Does anyone have any good torrent sites/download sites for Kindle/eBook torrents? I'm looking for a few new books in particular, and can't seem to find them. I'm sure there's someone on here who knows where to look for things like that. Thanks!
Between <a class="postlink" href="http://ebookee.org/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://ebookee.org/</a> and <a class="postlink" href="http://filestube.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://filestube.com</a> I am able to find most of the ebooks I'm looking for. As far as I know there isn't a real big pirating market out there for ebooks yet. I hope they do come around soon.
Has anyone heard of some really rare, weird, compelling, gross, WHATEVER parasite that they could share with me? I've got to do a project for my parasite class on 5 species that we haven't covered in class (and we covered a LOT) and would love your input. I've found a few but none of them are terribly interesting.
The problem with that is most of the awesome gross parasites you probably covered. Taenia is nasty, but I promise that was in there. Loa loa is a worm in the eye, if you didn't use that one, give it a try. I'll find my parasite book later and see what else I can come up with.
Chances are, your class has covered Cordyceps, The tongue eating louse is pretty nasty, though. If I kind find the clip of QI that I learned about it from, I will send that your way.
Thanks guys. Yeah, we did cover those but thanks for the input anyway! And for that tongue eating Isopod, did you know it actually is commensal with the fish? It eats its tongue, but then it acts and functions as a tongue afterwards. All, the continuum that is relationships... Actually, we covered filarial worms in general plus a few species, like the guinea worm and the one that causes river blindness, but we didn't cover that species specifically in any depth. Hooray! It is gross and I am using it. Thanks dearie.
So is it parasitic up til it consumes the tongue and then commensal afterwards? Not trying to be a dick or disagreeable, just genuinely curious. It's been about 7-8 years since I've taken a biology class, so it's been awhile since I've learned all this stuff. Here's the episode of QI that I talked about At about 1:45 is when they start talking about the louse and they talk about a couple more afterwards. Here's some I found on a random website when I was looking for more info on the parasites they talk about on the episode of QI I posted. http://sciencefocus.com/feature/health/10-deadly-parasites Sacculina sounds pretty damn spine tingling.
There was a patient at the hospital I used to work at that had a worm in his arm... He was some HIV+ guy from South America... They had to wrap it around a tube and pull it out a couple inches every day. I can't remember the genus or species though, racking my brain for it. It was nasty. Dog heartworm is also nasty. You might not have covered it if your class focused on human only stuff. I'm assuming you covered all the blood flukes?
Yup, everything. I can link you to my online posted notes if you want to browse them out of curiosity. That worm you are thinking of is the guinea worm. As for that isopod tongue, exactly. When it is eating the tongue, parasite. After that, they're working together. It's easy to come up with words with definitions...parasite, commensal, predator, prey...but real life doesn't fall neatly into those categories.
Legal question - $$$ Need some legal advice on whether we should go to an actual lawyer or just take our lumps. The story: A few months ago my business partner with whom I am co-owner of an incorporated company with, decided in his infinite wisdom to download and install a "cracked" version of the CAD software we use. This was the latest version of the software which had recently come out. We had no clients using this revision but he wanted to have a look and see and play with the newest version. So he plays with it for a few months every once and a while, learning the new features. At some point he sends me a copy of the cracked software. Since I've been working remotely from the office for the last year and a half, I am running a different antivirus then he is. As soon as this attachment hits my inbox, my antivirus flags it as a trojan and quarantines it. I'm pissed because this is my work computer, so I send him an saying "You almost infected my computer with this shit, and your computer is likely infected" Flash forward to November. A large client of ours wants to start using the the latest version of said CAD program, so we shell out the $10K or so to buy a pair of licenses and are legitimately using the software. Yesterday my business partner gets an email from the maker of the CAD software saying that they know our company is using an unlicensed copy of the software, this is really serious, you're in deep shit. He calls the company and plays dumb for a bit to find out what they know and what this is about. What we've pieced together is that the "cracked" version of the software is actually planted on the web by the maker of the software, and is in fact a trojan that reports back to the mothership. At the very least the trojan reported back the computer login name, and the computer MAC, and when the software was being used. God know what else. Since we currently have two legal licenses, their legal department is supposedly willing to be lenient according to the person my business partner talked to, so its looking like we're going to be essentially blackmailed into buying another license or at least an add-on module. Putting aside the morals/ethics of my business partner for a sec, I suppose my question is: Was it legal for the software company to do what it did? If the police can't tap my phone without a warrant, can a software company distribute software that logs and reports back information without the user knowledge or consent? Their EULA does state that they collect data from unlicensed software, and if you don't want to be monitored then go buy a licence. However, does this make what they did legal? Should we consult a lawyer on this, or just take our lumps and pay up?
So, I'm moving to Brisbane, Australia and I need a place to stay. I was wondering if anyone knows of any websites that I should check out or stay away from when it comes to trying to find a place to live. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks guys!
I wanted to get a friend a bottle of scotch for Christmas. I have no idea what he prefers Can anyone recommend a good one in the $80-100 range?
Lagavulin for the scotch. Alright, back on Tucker's board there was a member who started a blog basically talking about his life in the porn industry - does anyone still have a link to his blog?
I'm not about to go searching for a direct link while I'm at work, but his name is Tyler Knight. You should be able to find it from there.
Hey guys, I know some of you are looking for jobs in this rough economy. I've recently been informed my job is filling 200+ positions here pretty soon in the tech support department. You'll be paid $13 an hour plus opportunities for over time and you'll have the opportunity for bonus. The position is pretty much guaranteed if you're willing to come in ON TIME EVERYDAY and willing to learn. This position requires a very flexible schedule so I don't recommend this to people still in college. This position is in the Dallas Metroplex. PM me if you want further info.
If anyone with a background or at least a solid understanding of statistics, specifically multiple regression models has time to proof read a case study before 5pm central time on December 15, 2011 (I know very short notice) I would be very much obliged. Please send me a PM.
This is a bit of a long shot My daughter is 26 and a theater director in NYC. She is currently attached to a new musical that will be touring in Texas during the month of January. She needs to find her own housing - does anyone know of any inexpensive (or free) housing in or around the Dallas Arts District? Possibly someone has a spare room that they would be willing to let out for a few weeks. I don't know anything about Texas or the Dallas Arts District so anyone that can point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
Does anyone know of good websites that have information on oil/gas field jobs in the Dakotas or MT/WY?
