The best thing about that scene is that originally, Indie was supposes to fight the guy (they filmed an entire separate scene) but Ford said to Speilberg "Wouldn't it be funnier just to shoot the asshole?"
I'm counting Lonesome Dove as a movie. It's badassery deserves to be included. This is my favorite scene. Skip to three minutes. The embed doesn't seem to want to do it automatically. A close second. Remember it don't do to anger Woodrow F. Call.
I think the legend goes that there was a 3 page fight scene written but Harrison Ford was sick from traveling through the jungle. So they conceived the shooting to get around filming for days.
I don't know how many will have heard of Scum but it’s set in a borstal where the “daddies” run the place and at one point they think they’ve beaten the main character, Carlin, into submission. But then there's a really cool scene where he does some brutal attacks and manages to fight his way to the top. One of Ray Winston’s first films It’s quite a hard film to watch though as there’s a lot of racism and at one point a kid gets raped by some older inmates and then commits suicide.
Another break up scene, this one from Closer. Easily one of my favorite movies. This scene just encapsulates the entire flick. It's ugly, uncomfortable, vicious, and sad. Clive Owen rips Julia Roberts a new one until it fucking explodes in the last half minute. My jaw was on the floor. To me, this was too goddamn real. All the things you don't want to know, but you ask anyway. "Because I'm a fucking caveman!" has etched itself into my lexicon.
Regarding the "dead thread" issue: I don't think so. They are, for the most part, timeless that can be added to if run across. But, if you run across some old post about something from a couple of years ago, and add a "I love this too!" comment, prepare to be vanquished. Use your common sense, and hope that it aligns with the rest of us.
I have always enjoyed the how they used the music from the first dance scene in this final fight scene. I just think it worked really well.
Just two people who've accepted they're in conflict. No moral arguments, no debate, just two people in opposition and whoever wins, wins. My friend took a course on mafia in film and they had an entire class devoted to this scene and the uses of "spectacles of fearsome acts."
IWantSomeJuice posting about a Blade Runner sequel reminded me of this part. I remember the first time I saw it I wasn't sure how to feel. Powerful scene.
Many scenes in this movie would qualify, but the tension in this one is palpable. Those fucking firecrackers, man.
I just wrote about this in the Old Movie Review Thread, but the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a much deeper movie than it's probably given credit for. While not exactly a moment, I think the first six minutes comprising the film's introduction is perfect. You learn immediately that this is no kid's movie, you get a good sense that the story's primary conflict is escalating quickly, and you are introduced to the heroes. Couldn't write it any better, even the music is on point.
Excalibur can be such a hammy, over the top film. But it does have such great moments. Pay attention for the younger Patrick Stewart in this clip.
Totally agree! The way they mutually respect one another, and comment on how they don't know any other way of life except the path they are heading towards.
