I only listen to two Christmas albums. One is twisted sister's best album. Sample below. The other being South Park's. My favorite song from that can be found below.
I've always wondered how this came to be. Whose idea was it? How many people scoffed at it as nonsense. However it played out, the result is sheer brilliance. This never gets old.
A few years ago I made a personal Christmas Mix CD that is widely acknowledged by all listeners to be the greatest Christmas Mix CD ever. It is bookended by this and the reprise. This one is in the middle somewhere. It's a one-off album cut for the Very Special Christmas 3 compilation. Trivia: the melody line is the instrumental solo from Trey Anastasio's Divided Sky put to words. One thing I enjoy in addition to the modern Christmas classics are the classic-classics (reinterpreted modern-ly, natch). Also, what the fuck is wrong with you people that there are two pages of Easy-E and not this:
Frankly, I love Christmas music. Here are three of my favorites. "Rock" "Jazz" "Also Jazz" (This one particularly because I always seem to end up in New Orleans around Christmas time. No exception this year.)
I defy any of you to find a better guitar solo in a Christmas song A downer Xmas tune, but an Xmas tune nonetheless And of course, a prog rock Christmas tune And to round it all out, a glam rock Christmas tune
Fucking love Christmas. (as a side note this guy has done some multitrack songs that are kind of cool.)
Shegirl posted it earlier, but this is a better version and her link is dead. There are two christmas songs I don't hate with a raging fury. My obligatory O Holy Night: Which is purposefully awful, and then Zooey Deschannel and Leon Redbone doing "Baby, It's cold outside". As Shegirl commented, damn that girl can sing. Cute as a fucking button as well. (straight up vocal version with no talkies to distract)
The only Christmas album I listened to for years was an Oscar Peterson Christmas. For the most part, I prefer my Christmas music without people singing, and this album has a nice mix of upbeat and quiet.
For any other Lovecraft nerds on here: The H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society released 2 albums of Christmas carols with mythos lyrics. Here are a couple of samples: Carol of the Old Ones It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Fishmen
Soma.fm has a special NSFW station for the holidays called "X-mas in Frisko". Here's a link : http://somafm.com/play/xmasinfrisko When i turned it on yesterday, they had a song called "I'm getting baked for chrismas" which i thought was full of win. I also highly encourage people to check out the other stations on soma.fm . It is quite awesome.
