MW2 just got patched. I'm gonna be on for a bit if anyone's interested.

    WARNING: I'm rusty as fuck.

Can anyone throw out a few tips for a noob? I'm running mainly a M4A1 with iron sights and a M203, Sleight of Hand, Stopping Power, and Steady Aim. In a total of four or five hours of gameplay I've managed to rank up to level 10, but there are so many matches where I get my ass kicked brutally. I've yet to hit a killstreak of more than three, and I'm usually at a .75 k/d ratio. My main problem seems to be that the enemy always sees me before I see him, no matter where I'm looking. There's always a sniper, someone sneaking behind me...I basically seem to never be looking where I need to be looking.

Additionally, and this is with very little to no lag, my gunfighting sucks. Most of my kills come from opponents who are concentrating on a more skilled teammate. And there is little more annoying than putting three three-round bursts into an opponent only to get blasted by his SMG. Nine bullets and you're still firing? Is this just a good perk or hacking or do I just eat fat ugly ass?

It's really quite simple. Practice Practice Practice. The biggest reason people consistently see you before you see them is because they have better knowledge of the maps. The most basic strategy to use when you don't know the maps is to stay on the outsides, lay off the run, and, if you do run, make it from cover to cover. Your ability to put the sights on the opponent will only come from practice though. Really no way around that. If you're just starting off, it is probably better to choose a gun that requires more luck than precision. Basically, stay away from 3-round bursts and guns with high degrees of accuracy. Pick guns that let you spray in the general direction of the opponent and still get you kills (shotguns are especially good for this, but I don't think they build up your accuracy as fast as aiming down a sight does). Also, if you're gunning long range, take your time in setting up your shot and fire in bursts. You might think this is like a 3 round burst but the advantage is that in close range, you don't have to be as precise with an automatic.

Also, with whatever gun you choose, take a minute to just stand in front of a wall, aim down the sights, and fire. Watch which way the recoil makes your gun move. Do it several times so you know what the consistent pattern is. Then, every time you get into a firefight, try to remember to nudge the analog stick in a direction to counteract the recoil.

As far as equipment goes, use it liberally. Lives last a short amount of time in these kinds of games, and especially so for a noob. Even if you think there is a 20% chance of an opponent being somewhere that is out of gunsight, toss a grenade. A grenade sitting in your equipment when you die is worthless. Same applies to flashbangs. If you suspect someone is around a corner but aren't sure, toss a flashbang. The game tells you if you blinded someone and it is an easy way to give yourself a huge advantage in any firefight.

I'd have to say the same as far as keeping the run and gunning to a minimum. Fastest way to hamburger town is running. You'll have to just get used to the lay out of the maps but find good ambush spots that other people seem to use. Im sure half the spots I used were discovered when some more inventive well seasoned player tagged me from one. I usually use two of these spots at a time during any given map and work between them, usually they have good access to bottle necks and major throughways.

For example a very popular one in Karachi is the roof top that has an access stairway in back, the stairway entrance is across from a little supply garage with a half open garage door. One part of the roof looks back over a courtyard area with a cafe, the upper roof overlooks the main street and other buildings. Switching between the two roofs and protecting the doorway is very popular. I switch between it and the building opposite it across the middle crater of the map, the building with bombed out staircase. That building lets you have access to a lot of good areas.

It's basically camping with a little bigger area in mind. Of coarse if Im going to camp I like to have fun with it. Say in Quarry, the big hanger with the tank in it, is a good one. I'd claymore up an entrance then hide under the stairway or opposite it on the other side of the tank behind the crates. You tag someone with the claymore, then someone from your first spot, then run to the opposite spot and wait for the same player to come'a running to your first spot and blast them. Rinse and repeat until they start lobbing nades in the window in frustration and anger. Doesnt work forever or all the time but is always damn fun when you sucker the same player in multiple times.

Well if you snipe you can usually pick off a couple people as soon as you spawn, just run like fuck to the window and zoom across to the opposite corner and catch them running out.

You can SMG it and patrol the lower levels and staircases.

My personal favorite thing to do when I was playing MW2 was to climb the ladder and claymore it, camp the top of that building for a few kills, then make my way onto the I beam and eventually move to the corner of the map on the ledge and pick people off below.

