Ah, thanks for the help. I see, that's cool, I only need to charge a small digital camera, so it should be fine.

Any info on the ID situation? I know here in England we don't accept international driving licences.

I traveled through the USA last year (Cali, Vegas, Chicago, Nashville), and my Australian drivers lisence was accepted everywhere. The first few nights I carried around colour copies of my passport, but it was not necessary. YMMV obviously.

I'm doing a ski trip to Steamboat Springs in Mid December. I was wondering if anyone knows how to get discount lift tickets? We can't tie it to our lodging because I'm using hotel points to pay for it. We will be there for four days. Half of which will enter into the "Holiday" season. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The deals aren't available yet, hopefully they will be as your trip gets closer, but I use liftopia. They're usually noticeably cheaper than the resort even if you buy tickets on there the day before you go. If you can get them ahead of time they can be over half off. Of course if you by them that far ahead you're subjecting yourself to the risk of shitty weather and tying yourself down to one mountain, so take that into consideration.

I received a call from a debt collector regarding an invoice for work that was done on my house almost 3 years ago. It falls within the statute of limitation, so that argument is out the window. However, the work was never completed to satisfactory level, and a few items were not delivered at all.

How do I fight this? I don't want to pay the full amount, and was actually in the process of negotiating with the company to settle it. And, it's also fairly important that this does not pop up on my credit report, as I have fairly good credit and would hate to ruin it for this.

How much does a collection agency usually pay for debt? Is there an industry standard? I was thinking of offering 30% or 35%, but am thinking they'd laugh at me if I don't make a good case for it.

I need some help from someone who can provide me in the right direction ( this is kind of like a tech issue)

I want to create some sort of form that different employees can open and access and request things from my department. Like I am thinking that they can all access on their own computer and just hit submit/save and that it automatically gets transmitted to a registry that can then be printed off.

I looked into just using an excel tracking sheet and having it as a shared workbook but that would cause more problems than it should as people get more access to things.

I used to use something not so similar with microsoft access. and I know you can have things more secure with that, but for the life of me don't know how to go about figuring out what I would need to do in access.

any help/direction is greatly appreciated, thanks

Anybody know anything about fixing holes in poured concrete foundations?

On the eve of my brand-new drywall getting finished, the carpenter discovered a place behind the old drywall that is still leaking. I pulled off a 2x4 panel, pulled away the insulation and vapour barrier, and discovered what appear to be three filled holes:

The filling is almost like grout - very hard and doesn't easily chip away. However, judging from the stains running down the wall, this is where it's coming from.

Question is: how do I fix it, cheap? I will not excavate, and I'd like very much to only remove this portion of the drywall. I suspect at some point that a different water service came in to the house, since this is directly above my present water meter.

Thoughts and suggestions are most appreciated.

Depending on your level of competency, this may or may not be so difficult, from your phrasing of the question, I'd guesstimate your around the same level as me when it comes to Access. I did something like this back in '07 and it was a pain in the ass, because of my relative inexperience.

Essentially you can use Access to create a database and a form that employees would submit, but the issue you really run into is multiple people opening the database at the same time, so you would need to split the database into a front end and back end database. On top of that, depending on how complicated the form is and the data being collected, you'd need to maintain and clean the database.

Seriously dude, it's a headache and a half for folks who just tinker in IT stuff. For example, I can't write visual basic code, but I can reverse engineer someone else's visual basic code to do what I need it to do. I don't really understand the language, but I know if I replace "x" with "y" the code will work for my particular database. Maybe you are a bit more experienced then I am, but my advice is to simply contract out for an IT guy to do it.

Can someone please give me a very short summary of what happens in the last Dan Brown book the Lost Symbol. Google yielded nothing. I was staying at a Bed & Breakfast over the weekend and a copy was in the study of the hotel, out of pure interest I read about a third of it there. It was shit enough that I have no interest in buying a copy and finishing; however would like to know a quick summary if anyone has read it and would be so kind.

Google docs? You can pick and choose who has access to what is shared.

My brother is getting married in 3 weeks, and I am best man, therefore I have to make a speech. It's a slightly bigger deal because I'm the only one giving a speech (the wedding is in England, but it's traditionally Polish so only the best man gives a speech).

Some context: My niece (his daughter...) is 4 months old and terminally ill (literally less than a year to live), the reason I'm telling you this, is that I'd like to know whether you think I should include anything about her in the speech, I realize you're meant to inject emotion, humour etc, but I don't know how far to go, or whether to make it just about him and the bride without bringing up something so morbid. But I feel like I should at least mention something.

