The hardware store by me sells an adapter that you slide over the tailpipe of your car and connect a garden hose. Shove the hose down the hole, and let the car run for 20 minutes or so. The carbon dioxide in the exhaust is heavier than air, so it will fill in all the tunnels and suffocate them. It's painless for them, they just go to sleep and don't wake up. Does anyone know of a way to monetize a website without using any visual ads or by capturing and selling site visitor data? Visual ads would be useless for the application (it would be a site used by the blind and visually impaired) and they may also affect accessiblity, as any images tend to screw up screen readers. I'm also not ok with selling anyone's data or contact information because I wouldn't want them receiving spam or some other bullshit. I'm pretty dumb when it comes to this stuff, and I don't know if such a thing exists, but if anyone has any ideas, I'd be interested in hearing them.
The only issue with audio ads is that they would be in conflict with the screen reading software. As the software reads content on the site, the ad would be playing at the same time--which would be confusing at the very least.
You mean "The Enemy of All that is Good and Holy, Spawn of the Dark Lord, Defiler of Ears"? If you've ever had one of those FUCKS go off while you're streaming video or music, you'll know what I mean. I guess it might be different for blind people (is there a program that reads what's on the screen for them? Because if so, and if the two audio feeds clash, it's going to be a clusterfuck) but I can solemnly vouch that there is nothing on the internet more infuriating to me than audio ads that won't shut the fuck up. How about having an opening page that's a relevant, targeted ad, with a "continue to site" option? Quite a few websites do that, and it might solve your conundrum.
Not if the ad was embedded in the content. It could say, "Here's an important message from our sponsor, XYZ, Inc. To skip this message, press the esacpe key". I don't know what type of content you plan to deliver, but if there's a product for the blind that has affinity to your content, it would be a great opportunity for both them and you. Or you could go more generic and sell sponsorships to blind-affiliated organizations such as the AFB.
The website is set up like a blog, so I'd have to see how I would go about embedding ads in between the posts, but that's not a bad idea, either. I like the option of skipping the ad as well.
Not sure where else to post this, so here goes: My friend's fiance is suffering from cancer in Singapore after a series of misdiagnoses from doctors in Bali. She needs help paying for the surgery and medical care, so he created a website for crowdfunding. Please contribute what you can. http://gogetfunding.com/project/help-my ... eat-cancer Also, any suggestions on how to get the word out?
Need some advice on how to go about getting my Ipod back. As I mentioned last week in the R AND R thread I lost it at a bar. I turned on "find my iPod" and had it set to lock and locate when it hit a wifi and connected to the internet. Well it did last night at 2:30 am in a dicey apartment complex across the river from Cincy. I never filed a police report but am probably going to do so tomorrow. Id probably do it in the district it was lost in, which isn't where it was located? Ill have to call apple and see what I can do with locating it with them. I never wrote down the serial number and need to see if I can get it from them, if they can track that through my purchase order Im hoping... Besides that I guess I should try and see if the local PD will help at the apartment complex?
Does anyone know where I can do a reverse phone lookup without paying for it? I've been getting texts from someone and I've been texting back since they were just asking benign swim questions and now I feel like it's kind of rude to say "By the way, who is this?" I have a feeling it's someone I deleted from my phone that I didn't talk to anymore, but I don't care enough to spend the $1/2 to know for sure. It's just kind if bugging me. Thanks.
I've got some massive Smart-UPS 2200, and Smart-UPS 3000 Tower UPS that I'm going to throw in a few network closets in the building. The only things that'll be on these units are some network switches, and a firewall at one location. Small draw, on average no more than 300 watts under max load. They came with 30 amp inputs, I want to throw them on 15 amp inputs so I can use a regular wall socket, and wont have to call in an electrician to put in a new line. These units will never have to pull that much power, so I figure I'm fine. The only thing they're really doing is suppling 160 lbs of battery, and I know it's overkill in regards to how much power is being drawn. This was APC's response - search KB article: FA156517 Someone in their support org told me it would be fine to change and reduce the input, but I figured I'd ask on this board to see if anyone disagreed.
All it states is that you're going to derate amount of current that the UPS can provide. As long as your 15A receptacles are protected by a 15A breaker you will be fine. You will get nuisance tripping on your breaker if you load up the UPS beyond 15A but that's about all or if the charging current is greater than 15A. I would put a label on the UPS's identifying that they are limited to 15A so somebody doesn't try and run a bunch of stuff on them.
This might sound totally silly, but do any of you know some sort of sneaky trick for finding good apartments? Boyfriend and I mostly love our apartment, but there are some definite drawbacks (loud sex neighbors and a shitty electric stove, to name a few) so we are kicking around the idea of moving. I've been looking at craigslist and rentlinx, as well as contacting some local property management companies, but I feel like there must be something I'm missing. Or maybe the perfect apartment just doesn't exist. Suggestions?
I used CL to find this apartment that I live in now. I am using zillow.com to find a house to buy back home for when we move. Zillow also has things listed for rent.
Anybody involved in distribution? Ie owns/works at a distribution company? We now live in a part of the country where food products I'm familiar with from the city are now not available, and I've seen that some of these product producers are looking for distribution in new territories for them, so I'm....curious. Questions like how did you get started, what equipment/warehousing/etc you need, who you sell to and buy from, etc.
Hey guys, being sent to Jacksonville for a few months for rotation...anyone have tips about decent, relatively cheap areas, etc? I think the cost of living is pretty low there, but when I see awesome rent prices I get a little worried about being in the ghetto. Ditto for advice about Colorado Springs.
Just survived a round of layoffs at work. They claim no more cuts will be made. Do I believe these people or get the fuck out of Dodge? I like the place and wasn't going to leave unless a significantly better opportunity came up, now I'm thinking even a lateral move might need to be made.
