https://twitter.com/ASlavitt/status/1301996518421999617 Shitty behavior from people is why we'll never get this under control without enforcement of some type. To paraphrase a bit Chris Rock did, "I don't agree with what China did, but I understand." And don't kid yourselves, this isn't something that only happens here in the US.
Meanwhile in Wuhan: https://www.cnn.com/2020/08/18/asia/wuhan-water-park-party-intl-hnk/index.html I do share your concerns; what the Chinese and Koreans did to get their cases down goes MILES beyond what any freedom lovin' Murican could tolerate. We throw this big a tantrum over masks, cellphone app tracking is completely out of the question. And yet...
I mean we do have cell phone tracking. They did it with the Miami spring breakers and the Sturgis folk. Count me as still skeptical China had a good handle on it and numbers that were above reproach.
You mean you can get back to normal if you push to eradicate the virus? We would have lost our minds if we did what New Zealand and Australia did/are currently doing. But hey, everyone who has died was either old or fat so fuck em apparently. It's a disgrace.
Oh I think their numbers are probably bunk but they did in fact get it under control in the end. Which is more than you can say for us.
The post we're both replying to features a tale of college students refusing to use contact tracing, because they have the choice. Our own phones have a new COVID feature that is optional. There is nothing in our response that compares to the control measures those countries have taken.
Saw this article in my feed last week. It explains the Bradykinin hypothesis which explains why a respiratory illness has such an effect on the circulatory system A Supercomputer Analyzed Covid-19 — and an Interesting New Theory Has Emerged
That is an incredibly interesting article... thanks for posting it. It makes it sound like COVID-19 is mostly a vascular illness that just happens to be caught via the respiratory system... it causes everything to leak, then gel up.
Amazing. If true, there are already approved meds on the market that can treat this, much better than the respiratory therapies they are doing now.
Well I'm pretty sure a few of my in-laws are gonna die from either their own stupidity, or COVID, depending on how the doctor wants to list the cause of death. We were gonna meet them at the lake. Everyone had been extremely safe (we thought) until right as we were getting ready to leave, we get a text from my sister in law, who is pregnant, who found out that a few of the cousins who showed up there had gone bar hopping with people who had since tested positive. And the wife of one of the cousins was actively feeling ill and running a fever. But she pinkie swore it wasn't covid, because that's how it works. Also they didn't tell anyone about what they did or with whom until they were already there. Among those people there were my mother and father in law, both old and the mother in law very overweight and unhealthy. The house belongs to the 85 year old grandmother who is convinced this is a liberal hoax. Mother of the cousins lives with her boyfriend who has survived three heart attacks. Wife who was running a fever had visited her elderly and ill father that day. We didn't go because fuck them, and got roundly ridiculed because of it. Pregnant sister in law and husband stayed home as well. In laws don't understand why we won't let them around our family for at least the next two weeks. I wouldn't believe this level of stupidity exist unless I saw it with my own eyes. If they die, I do not have sympathy. They did it to themselves.
You have my condolences. I'm becoming more and more convinced that a combination of stupidity and social media will eventually be the end of humanity.
I've been saying for years that I think social media is having a net negative effect on the world. COVID and Trump have done nothing but reinforce that belief.
Right? I thought all the conspiracies floating around on social media were bad before. But holy shit, this year has went turbo with them.
I actually think there's gonna be a massive pushback against social media. Right now people are relying on it to feel like they're staying connected and having some kind of social connection when their world is turned upside down and they're stuck at home or at least in a smaller physical area. But I also think this massive focus on social media right now is showing people how truly bad it is, and once the doors to everything open back up again it's gonna be kicked to the curb pretty quick. Just look at the number of people who only get their news from what they see on facebook. By way of immediate example, my mother in law is convinced that she is not at risk for COVID because she's an idiot, and all she reads and shares on FB are all these "hoaxvirus-19" things so she thinks it's not as bad as it is. And now she was most likely in the presence of someone who does have it, and stayed with them for two days, so the stats aren't in her favor that she will survive. You think people won't see that kind of behavior and realize that the mistakes that killed them are mistakes not to be repeated?
Nah... stupid people are feeling smart, empowered, and people just like them are listening to and agreeing with them. That's a powerful drug... and it's not going away any time soon. You literally have stupid soccer moms that think that their opinions on COVID are just as valid as world-class scientists. "Why are we not at the table for these discussions and have a say in this?" "Because you're a fucking moron on the subject and NOTHING you can say has any fucking merit. At all."
We're at 190K dead and huge swaths of people in the US keep buying into nonsense. If it gets to a million deaths maybe people start waking up. MAYBE. You can show people facts and they point blank dismiss it because they don't want to admit they were wrong.
I went to an outdoor cook out at my brother in laws house today. I do not like my wife’s family. I only go because my kids enjoy seeing them. I noticed my wife’s brother hadn’t had a hair cut in a while. Asked what’s going on. He explained that he refused to get a hair cut because they make you wear a mask. And that’s too much government control. I was then treated to a lecture. About the governement and the media being in Kahoots to take over our lives. I don’t think we will be going back to their house for a while.
