Hub's work is allowing people with positive test results to return after 2 days, allowing people to work with a fever due to ''medication changes,'' and halted the periodic company wide testing initiative due to reasons. This town currently has a 17% positive rate after a randomized survey was completed and people still won't wear masks. I am never going to be able to leave the house.

    So. Much. This.

I have to listen to people constantly bitching about Covid measures our offices take. I can't tell you how many times I heard last week "My appointment in April was cancelled because of the virus, now that it's over I want to reschedule."

    "Over."

These dumb asses think the danger has passed, they're also mainly in TX, FL and CA...all three states that are setting record death tolls daily. I really wish I could punch people through the phone.

florida is absolutely fucked. We went to get the kiddos ice cream takeout from a place that multiple people have told us is very safe, monitors people coming in, refuses those without masks etc. Awesome, get out of the house between rain bands, grab some ice cream and get back in the car.

except it’s in the middle of a tourist area, and even though there are signs every 20 yards saying masks required inside and outside (it gets that packed outside) practically no one was wearing masks outdoors. Getting VERY close to one another. All the benches and outdoor seating was full of people elbow to elbow. We got out of the car, got ice cream, and got the fuck outta dodge in a hurry. Took one idiot with covid there to spread it to everyone they way they were walking around, intermingling, just not giving a fuck.

my wife is currently having a major anxiety attack. I don’t blame her.

    People are fucking stupid y’all

When I came home yesterday I saw 5 kids hopping out of a car at the neighbor's house with pillows and sleeping bags. Obviously a sleep over. No masks.

Then another car pulled up and off loaded another 3 kids, once again no masks.

Good thing the pandemic is over. Fucking idiots.

I went to check my mail earlier and one of the neighbors was clearly having a party. There were cars parked all over the cul-de-sac, with 3 parked right in the middle of it. In the 2.5 years that I have lived here I don't think that I've ever seen the cul-de-sac full.

I just don't get it. I hope that the psycho old lady who lives in the neighborhood and is always threatening to call code enforcement on people gives them shit for it.

Well, it’s controlled by sociopaths and has a legitimate stupid person as mayor, so this should surprise nobody. Maybe people should stop acting like it’s awesome to go there and travel elsewhere.

So has he named the source yet? Or will he take it to his grave because a lot of people are going to want to know, and they aren’t going to be friendly about getting it.

I went to Costco and it's amazing how dudes can't seem to get the concept of the "mask goes over your nose and mouth".

This is the dumbest form of protest a simple requirement. God people suck.

But the question is what, over the course of this pandemic, would suggest people are capable of not being stupid about this?

Most of the people posting in this thread.

I just don’t understand the hostility it brings out. We all we dealt a shit sandwich in our own way with this. Why scream at strangers? Why attack or shame them, regardless of what side you take? People get knocked out of their comfort zone in the slightest way and they get so soft. Look at this lunacy:

....it’s like nowadays people seem to think the world is their own little high school cafeteria, where they just get to walk up and assault people they find different.

If more people got their ass beat for talking shit this wouldn’t happen. But instead of just taking a whooping and being like “well ok, I probably deserved that” everyone is now so lawyer happy that they’re afraid of getting sued. So what’s taken the place of ass beatings is public shaming, “cancel culture,” doxxing etc.

Remove a world in which you can’t fight with your fists, you get people taking video to fight with keyboards later. I don’t like it, but use what’s given to you. People will shape up when the consequences of their actions start becoming more severe and immediate than the perceived benefit of taking those actions.

Around here I see nearly 100% mask compliance in stores, and of the very few that I see without a mask, I can't recall any of them being within 6' of another person. Sure, I only go to the grocery store, the doctors office, a small hardware store, NAPA auto parts, a gas station and a boat dealership.

In outdoor situations, like beaches on the lake here, people don't wear masks, but they aren't super close or doing other things likely to transmit the virus in that setting.

I'm not seeing much stupidity, but perhaps that's because I don't go to places with high concentrations of stupidity.

A large number of the people posting in this thread are posting lunacy from the general public.

I agree that a lot of things could be done safely. But they won't be. And that's going to kill and maim a lot of people.

I think it's utter stupidity that schools are going back. And not because @Fiveslide is sending his kid back with a mask and careful education to a small special-needs class. It's because the general population in the country has repeatedly proven themselves to be incapable of good decision making in this scenario.

And frankly, I think some specific communities will be more successful - it may be that certain locales are dealing better, following the guidelines better. But overall, people can't be trusted to make good choices, and the result of bad choices in this context can be crippling or killing innocent bystanders. Let alone the fact that we're actually believing that children will effectively and universally socially distance from each other, keep their masks on, not engage in risky behaviors, etc., over a prolonged period of time. The same kids that will insert sharp objects into their nose, or lick the floor on a dare. The same teenagers who are starting to learn about sexual feelings and emotional connections and who will just die if they can't be with the object of their desire. It's a herculean effort to get these people to make good choices on a normal basis, let alone when we're asking them to do bizarre and abnormal things like stay 6' apart.

In all of these cases (parents, kids of all ages, school workers), it takes so few people making bad choices to cause chain reactions; just two kids making one bad choice together can spread to entire families and beyond.

I simply see no evidence that this has a chance of succeeding.

Sending kids back is stupid. Because they are KIDS. They are programmed to make mistakes, misbehave, rebel, disobey. I don’t see plexiglass shields being installed on every classroom desk.

And then you have have special ed kids. They don’t have to wear a mask. Okay, but they’re also far more susceptible to being careless or catching something. And they’re already requiring extra care.

This is going to a NIGHTMARE YEAR for parents, kids and especially teachers. And speaking of teachers despite and this added stress and work they aren’t getting paid extra, this isn’t fair to them and it isn’t fair to our kids.

Is anyone else not convinced when people cite statistics showing an increased suicide and drug overdose rate when pertaining to children going or not going to school?

Bus driver here. The one thing I am certain of when it comes to going back to work next month is that my job will not be the relatively stress free gig that I enjoyed last year. Last Summer I was fine with returning to work. Now, I'm getting more and more anxious for a multitude of reasons.

    Serious question:
Anyone have resources on excess mortality? Data especially nationwide or by state?

The question isnt open or reopen, its "how expensive, painful and risky is it to reopen?" And "what is the benefit or requirement to opening that we couldn't do remote?"

Most schools don't have extra funding for the PPE and cleaning.

Most schools are going to have a hard time staffing for anyone that goes down.

Most schools have no idea how to even assess this risk, from the perspective of:
how likely is it that we have an outbreak over the school year?
What are the impacts on kids vs. Adults?

The benefit for most counties is the parents can theoretically get to work. The schools are in a tough spot because the higher level officials want them open, due to the economy, but the parents and teachers have serious and unaddressed concerns on "can I keep my kids safe there?"

Now Dipshit is attacking Dr. Birx.

You know, in a couple years when the books come out about the administration's (mis)handling of this pandemic it's going to make for some very interesting and anger inducing reading.

Assuming we're alive to see it.
