I got to level 29 on solo Zombies in Kino der Toten. Woo! My previous high was 18. Zeus Cannon (Upgraded Thundergun) + R115 Resonator (Upgraded RPK) = pwned.
In conjunction with this, I humbly offer the following: Buy A Motion Detector ASAP: This is one of the best subtle changes they added to Black Ops in my opinion. Basically you plant it anywhere you want and it emits a radar-like pulse on your minimap. Any enemy player nearby shows up as a red dot as if tagged by a Spy Plane. Comes in handy when you run into a team that uses Ghost to elude Spy Planes, as they still show up when in the vicinity of the Motion Detector. Only people with Hacker Pro can't be detected by it, and since very few people actually get or use to Hacker Pro, it's pretty advantageous. Makes it VERY easy to hold down a portion of a map to build killstreaks.
I'd like to reiterate how much I loathe knifing in Black Ops. It is so fucking inconsistent, it's ridiculous. Bumping off 10 people a game, then getting knifed by those same people from further away gets pretty fucking old when it happens almost every game.
This is absolutely spot on. With Hardline's inability to re-roll SAM Turrets and Sentry Guns, there's been a real decrease in the number of care packages and therefore, things to hack. People are finding that Flak Jacket is just as good if not better than Ghost on most occasions thus further negating the need for Hacker. Hell, there was a lobby where IrishBallistic and I fought an entire team using Ghost to camp us out. Irish went on some ridiculous killing spree because they were ignorant to the motion sensor.
Holy Fuck, this is addictive. I pop in "High Voltage" by AC/DC - specifically It's a Long Way to the Top (If You Want to Rock and Roll), She's Got the Jack, Live Wire, and T'N'T and blast away. This day is completely shot. And I'm loving it.
Popped in Black Ops last night for the first time in about a week, and I remember now why I was never as hooked as I was with MW2. Hit detection, ranging issues, knifing, all inconsistent and anger inducing. When I point blank shoot someone in the face with a shotgun, it should have an effect. What makes it worse is when I watch the killcam and it shows me looking in the other direction and never firing. Knifing is just as inconsistent, doesn't matter if you're standing 5 feet or 5 inches from a guy, you just never know if it's going to register. After yelling at the TV for a few games, I said fuck it and put MW2 in. Immediately the fun came back into playing. Sure I got killed, but I knew it was legit, and that more than makes up for the quickscooping and noobtubing that comes along with it. What it all boils down to for me now is what is actually fun to play, not just the newest game out that I'm told is supposed to be fun. Should be a no brainer, but I'm hardheaded.
Looking at the point you made, I wonder how long it will take Tryarch to update Black Ops enough to hang with MW2. I think within the next year they will have updated it enough. I totally agree with the knifing issues. The only other game where I feel knifing is more of a pain is in Bad Company 2.
I can't blame you there. Play the game that's more fun for you. Seems obvious, but like you said, some people will insist on the latest and greatest thing. For me, it was the other way around. On Black Friday, I said, "Fuck this shit, I can't take it anymore," traded in MW2 for Black Ops, and haven't looked back since. Black Ops has more balance with the guns and perks, and is much less of a twitch shooter than MW2. Not only that, but I don't have to worry about constant air support. That shit grew tiring. I can handle some occasional knife inconsistencies if it means having more fun. xSocrates explains things on his YouTube channel better than I can:
I completely agree with you. MW2 definitely pisses me off with the never ending air support, among the other bullshit problems with it. When I play Black Ops, I have my good games and bad, but it seems the former outweighs the latter. The inconsistencies with hit detection and all that I mentioned before are coming close to a game breaker for me. If Treyarch patches the issues to where people don't get killed through walls five seconds after rounding a corner, then I'll probably make the switch for good. For now, I'll hop back and forth to whichever game doesn't make me want to throw my controller through my LCD.