I tend to feel safest in the lower level as well.

If things are seem too chaotic above I like to travel from one side to another through the passages with a shotgun so if someone comes around the corner I can usually take them out first. You may be able to get the jump on the other team from behind as well if they're still guarding that side.

Watch out for claymores when coming out though.

Marathon Pro + Lightweight Pro + Ninja Pro + Tac Knife was my favorite setup on Highrise. Back and forth between the spawns via the lower level as the other two guys mentioned. I'd go entire matches without ever setting foot on the roof at the main level. Some people call it cheap, but fuck me if a knife-only class is anything but "cheap."

ONLYUSEmeSITUATIONALAWARENESS is the name of the game.

Why did I even buy BO? This shit is perfect.

Highrise tips (or any other map, really): Know where you can be shot from. Try to keep those to a minimum. Run behind cover in every gunfight if you can. If you have even the slightest idea that an enemy might be behind a certain corner, aim down sights halfway. You'll get the drop on them. More to come later. (or just read the massive essays I wrote a couple months back)

I've fallen in love with the Vector Holographic, it's like an even more mobile ACR. And of course getting longshot kills against snipers is pretty sweet too, I guess.

Here's a Black Ops commentary from the Chuck Norris of COD. He only talks for the first 3 minutes before signing off, but he makes some fair points about the game, and somehow his complete lack of enthusiasm makes it funnier. No different from his live streams, really.

As much as I prefer BO to MW2, I agree that the latter is much more entertaining to play/watch:

Honestly, I've been saturating this thread with videos lately, so I'm going to be more mindful of what I post on here. That being said, I implore any of you looking to get better to check out Muzzafuzza's "How to Pwn" series, in which he discusses every primary weapon in Black Ops and the best way to use each of them. MF is very entertaining, and his commentary quality is among some of the more concise and informative COD guys on YouTube. Considering he's only 19 years old, he's rather good at what he does. My only complaint (and it is a mild one) is that he tends to talk a mile per minute, as he does in today's video, in which he explores the G11:

Thanks to everyone for the posts and links. I'm now finishing matches with a positive (if only slightly so) K/D ratio and I popped my Predator cherry. I'm so hardcore right?

Seriously though, this game is addictively fun, especially when the subconscious stuff kicks in...nothing like taking out a few guys by complete surprise and not even being sure how you knew how to do what you just did.

    Thus endeth the nerdgasm.

    You (thinking): "OHMYGODOHMYGOD KILLITWITHFIRE AHHHHHHH!!!!"

When did a patch come out? I'll be back playing that for sure. By the way, good games last time Maltob, but for the love of fucking god, get the second map pack already.

I like OneRepublic's music, but I can't say I ever thought one of their songs would fit a CoD video. Maybe they can do one with Bonnie Tyler next, eh?

It came out for the PS3 a week ago (3/8 I believe). And believe it or not, MW2 is relatively back to normal. I love it, but there is a definite adjustment after playing BO for so long. Getting dropped with one or two bullets in MW2 as opposed to 3-4 in BO can get frustrating at first.

Plus, not to jinx it, but it seems like a good portion of the toobers and the tac knifers have migrated to BO.

Yeah, it's definitely a different combination. But it seems like most montages these days have fast-paced, loud rock music or something with a hard bass (the WaW Quadtage got it right, but few others out there are synched nearly as well), so it's a nice change of pace.

It's also worth mentioning that The Trout 91 often puts unconventional music in his COD montages. At the very least, he matches the beat of the music to the gameplay on the screen. And he does it rather well.

This is the primary thing that holds me back from returning to MW2. I remember how infuriating it was that all of the guns were so powerful. That gave way to many players utilizing the "spray and pray" method, because as long as just 2 shots are on target (not hard to do with the very forgiving hit boxes of MW2, I should add) the enemy will go down.

Black Ops is just as bad, but in the opposite fashion. 20 shots from an AK-47 to kill a guy on a 3-bar connection? Craziness. I feel like the guns would operate best if their damage performed at some sort of happy-medium between how they are in MW2 and BO.
