If you're going to ask for help, at least provide some basic info, like what OS, etc. That's why it wasn't answered; might as well have said "my car doesn't work any more... any suggestions?" Odds are you have a virus of some sort, so search that thread and find the previously given advice on how to de-virusify yourself. And move the conversation back to the tech thread.
Does anyone have a LUELinks invite I can have? I can spot you a waffles and/or demonoid invite but really if you have LUE you dont need those too much
What you want some info to help the guy out? How fucking dare you. Get out your crystal ball and get to work.
My Powerbook is old, tired and needs some love... I know I need to upgrade the RAM* to get her back up to speed, should I do an OS upgrade as well? Anything else? *Reliable and moderately priced sources would be appreciated too.
How old is your Powerbook? If I remember, the line was discontinued in 2006, which means its at least 5 years old. A RAM upgrade is probably not all you need, and depending on the other hardware, it might not make a big difference for the $80 you spend on it. I would hold off a little bit until you can just buy a new laptop, even if its an entry-level mac book.
I bought it the summer of 05 (I think). Yeah, she's old. It still works great just a little slow (it's not my primary computer now). Considering I paid almost 2k for it, I'll gladly put a little money into it if that will help. Edit: I know that I've got more than my money's worth. The reason I'd rather upgrade than buy new is that I can't afford the new one I want right now.
You could probably do well with a 1 gig upgrade then. Don't bother with a full OS upgrade, as your CPU may have trouble with it and it won't do anything to speed up your computer anyway. My advice would be to just make sure your current OS is up to date.
Look into upgrading to a Solid State Drive. I have an old Powerbook that I swapped out the old drive for an SSD, and it is WAY faster. I didn't need all the storage I had in it originally, so went with one of the cheapest, low volume SSD's that would work, so it was less than a couple hundred bucks. Biggest ROI for performance and battery life ever.
Just got a really good opportunity in Charleston, WV. If you live there or can get me in contact with someone there, please shoot me a message ASAP.
Totally agree. There probably isn't a bigger performance upgrade for the dollar that you can buy right now than a good solid state drive.
My latest MacBook Pro has a 600GB SSD, and from a complete power off, it boots, I can log in, and have mail and firefox running in under 10 seconds. I can boot a Windows 7 VM in parallels and be logged in and using Visual Studio in under 10 seconds. Building the latest Need For Speed online servers/databases/etc, basically the entire server side software from scratch took about a minute and a half, on my laptop, compared to about 5 minutes on my "top of the line" desktop they provided me. It's fucking scary.
I'm looking to start a social blog/events guide for the city I live in. As a student here I've found that most people have no idea about all the events going on at the two universities, gig venues and clubs. Due to this everyone just settles into a routine of going to the same clubs every week and a lot of great events/venues get poor attendance. I'm looking to try out the idea on a free platform like Blogger or Wordpress with a view to moving to proper hosting if the idea takes off. The problem is that I need the blog to have an events calendar and I cant seem to get that with the aforementioned platforms, am I'm a missing a way to do it on them or is there a alternative platform? I still want it to be styled like a blog with regular posts involving event spotlights, reviews and guides etc. I just want a small calendar at the side where people can click on days to see events for that day. I know there are a fair few people here knowledgeable about such things. Thanks in advance for any help.
Just came into possession of a 1980's Dixie-Narco 180CC/105-5 vending machine. It's a coke machine, and I'm not even sure if it works yet. I just picked it up, and i'm letting it sit upright for the next 24 hours before plugging it in (Wasn't stored on it's back, just put on it for the 40 minute drive home). If anyone knows anything about these machines, please let me know. Any info is appreciated.
I got an hp Pavilion dv6-3133nr Entertainment Notebook for Christmas. By and large, I love this thing, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to upload a picture anywhere outside of the websites that the computer already came with a tab for. (Facebook, YouTube, places like that.) So I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to upload pictures to this place, and others.
There are lots of integrations with Google Calendar written for Wordpress and, I assume, a lot of the other content management platforms. <a class="postlink" href="http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/google-calendar-widget/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/goo ... ar-widget/</a> <a class="postlink" href="http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/google-calendar-events/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/goo ... ar-events/</a>
P.S. why are technical questions getting posted in the help thread when there's an entire tech forum?
Because not as many people read the tech forum and you're more likely to get a response here. See. You're welcome.
It's a quantity-vs-quality thing. Problems are more likely to get resolved succinctly and accurately in a forum where fewer people who are more technically oriented pay attention. Getting more responses, or faster responses, isn't always better. Anyway. Off topic. Back to helping people.
False. Those of us that answer the vast majority of tech questions monitor the Tech Help Thread. To reduce any further confusion, from this point forward, any other technical questions posted here will be deleted. Post them in the forum where they are supposed to go.
Other than Craigslist, do you guys know of any other decent source I could use to find used work boats?
