Okay, I'm on my phone and can't post a link, but I just heard on the radio (Fox news) that Trump has announced that he's taking hydroxychloroquine "as a preventative measure against the virus."

So, yeah, I'd say he probably just tested positive.

Or, he's just flat out lying. There is absolutely no reason to believe a word he says.

I’d be perfectly fine with him being the guinea pig for this. If it works, great. If it doesn’t, well that’s on him.

what are the chances an unhealthy person taking something with horrible side effects ends up being ok?

The thing is, once you start taking it, you can’t stop.

    Have fun with that Donnie.

    Huh, kinda like cocaine.

The latest report I heard, he said that he's already been taking it for a week.

I wonder why he didn't mention it sooner...

You know, Maybe Trump has been taking this shit for quite a while:

Some actual listed side effects include:
    • yellow eyes or skin
    • feeling that others are watching you or controlling your behavior
    • unusual behavior
    • unusual facial expressions
    • uncontrolled twisting movements of the neck, trunk, arms, or legs
    • severe mood or mental changes
    • feeling, seeing, or hearing things that are not there
    • irritability

What’s a few weeks gonna do?

California is extending their lock down another 3 months.

I don't care what California is doing. I care what the locality I live in is doing. Each place acts and reacts differently based on everything from population density to demographics to politics. I'm going to give it several weeks and see how it plays out, then re-visit the idea. I don't want to wear a face mask while exercising, even though under the current conditions I wouldn't feel comfortable in the gym without one (the state and municipality don't require them currently). So the question I have to ask myself then, is when will I feel safe going into a gym without a mask? That might be in 3-4 weeks from now. That might be come the fall. That might be this time next year. At the minimum, it's several weeks from now, as I absolutely must give it time to play out and see if the COVID-19 rates spike in the area again or if the precautions they're taking are effective.

Safety is the priority, here in this immediate area. The measures that must be taken to achieve safety are different from area to area. For California, apparently that means continued lockdown. For here, that means allowing a gradual re-opening under strict conditions. It would be easy for one answer to be right for everyone, but there isn't any one size fits all.

I *think* this is more on the COVID side than the political side, because in fairness she was expressing genuine concern based on sound medical evidence when she called him “morbidly obese.” I can’t stop laughing.

I don't know. The antibody tests are giving us some fits, because they are wildly unreliable, and some states treat them like gospel.

The way it was explained to me is this:
We go testing and we're trying to find a very precise, specific tool, like a 19mm wrench. The test often comes back reporting there's a 19mm ratchet, an adjustable wrench that happened to be dilated to 19mm when we looked and a bunch of shit that might be a 19mm wrench, or it could be that someone left a bunch of wrenches in the background, and we couldn't zoom in and confirm some of them were 19mm.

However, yes the people that test positive (consistently, ie we re-test for a bad sample, etc.) for Coronavirus produce antibodies, ie there's no known relationship suggesting you must have symptoms to fight it off. Some folks report zero symptoms until they test negative, but that's kind of rare and damned hard to catch (how many people want to get tested when they don't have symptoms AND how many test sites want to test someone who's asymptomatic? Typically just folks who think they have been exposed).

Doesn't that medication (fuck trying to spell that shit at this hour) cause heart issues? Isn't that one of the main complications?

It's looking like FEMA's role in this shit-show will be fully transitioned to HHS in the next few weeks, with the target being "out by Memorial Day". Just in time for hurricane season.
