There’s always some sort of “fad” that kills a few ultra-dummies and then it’s on to the next cool thing. Because YOLO. Don’t be surprised if something like running through wild animal enclosures or playing roller hockey on an expressway for clicks become new fads.
I am currently on the Texas coast, with a few immediate family members. Went to the beach with large canopies, placed our trucks so no one could get near us. Had to ask some people not to get so close. Most were cool about it. but thousands of people there flat didn’t give a fuck. The beach is about a mile long or so, and we figured there were at least 8-10k people there. Absolutely fucking nuts. More packed than I’ve ever seen it. Cops who were there I assume to enforce the rules were sitting in their vehicles looking at their phones or computers or whatever. I ran to CVS for coffee and got weird looks because I was the only one in there wearing a mask. good job America, you killed yourself
A weekly podcast by Dr. Osterholm for anyone who is interested. https://www.cidrap.umn.edu/covid-19/podcasts-webinars/episode-15
Florida has reported 15,500 new cases in the past 24 hours. Ontario has 130. Ontario has three quarters the population of Florida. You know what that means, right? You guessed it: fake news. Even when Fox confirms it, too. These hick conspiracy theorists will be the death of you all.
Has it been definitively determined that antibodies either don't work at all or only work for 4 months? Edit: Also, is it still believed that this is a novel corona virus? And infection rates are skyrocketing as number of tests conducted go up, what is current assumed IFR?
No it has not. Yes. Infection rates are skyrocketing, the percentage of tests returned as positive (ie, controlling for the increased testing) is skyrocketing as well. Current IFR depends on where you're calculating it (ie, Florida's is higher/different than Delaware, or Dade county is different than Harris county).
Thankfully there aren't any more confirmed cases that we know of as the people who run the joint haven't been forthcoming with information. Tokyo's cases continue to climb, and it's the two nightlife hotspots that are the real problem. Shinjuku, where the Japanese youngins party, and Shibuya, where all the filthy foreign trash parties. One thing that has been nice is that whitey has been starting to wear their masks more often. With the heat and humidity hitting though, people are doing the little nose peek.
Certainly see a much higher compliance rate around me since our county decided to mandate them and stores are requiring them more on their own volition. I work in a terribly unconditioned warehouse. Once the outside temps get above 80 our workspace becomes a caldron. I can't use industrial fans because Im on the phone all day. If I couldnt put my mask down to my nose Id quit. Im a knuckle dragging mouth breather anyway.
The fine line of perfectly adjusting one’s mask so it doesn’t fog up one’s safety glasses is thinner than a gnat’s cock. Patience and finesse are required. I’m used to working in various masks, from welding to chemical spraying. I could wear one of these little cloth things all day and it would never bother me in the least. But they bother people not used to them. People like OTHER PEOPLE in my household who will go unnamed get downright claustrophobic after 30 seconds of wearing one. I keep saying “Stop holding your breath. They can’t see you. Breathe as deep as you want.” Picture that awful five minutes of your life when you get your orthodontic moulds casted for braces. That panic.
I'm pretty sure my neighbor and I were yelled at by a passing car for wearing masks while having a visit on her front porch. This town is the hotspot in the state. Small town with more cases than the big cities. With an attitude like that it's no wonder.
“STOP BEING CONSIDERATE, ASSHOLES!!!” You should set up a water balloon slingshot on your porch and fill it with loose change and wood screws for when they heckle. In a perfect world....
I'd like to ask a proud non-mask wearer why they choose to be assholes to people who do. It's one thing to be a dumbass and you keep your dumb opinion to yourself. It's quite another to be a dumbass and you act like a rude piece of shit to strangers who are doing literally the least they could do during a pandemic.
Because they feel called out. Basic human decency is essentially a subtweet to people who are pieces of shit.
What pieces of shit. https://www.bbc.com/news/amp/world-us-canada-53392817 Fauci is making the White House look bad, so they’re going after him.
I'm worried the onion might be predicting the future again https://www.theonion.com/trump-administration-plants-137-000-corpses-in-fauci-s-1844367647
Rude peices of shit gonna rude. I live in a super conservative and rural area. Facemasks have been politicized. I wear a mask, therefore I am a lib, therefore they can shout obscenities at me as they drive past. Same reason they roll coal around here. Anything to own the libs. Theres a lot of good things around here. People work hard, they are family oriented, they are great neighbors. But good God the mainstream news outlets and conservativetalk radio have melted people's brains and plays on the worst facets of human tribalism. A mask signifies that I am on the wrong team.
Same thing here. There is a good amount of mask wearing, but a lot of lazy masks under the nose or even hanging under the chin. Meanwhile, I keep in regular contact with my former classmates who work in several of the local hospitals. Currently, Houston Methodist has almost 1,000 COVID patients admitted. Our major county hospital is trying to export patients to the Dallas area due to lack of space. Everything is politicized because it's all being presented through a lens of how conservatives feel it makes Trump look. To wear a mask means they disagree with Trump on something and there can be no daylight between them and dear leader.
Last week the governor reinstated the mask requirement so I saw more people wearing them entering home depot but generally people do not wear them or think they are important. We are the current hotspot in the state. We also have the worst ratio of beds to population with 50 hospital beds for a population of 77, xxx. The governor is having a 250 bed emergency hospital set up in Salem. We are about to get real fucked. And while all this is popping off, there's tents set up all around town with ''Recall Kate Brown '' petitions. Can we get real here for a sec?
With seeing how the virus is surging since after the shut down (ya know, the 2 weeks that turned into 3 months) I wonder how much it would've mattered if Trump did shut down the country immediately? With how contagious this virus is, it seems that a case explosion was almost inevitable. Where do we go from here? Keep shutting the economy down (they already are in California), reopening until the next wave of cases, shut down again and repeat until we have herd immunity? I just don't see how that's feasible without cratering the economy for the next decade. The wife's daughter called today in a panic as she just found out that her work will be shutting down again. She had enough in savings to carry her through the last shut down but a low wage worker can't work for one month on, three months off. Our shops Q2 sales were 33% less than Q1. Business has picked up quite a bit in the last month but if we have another 3 month shutdown, we're gonna be hurting. I didn't fact check this but in June, 30% of Americans were either late or missed their housing payment. https://www.apartmentlist.com/research/june-housing-payments I'm kind of rambling now, but how does this not turn into a economic black hole?
https://www.cnbc.com/2020/07/13/who...antibodies-may-wane-after-several-months.html The studies are happening from the looks of it. The WHO doesn't sound very positive about this; the media isn't into good news at all, so I'm relying on the direct quotes. It will be an interesting world to live in getting injections every two to three months. Even more interesting when people connect the dots and realize this is now a fact of life......forever.
