What do you mean by better? Cheaper? Faster? Alive? Super Shuttle is about $15, but it's a shared ride and slower. http://www.supershuttle.com/
According to this, it'll cost you somewhere between $25 and $30 depending on what time you're getting in (which pretty much determines the amount of traffic you'll hit). Then you're on the hook for the toll at the Midtown Tunnel which is $6.50. The subway doesn't run directly to LaGuardia, so if you go the mass transit route, you'll have to take the bus from Laguardia to Manhattan and then you can get out at a free transfer and take the subway from there down to Times Square. That'll only run you $2.25 but if you're new to the city, I wouldn't recommend it, especially if you've got a bunch of baggage with you. If you don't mind the shared ride and possibly taking longer to drop other people off, the Airport Shuttle is probably your best bet.
Last time I flew into Laguardia I took the NYAS http://www.nyairportservice.com/ It's a bus, so it's not an awkward van, and it's a lot faster than taking the shuttle. It only makes 3 stops after leaving the airport: Grand Central, Port Authority (42nd and 8th) and Penn Station. If you're staying in Times Square, you're going to be pretty close if you get off at the Port Authority.
I work in a leading UK tourist hotel and it seems mine, as well as most of the competitors offer significantly cheaper prices if you ring them than you would ever get online. Just in case anyone didn't know.
I like Kayak (as someone else mentioned) but I've also had really good luck with Priceline's bid program. Just depends on how picky you are.
If you want to use Priceline, you can go to TripAdvisor's forums and search for the city you are going to. Once there you can find the low bids that got accepted.
You know, I'm not sure about hotels, but my experience with flights is that a lot of times (unless you're getting on of those 30 dollar to popular locations-dealies) it's cheaper to go directly to the flight company's website. Me and my fiance fly back and forth to Hawaii several times a year, and I search every possible "cheap flight" site in addition to parent company flight websites. Generally I find that Delta is cheaper at their parent site than expedia, orbitz, or the like.
This is more for my own curiosity than anything else, since clearly there's nothing to be done for this injury. I took a hit in the face last week, square on the nose. A bit of swelling but no bruising. There was a crunch when I got hit, and from that moment to this I can't stand to put any lateral pressure on the bridge of my nose. It doesn't hurt to touch the tip, but if I forget and touch the side of it it hurts like a bastard. Anyone with medical knowledge of face injuries...what is this apt to be? Bruised sinus? Damaged cartilage? I haven't been sleeping for shit since it happened and I'm worried something is now interfering with my airway while I sleep.
First, I'm no doctor. There's not enough information to tell for sure what it could be. But, in general, what most people consider to be a broken nose is actually damaged cartilage (since the nose itself has no bone in it). If you heard a crunch, I'd say it's likely there's some cracked cartilage in there. The pressure change when you lay your head down to sleep could be enough to make sleeping difficult. More details would be needed such as where exactly you got hit, how hard and the angle, and what with. You also didn't mention whether you're having trouble breathing normally in one or both nostrils. Also, did you get one, two or no black eyes from the injury?
I don't think it's a huge deal; just bruising. I think. I took the hit square-on; imagine someone punching you directly in the nose. No discernible problems breathing in one nostril or the other, and (surprisingly) no black eyes. I thought for sure they'd bruise by the next day. What hurts is putting side pressure right on the bump of the nose. It'll heal on its own, I guess.
I'd say at a best guess you've got some bruising and a minor cartilage tear. There's always the possibility of some bone chipping, but it's very unlikely. Since your airways aren't blocked, and your nose obviously isn't smeared across your face, all you're likely to get from any doc would be pain relief and swelling management anyway. Painful and sensitive, but that's noses for you. Ice on and off until the swelling goes down. Take care not to whack it while it's healing. Oh, and avoid sleeping on your face. It'll tell you if you're doing something wrong.
My Father-in-law had a heart attack last Thursday. After visiting today he gave me his ipod to charge for him. I want to return it with a special playlist making fun of his condition. So far I have: Faker- This Heart Attack Robyn/Kleerup- With every heart beat Beastie Boys- Heart Attack man Anymore ideas? The more obscure the better. sidenote: I seriously love this guy, today he got my wife to take a photo of me pretending to pull a plug from the wall while he acted dead. He then posted it on facebook with a comment saying I was after his money.
