this. I had a 35 dollar parking ticket (parked over a sidewalk) completely dismissed because I chatted up the prosecutor's assistant who talked him into dismissing it for me (he was running late because he was involved in a capital murder case that day).

It also was a shock to see how malleable laws are when you have a well known lawyer who is personable to everyone in the court room. They'll let shit slide all the time.

Along the same lines, I know a few people who were able to talk their way into reducing the fine by doing some community service. You seem to already have the respectful, apologetic attitude, but just so you know, people in law enforcement LOVE taking pompous over-educated youngsters down a peg or two and humiliate them. Whatever you do don't bring up stuff like "I'm well educated" or anything like that. Just be courteous and respectful.

I'm posting this here because I thought it might get a few more views than the post in the tech forum.

Ok, so I bought my wife a new Macbook Pro and I was wondering if there is a way to tether my iPhone to it in order to connect to the internet. I don't have WIFI in the building that our restaurant is in, but I do have good reception(full bars) for the phone.

I'm sorry if this is a juvenile question but I'm just this side of computer illiterate. To make things worse, this is the first Mac we have ever owned(outside of an iPhone and iPods) so I'm not at all familiar with Apple's operating system.

    Thanks in advance.