I like to consider myself an OK writer, but writing a speech... it's fucking hard. I'm finding it so difficult to start, I want to be funny but not cliche. Want to be concise but not pussy out quickly. I've seen some internet templates, and they all seem pretty shit, so I was wondering if anyone could give me a bit of help or a structure that has actually gone down well, that you've wrote.

At least 35 people there are 100% Polish and do not understand English, I was thinking about saying something like "I'd be more nervous, but at half of you won't understand a word I'm saying...", but maybe funnier. Does that suck? I've lost all perspective.

    HELP!!!

    Thank you!

P.S. I'm not actually nervous about public speaking or standing up in front of a lot of people, just want to deliver a memorable speech without looking like a dick.

So five years ago I was somewhat interested in road cycling. I was really proud of my bike. I had bought it from a guy in france who had recieved it from a tour rider in the 2002 tour for team Lotto. Aluminum, Shimano Dura Ace components, carbon seatpost and fork, probably a bit poser for a new rider, but it was light and I loved it. At the time I was 6'3 250 lbs.

... so it's been a good five years since i've been on that and I've ramped up to around 320 lbs. Woops. But I'm looking to change that - part of which will be commuting to work at least once a week (a distance of 17-ish kilometres)
The problem is I'm really worried if I hop right back on my old GT its 17 lbs of bike is not going to appreciate my weight.

What should I do / look for?
I've heard a few suggestions that 36+ spoke wheels are a must, but beyond that I don't know where to go.
I'd actually not mind buying a new, cheaper bike (because who wants to park a $2500 bike in front of their office anyway) but evne then I don't know what would be good for me especially considering my weight. I'd prefer to stick with the narrow tires crowd, and I don't like the super upright position of most hybrids (I have a hybrid right now as well that I hate and am going to garage-sale). I just want something I can ride similarly to a road bike and not have collapse under me or have me have to replace components monthly due to the strain.

Aside: I'm quite fond of Specialized bikes as I'm quite close with a dealer of them, so if you know of a Specialized that sounds right for me, awesome.

Just an addition to the previous post (i've passed the edit window unfortunatly) - would I be able to swap a component or two and be in safe-riding shape? like would a more durable set of wheels be all I need to be on my way?

    I need some Itunes help.

A few months ago our friend "cleaned" our computer and backed up all of our files onto a portable hard drive. When we opened Itunes after this, Mr. Pink's Ipod synced up just fine. Mine didn't and when I synced it, I lost all of the songs on my shuffle. Shut up, I just want music and I'm cheap!

I went about rebuilding my song list and realized I'm missing some of the songs I bought. I tried to export our old library and import our old playlist but the songs were not on there. I checked our backup hard drive and nada. Fine, I go to buy the songs again. Itunes says I've already purchased them and if I can't find them, check the purchased tab or "available downloads." Nothing there.

Okay, so, where the hell are the files if I've bought them, Itunes knows I did...and I can't friggin' find them?

    Thanks!

The top heating element in my oven recently broke/burst, which is now resulting in sparks flying everywhere as soon as it starts heating up. My room mate is adamant that, since the top element is the broiler and only the bottom one is important for regular cooking, it won't be a difference if the top one is broken.

That just does not sound right to me. I can't imagine something like an oven being totally fine, even while it's sparking everywhere. Can someone confirm which one of us is an idiot? I want to cook some damn food.

Your roommate is right. Besides, sparks just add flavor.

Any electrical device that is sparking is not a good sign, regardless of whether or not it can still accomplish the task of cooking your food. I'd recommend getting it replaced, or at the absolute, very least, getting someone to come in and figure out how to disconnect whatever is sparking (if that's even possible) so that the next time you leave and your roommate decides he wants some Mama Celeste, your place isn't a pile of ashes when you get back.

Calling all econ and poli sci people.

What is the theory that states that no matter how a scarce resource is allocated, it will still wind up back in the hands of whoever values it the most? I want to say rational-choice theory, but I don't think that's right.

And no, I'm not a failing econ student. I took a class a while ago and wanted to reference something from it, but forget what it's called.

Neither of you is an idiot. Ovens used to be completely separate like your roommate says; the top element was only used during broiling. Many ovens now use both elements during normal baking to regulate the temperature better and brown things better. Since the top element is sparking, it's pretty obvious that it's getting current, right? Is it only sparking when you try to broil? The proper course is not to argue about it, but to replace it. In the meantime, you should remove it if you need to use the oven and just run off the lower element. Disconnect the power before you attempt that, obviously.

Can anyone point me toward an article that describes the causes of Zimbabwe's inflation/hyperinflation? I've googled but nothing seems to explain (in any great detail anyway) the policies or events that lead to it. Thanks.
