Anyone have tips/advice for finding random roommates on Craigslist?

I've been living at home for far too long, and I just accepted a new, hopefully good job, so it's high time I got my ass out of the suburbs. Pretty much all of my friends already have solid living situations now, though, so I am left to either get my own place or do the random thing. I'm a pretty outgoing guy so finding some new people to live with seems like an acceptable way to cut down on living costs. I appreciate any thoughts from someone who has suffered/been successful on that kind of search.

Anyone here able to tell me which measure of alcohol measurement, in toxicology, is accurate? I am looking at am autopsy report and the difference between the alcohol level in the vitreous humor and the blood is substantially different (like .16 different, or the difference between being fucked up and death). Which one is a better indicator of true BAC as it relates to alcohol poisoning. Googling around proved inconclusive.

My brother lived with two people from Craigslist. The first time the girl kept taking his money and not paying the rent. Imagine his surprise when the Sheriffs department showed up asking him to pack his things and vacate. That led to him having to find a place to live in a hurry, which is where story number 2 begins.

The second one robbed him while he was out of town. My brother came home, and found all of his valuables missing. Then he went to see if the roommates stuff was gone, and then discovered that all of his stuff had been cleaned out. He never heard from him again. We did find him living in a county jail on theft charges a few years later.

I'm sure not all experiences are bad. just the two I know of.

I'm currently living with 3 craigslist roommates, and for the most part all is good. One of them is a weirdo, but we don't really see him too much. It's pretty much a huge crapshoot, you can get end like Frebis' brother or just have a fairly normal experience. Keep your bullshit detector on high alert, make sure you meet the people beforehand, find out what they do, etc. Oh, and it'd probably be best if you had a key that locked your own room, so as to prevent (at least deter) shit like that, at least until you know that they people you're living with aren't sleazebags.

I started listening to Miles Davis on pandora, and I'm really digging him. I went to iTunes to buy some of his albums, and realized there's about 5000 of them. I was wondering if any jazz listeners on here had some recommendations as to what I should start out with. Are there any that are your favorite/least favorite etc.

I'd put this in the music thread, but it seems like that's for more recent music. Thanks in advance.

I need some good ideas for a winter golf club. It's part of a fundraiser. There will be an 18 hole golf course out on a frozen lake. I will use a tennis ball as a golf ball. I will also probably be drunk.
If you check out this link it will give you a general idea of what's going on. http://www.hookandslice.org/pictures.html

Hockey stick, ala Happy Gilmore. Or just buy one of those cheap drivers with the oversized head at WalMart for $20. That's about all theyre good for.

I'm going to Canada (Vancouver) for a long weekend next month, and last time I was there, I was too cheap to use Data Roaming on my iPhone (AT&T), and it became immediately how apparent I am useless without internet. (I had to use the phone book. PHONE BOOK!). I've heard of being able to buy a prepaid SIM card from Rogers or Fido, is that something I can do in advance over the internet, or should I just stop buy a store once I get into town? Thanks!

Depending on your phone and original carrier you may also need to call them up and get an unlock code for your phone. As an example, I went to Montreal recently and wanted to get a Canadian SIM Card while there to avoid the data charges. I have a Nexus One through T-Mobile. I had to call T-mobile and get them to send me an unlock code that I wouldneed to use before putting in the foreign SIM or it wouldn't work.

I need to "unlock" my phone before using a Canadian SIM? How do I go about doing this?

Any chemists, physicists or winos here that happen to know the volumetric coefficient of thermal expansion for wine that is approximately 12% ABV?

Assuming you do, call your regular cell carrier and ask them about it. Not everyone has a locked phone, but from what little I know, even if it's locked, your carrier will help you unlock it as a matter of course.

OK, very, very, VERY random request: My son LOVES the old He-Man show thanks to Netflix. I used to have all the toys as a kid, but that was oh, 30 years ago, so yeah, they are in a landfill somewhere.

If ANY of you happen to stumble upon decent, clean, not ridiculously over-priced (like on Ebay) He-Man/Masters of the Universe toys, or if you happen to have a stash of them in your parents' garage, could you let me know? I do NOT want collectors stuff, I want things he can wage wars of good vs. evil with.

My nephew is getting baptized Sunday and I'm the godfather. I need to find a baptism gift but can't think of anything good. Everything I find online is religious with a cross on it. I'm not religious and want to stay away from something like that. Any thoughts my fellow idiots?

If you're also trying to stay away from the normal kid shit maybe something like an investment for him, bond rates blow right now so you might want to steer clear of that, but maybe a little bit in a mutual fund or even a note or two on a peer to peer lending site could be a nice gift. It doesn't have to be much either, you could probably get into most of this stuff for $25.

Personally I would just get him whatever you think the parents want you to get him, I know your beliefs are important to you, but this is their day.

Exactly. You understand that, technically, your role as godfather is to make sure the kid continues his religious development should anything happen to his parents.

It's more of an honor at this point, but your gift should reflect that honor. It's probably going to be tucked away in a memory box anyways. This really isn't the time or place to avoid making a religious statement. You could have done that by declining their invitation to be the godfather in the first place.

While these things may be true, I'd still like to recommend that you get him little tiny swim fins and a snorkel.
