I watched a dude get bounced from a deli last week. Guy at the door was taking absolutely no shit, and literally fifteen seconds of minor grumbling was enough for doorman to cancel this guy's online order and tell him to GTFO. To be fair this deli didn't take shit before corona; if you were on your phone when they called your number they'd just skip you and send you to the back of the line.
going into the grocery store last week I passed a lady who was yelling at some poor teenage employee about her not having to wear a mask and ADA and all that. I bolted away when I heard him calmly, and with a hint of sarcasm reply "yes ma'am, have you considered our free curbside pickup to accommodate your needs?" Couldn't contain my laughter anymore. I'm certain if not for the mask concealing his smirk she would have physically assaulted him. Hell she probably did for all I know. I got out of there before she turned her anger toward my cackling laughter, as much as I wanted to watch the train wreck.
It's seems to me that people are becoming more accepting of the new "Normal". Before I schedule anyone to come in, reschedule their appointment, or confirm their appointment I have to ask Covid screening questions. The first couple of months there was a lot of push back and irritation. I flat out cancelled a few people's appointments for refusing to answer the questions. Hey look! You're a defiant asshole! Now you're a defiant asshole without an dental appointment. How's that being an asshole thing working out for you? The past 2 months or so I don't think I've had a single person squawk about the questions.
The mask is a godsend for when I’m grinning at these types. I’m sure my eyes indicate I’m enjoying myself but it’s less confrontational. I think these people believe “the customer is always right” and are confused now that there’s pushback on that notion.
A buddy of mine said he went to one of his regular hang outs this week and was ridiculed by the other patrons for wearing his mask. He explained that he wasn’t “afraid” of anything, he was wearing it more so the owner of the bar didn’t get in trouble. When even she gave him shit, he decided he didn’t deserve that treatment and left. Another local place blacked out their windows so you can’t see in where presumably no one is wearing a mask. Oh, today’s update from son’s college: Another 29 for a total of 56 this week on campus. They’ve begun suspending students found to be hosting these parties. They haven’t been there two weeks for Christ’s sake.
SUNY Oneonta closed down all in-person classes for the next two weeks after they hit 105 cases today. That's 105 new cases in a week. Thank God our son stayed here to do his classes online, we'd have been driving out there to get him by now.
https://mobile.twitter.com/THEHermanCain/status/1300211456126803968 I honestly don't have words to describe the insane intersection of shamelessness, morbidness, and ironic hilarity that is this tweet.
To everyone here, the post is erased but one one lately from the recently dead Hernan Cain’s account, stating conspiracy thirties about COVID’s fatality rate. ....it’s like tweeting on a Muppet Show account about how pneumonia shouldn’t be taken seriously.
This morning I see the CDC released a new report about Covid deaths and co-morbidities:https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/...9tOHPGAHWFVO3DfslkJ0KsDEPQpWmPbKtp6EsoVV2Qs1Q So of course those who think it's all a hoax are trumpeting how this confirms that the virus is not as dangerous, it's all bullshit, etc. There's been a lot of course changes since the White House changed how the CDC reports and does things last month. So I can't help but wonder if this is more propaganda to benefit someone's re-election chances. I feel like we knew more about this damn disease in the early months, before it became so politicized and polarizing.
Some talking heads on the radio were going on about this this morning. They were trying to say that because most of the people who died had an underlying condition, it’s not a big deal after all. Um, LOTS of people have underlying conditions because our healthcare system blows and many people just don’t have the resources or education or both to take great care of themselves. So it’s still killing people. Apparently there’s a big protest at Bandimere Speedway this weekend to stick it to our Governor Polis. I’m sure it’ll be full of healthy non underlying condition having specimens.
I’ve reached a stage where I don’t even try to point out the flaws when people tell me they think Covid is all a hoax. I just stare at them blankly, and don’t engage. Fuck it, you wanna ignore it, dismiss it, be my guest. But don’t expect sympathy if you or someone you live ends up sick or dead from it.
The sounds like a FANTASTIC approach that more businesses should start impersonating: “fall in line with the smart people, or fuck off. And don’t be polite to them, either: equal their animosity in every way to show then what pathetic, ignorant children they are.
My friend (whose store I’m helping at) just sent an email out to us basically stating this for future problem children. We have mail order, curbside service and in store shopping. If you can’t cooperate, go elsewhere. Her business is through the roof so she doesn’t need these assholes’ money.
That’s what needs to happen across the board, assholes need to be treated as such and there will eventually be less such behavior. At our club we’ve told the bartenders explicitly: If someone is refusing to abide by the rules we have to operate under, cut them off immediately. Doesn’t matter who they are or how long they’ve been a member, they’re done. People still bitch about having to sign in for contact tracing. They say we’re the only place that’s doing it. Good, we’re doing what we’re supposed to!
I have high risk conditions for lots of illness pre-covid. I also have a legit issue that means I could get away with not wearing a mask if I was crazy enough to play that card. I don't care if the whole world wears masks, I am not going into any place of business I don't absolutely have to (and that has been basically zero for 5 months- my doctor doesn't even want me in the office). I am EXTREMELY happy that places that do not normally do curbside pickup/mail delivery now offer it. People who are puffing around talking about ADA are not people who normally avoid every other germ out there and hunker down and hide from this virus.
Imagine thinking that all these comorbidities, nationwide, chose this exact time to, all at once, turn fatal and kill their hosts. Coincidence!
I mean, lots of people have underlying conditions because they simply have chronic/undiagnosed/incurable diseases. These fuckers think it doesn't count when COVID-19 kills someone with heart disease just because it gets labeled as a "comorbidity." Never mind that most of these comorbidities are not fatal and would result in a relatively normal quality of life.
But how is this even properly concluded on without each individual case being reviewed by a medical examiner? Some are not fatal, but heart disease, for example, kills far more people annually in the US than COVID-19 has so far.
Because they are doing the science themselves, and don't need a medical examiner to conclude what they are seeing on a daily basis. https://www.acc.org/latest-in-cardiology/features/accs-coronavirus-disease-2019-covid-19-hub#sort=@fcommonsortdate90022 descending Read the papers... there is a huge negative impact to heart disease from COVID. A lot of people are living with heart disease, but are dying when COVID is added to the mix.