A lot of people have talked about the poor hit detection, and while I have noticed some wonky incidents which occasionally inspired outright incredulity, I find it to be pretty solid. The issue about just rounding a corner while being shot at and suddenly dying has been an element since the original Modern Warfare, if I recall correctly. This is easily demonstrated when watching the killcam; being shot slows you down and makes you flinch and stutter, and while in your view you are safely around the bend you can see in the killcam that a small part of your back is still exposed and lagging behing, catching the final bullet. Sometimes also wall penetration is a factor, obviously. All in all, I enjoy Black Ops. My biggest highs have still been with Modern Warfare 2, but like many have said, the exploitation of certain game mechanics and simply the fact that I was playing the same maps over and over again led me to being fed up with it. Also, not to sound like a dick, but I find Black Ops much easier than MW2, so much that I would almost call it "easy mode". The maps are a lot more linear, so simply taking down one guy and just waiting for a couple of moments will easily land you two or more kills when people investigate because there aren`t enough avenues for clever flanking. There is almost no verticality (compare the awesome intricacies of Favela and the multitude lines of sight with shit like Hanoi and Cracked, for example) and chokepoints abound; the maps are SO much easier to learn. Also, I agree with the many changes in gameplay philosophy; the focus is on gun-versus-gun, killstreaks are harder to earn, no stopping power, more recoil, killstreaks don`t stack etc. They kind of distilled it. I like that. But the graphics still suck though.
I agree with every single word in this post. Being killed around corners is nothing new for me, either. I've just learned to accept it when I pop in a disc that says Call of Duty on it. People who claim that it's more prevalent in Black Ops are looking for reasons to hate on it. There are legitimate reasons to favor previous COD games over this one, but not being shot around corners isn't one of them. The points about the maps and graphics couldn't be more true. There's much less imagination with the map design in Black Ops than in Modern Warfare 2. I really wish they'd make a map pack with fan-favorite maps like they did in MW2 with COD4 maps. I'd LOVE to play Afghan, Favela, and Terminal in Black Ops. As for the graphics, MW2 not only is head and shoulders better than Black Ops, but it had the best graphics of the entire franchise to date, as far as I'm concerned. TryHardNinja mentioned in this video that every map feels the same (starts at 3:20), as opposed to maps like Terminal, which he said actually feels like you're in an airport terminal. If the sound, graphics, and map design of MW2 had a baby with everything else in Black Ops, you'd have a stellar game. Add in dedicated servers and a matchmaking system that's worth a shit, and it'd be damn near perfect. Oh, to dream...
Does anyone know if BO have something like Final Stand, where you stand back up after going down? I swear to god a guy I'd just blasted pulled a Jesus and rose from the dead. Stood back up as if he'd tripped or something. It's on my fileshare marked as 'FK BLACK OPS' if anyone wants to see. PSN: Planoptik
See I actually like Black Ops maps better that MW2. I always liked to play Terminal in MW2 just because of how good it looked, but the actual design of it sucked in my opinion. It had no flow and the while the idea was great, it could have been put to better use on a larger map. Every game in Terminal boiled down to one team holding down that back inside corner of the map, and both sides lobbing 'tubes at each other. That being said, I would love to have Terminal on Black Ops. Another issue I had with MW2's maps was that they were TOO vertical in my opinion. Every map had a hundred windows and rooftops for people to camp at. It got really annoying on maps like Favela, because you get picked off from like 20 different places. Afghan was my absolute favorite map to play because it didn't have an abundance of windows, there were three or four good sniper spots, multiple pathways, and never got bogged down because of some guy in a window two blocks away sniping you with a UMP. /rant
Wow. That video completely represents what is wrong with Call of Duty. You can randomly throw a knife into the air 200 yards and have it instantly kill someone, but yet a bullet to the face at point blank range doesn't. Awesome.
I doubt you'll find anyone who will disagree with you there. But then, I don't think the game would be fun at all if bullets and knives were as lethal as they are in real life. Sometimes, you have to sacrifice realism for playability.
I get what you're saying, but consider the maximum capacity of knives verses bullets. Also consider how much more difficult it is to tag someone with a knife than with a bullet. In other news, Amazon.ca has Black Ops for 40.00. Brand new with free shipping....It'll be at my door in 2-3 business days.
