So I got my dad a Beer of the Month thing for Christmas. However, I haven't actually put the order in yet, I've been looking around at a few different ones but I'm not sure what ones are solid and which aren't. I haven't actually tried one of these before, so if anyone has any positive/negative experiences or recommendations as to what ones I should check out, I'd be real thankful.

Math problem: At work we have a project to share information between different systems in order to meet a benchmark for some funding. In order for two different systems to communicate a custom interface needs to be built. Every system needs to be able to communicate with every other system on the network. So, if s represents the systems and n represents interfaces it breaks down like this:

If s = 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6...
Then n = 0, 1, 3, 6, 10, 15...

In other words, for every additional unique system added to the network the amount of new interfaces needed to be built increases by one. My issue is that I want to express this algebraically and am stumped.

Whores has definitely the most efficient and effective way of doing it, but if you need it to read well for some shitbag academic I'd go with:

m = s(s+1)/2
n = m-s

The only reason I say that is because x(x+1)/2 is a very recognizable term to any mathematician for increasing quantities starting at one (think bowling pins) and the m-s piece can represent the adjustment for starting at zero for n. Or you could always start with n=1, I think that's what Jesus would have done.

Thanks for your responses guys. I took enough math classes in college that I should've known how to arrive at such a simple equation, which is why it was driving me nuts.

So I'm probably picking up a pool table in the near future. Anyone have any experience leveling and refelting a table? It it even possible to reuse the felt, or should I just go new? I've read up a bit online, and it seems fairly straightforward. But if anyone has any tricks or tips, I'm all ears. Also, do you think it's feasible to fit all the parts of the table in a hatchback (VW Golf) and a car (can put the seats down)? Or am I definitely going to need an SUV or truck?

Hopefully you've discovered the correct method online - take it completely apart. It's surprisingly easy when you do that. The slate should be in three pieces and two people can carry each piece. You may be able to get it all in two vehicles, but a truck or van would make things a lot easier, especially when you unload the slate pieces. The slate alone probably weighs more than you want to put in a Golf. You don't want to be this guy:

I was given a pool table last year and I moved it with the help of my wife and kids. They actually did most of the assembly while I was at work, so it's not rocket science. They left the leveling for me though. Ideally you would use a precision level to get within a few arc-seconds of being perfectly level, but I used a quality 24-inch framing level and made sure the bubble was not just between the lines, but perfectly centered between them too. Check each end and each side and diagonally to see which way it needs to go. You'll need some very thin pieces of laminate to use for the shims. I was able to use the original shims that were already under the table. We re-used the felt and it looks great.

It is likely some songs purchased off iTunes are in the older .m4p format, which is "protected"/restricted to just one user's account. Newer iTunes purchases are in the .m4a format, which doesn't suck a big bag of copy-protected dicks. I do not know of a free solution, and am curious whether one exists.

Anyone have a good resource for finding apartments and housing online? I've been on craigslist and though there are a lot of listings, the ones that meet my requirements (cost, location, not a shit hole) are pretty few. Thanks in advance!

Hey all,

My wife has been accepted for a phd program at University of Texas so looks like we will be moving in a few months. We live in NYC. Having never moved more than a few dozen miles, I know very little of the process. Can anyone who has experience doing a long distance move answer some questions and provide some advice?

I'm sorry if some of these are difficult to answer without enough info but my basic questions are:

how much should I expect to spend for a 1700 mile move with a 1-bedroom apartment worth of stuff assuming the movers will load and unload?

can anyone recommend some good cross country movers they have used?

how long in advance of the actual do i need to schedule my move?

Appreciate the help.

My wife and I are seriously considering cancelling our cable service and going online for our TV watching. I have a PS3, and we have a Netflix account.

I know live sporting events and the news won't be available online, but what other sources are out there for TV shows? I currently watch Pawn Stars, Storage Wars, Parks & Recreation, The Office, Community, and pretty much everything on VH1 Classic. Will these shows be available the next day or am I SOL on that?

Thanks in advance.

I cut the cord over a year ago and am not looking to go back anytime soon. If you want all you can eat shows (legally) as recent as possible, Hulu is probably your best bet, but that's another $8 a month and quite frankly I was unimpressed when I did the free trial, not great resolution and they had ads which pissed me off. And I think you'd need a roku to stream that to the TV, don't think it's on PS3, but I could be wrong. You could also just buy individual shows through Apple TV or Amazon.

To be honest though, once you go a month or so of being behind on shows you get use to it and start plowing through whole seasons of a show at a time instead of playing the weekly single episode at a specific time game, the Netflix library is just so huge.

Also, there's a few options for live sporting events through Apple TV, roku and PS3, but most of them require a paid subscription or are pay per view.

We've moved twice due to corporate relos. Movers packed, loaded, transported, unloaded and unpacked. If I remember correctly, cost was determined by total weight, distance from door to the moving van on both ends of the move, and distance of the move. I don't recall what the total from NH to TX was (wife might-I'll ask her when she gets home). Her company paid for it, so I didn't pay much attention to the bill. Moving company was Reid & Clark. At the time, they just did corporate relos, but I don't know if that's changed. I'd definitely recommend them though. They were great to work with. As for scheduling, once you know the date you can move into your new place in Austin, the movers can work from that. Youll need to be somewhat flexible since most likely it won't just be your move on that truck. Still, they're masters of logistics and scheduling. They'll have your apartment packed in a day.

Good luck and welcome to Texas. 2 places that are musts in Austin: Saltlick BBQ and Magnolia Cafe. (My oldest will start college in Austin in the fall, and I'm looking forward to gingerbread pancakes for b'fast and the best damn brisket ever for dinner when I drop her off!).

I'm trying to find sites where I can pimp my friends music. He's a rapper from the UK-been going about a year, writes his own lyrics but at the moment is ,ahem, 'borrowing' other peoples music. Any suggestions are greatly welcome.

(I've put this in the self promotion thread recently, but I'll stick it here too: http://www.youtube.com/user/seano974?feature=g-all-u )

When my sister was looking for an apartment, she used http://hotpads.com/ It lets you search by cost, location, price, school districts, age of surrounding residents, and some other options. My sister found a place in Philly that wasn't a shithole through this website.

Hi.

I suck at computers, but got a Samsung Galaxy Tablet for Christmas. It has a USB thing and my TV has a USB port. Is there a way I can play things on my TV via this? Or if not, is there any way at all to play things from my tablet on the TV?

Thanks.

You won't be able to use USB to connect the tablet to your TV. What you can use is this, and an HDMI cable.

A friend of mine has a class ring a young man gave her back around 1990, and she'd like to return it to him.

She's 39, happily married, and has an awesome child. She'd just like to get this man's high school ring back to him.

I have his name, his high school, and year of graduation, and a few other details.

I googled him and found a bit of information, but came up a bit of short of how to reconnect him with his class ring. If I had my computer I'm sure I could find him, but I don't.

She doesn't want to speak to him, catch up on old times or anything else. She just wants to return his ring.

Please PM me if you think you can help.

So I have iPad and I have been scouring for ages to try and find a site like Vuze to download ebooks. Does anyone have any recommendations as to where to get content?
