Hutch posted his thoughts on Black Ops a couple days ago, for what it's worth. I put a lot of stock into what he says about all things COD, because his approach to the games are usually very objective and concise. I'd even go as far as calling him the most credible source out there on the franchise. I think it's especially worth posting this video on here, because of how much it contrasts with the reviews in this thread so far.
HAHA, wow.. I literally laughed out loud at this one. Jesus christ. To Maltob and anyone else that hasn't bought the game: 0:09-0:32.
I don't want to corrupt this thread yet again with non-COD material, but as a heads-up to you MW2 guys, I had to change my gamertag again. Details here.
What the fuck is the point of using Ninja at all? I always played MW2 with the sound way up, and would get a shitload of kills from having Ninja Pro on, and hearing people try to sneak up on me. Now I can't hear a fucking thing other than gunshots and explosions, so why waste perk 3 on Ninja? It better get patched soon.
I just ordered it on Amazon, resisting next day shipping. Hopefully it'll be here Friday in time for the weekend. I found it for $52.99.
I'm glad I read this first and now am confident I can wait on this game. I'm not a daily and sometimes not even weekly player, and when I do play regularly I now average around 1.5 K/D due to not learning maps intricately and having teammates who don't communicate. Then, I typically play TDM more than any game type due to the lack of communication. Think I'll stick with MW2 until after the holidays. If anyone wants to play w/ someone completely average, my XBL is Le Tigra.
I just picked up BO and will be on nightly trying to make up for lost ground since I didn't play MW2. XBL: JPrue
"Friendly RC-XD incoming" is my new least favorite phrase in video games. 9 times out of 10 I feel like I'm the only person on my team who uses the spy plane, which is unfortunate because it seems like the team with the most spy planes tends to win (broad generalization here, I know there are exceptions). Why trade the 1 RCXD kill for the multiple kills you can get by knowing where the bad guys are, especially since reward kills don't count towards the streak any more? I said I was going back to MW2 but I found my flow in this, forced the PS3 to run it at 720p which actually improved the graphics a bit, discovered the domination that is the Galil, and am having a ton of fun with this game now. I just wish I could get teams with radar... EDIT: Holy shit the flamethrower. I'd never seen it used so I just got it. Holy shit the flamethrower. I'm sold on this game.
I find there are a shitload of people who are using the spy plane simply because its one of the default options. Thats why I use ghost with a silenced weapon.
I haven't seen it mentioned here yet but, Sniper rifles. What. The. Fuck. They are so impossibly imbalanced it takes sniping (traditional no quick scope) out of the game. It is ridiculous with the most 'high powered' sniper rifle it will take between 2-3 shots to down an enemy every time. To me it should be balanced the other way, if you are capable COD player sniping should be advantageous not, detrimental to your success. Is there anyone else that feels this way about BO?
This is actually my only big gripe about this game. In MW2 I played about 50/50, assault/sniping, because sniping was fun and you could actually one shot people with the right setup. In BO it's pretty much pointless. Also the maps don't seem very sniper friendly at all, either.
I agree that Sniper Rifles seem to be pretty weak. Same can be said for the shotguns, especially the SPAS-12. I know everyone hates Nuketown, but this map is extremely fun for "One in the Chamber". Fuck I love this game mode
Call me crazy but I love sniping in BO. Of course they're weaker but isn't it more realistic that you don't just charge into a fight spraying bullets with a sniper rifle? I'm not advocating camping, but staying back and having to pick your shots is what sniping should be about. Just my 2 cents.
Awesome. Fucking awesome. I haven't been able to play the last several days because some friends came in from out of town, and now I have like an hour to play and the server is down?! How does that even happen with a game as big as this? And why is no one else freaking out am I the only one getting that message? EDIT: Finally after 30 minutes I can play
It's a great idea to be sure, but hasn't Halo shown us that the introduction of a custom game type should be extremely easy to introduce into an existing game (MW2) rather than waiting for the next year's inferior incarnation?
One thing I forgot to mention that I really like about Black Ops is that the large maps get converted to small or medium maps for FFA games and wager matches. I hated playing FFA in MW2 on the huge levels (Estate comes to mind), because they were just too big for 4-8 players to play, and you could go two or three minutes without seeing another person. In Black Ops, a new wall or a burning car or something like that will be put up on the huge maps, so they end up being around half the size or so. There are a ton of little things I always disliked about MW2 that Black Ops fixed, and I give Treyarch a lot of credit for that. Now, if they can fix the fact that everyone apparently walks around silent, and make the melee kills more consistent* one way or the other, I'd be happier than a pig in shit. *I tried knifing a guy from behind today and bumped into his back twice without getting the kill. He ran up seven or eight stairs, turned around, and knifed me while I was standing at the bottom of the stairs. I was not happy.
That only works on maps that aren't open. IE all the maps in BO. Estate could never be cordoned off into sections successfully. The only MW2 map I can think of that could be done would be Karachi - which blows any way its divided.
I was already thinking I'd wait a week or two until Gran Turismo 5 gets released. But the odds of it actually being released are kinda small.. I found something that might save the game for me. Ninja Pro makes enemy footsteps louder. That won't fix the fucked up spawns (getting spawntrapped on TDM in Launch is so fun) and the sometimes worthless / sometimes commando knife. The most fun I have in BO is Dead Ops Arcade with 4 people. Which says a lot about this game.
