thats what happens when people think having a degree or extra education makes them smart and that their opinion is worth something. What you’re seeing right now is people who should be bright on paper, being killed by their own stupidity.

I’m having to help setup a funeral/memorial thingy for a friend who just lost his wife. Right now the laws are no gatherings of 10 or more people, even if it’s outside, even if it’s family. Know how many people are claiming those laws are just suggestions and that I don’t really have to follow them, that we’re making a big deal out of it and nothing will happen?

this is the second person I know who has died in less than a week by the way. Not confirmed covid-related, but it hasn’t been ruled out that they got covid and that pushed them out the door either. I’ve lost all patience for anyone who says wearing a mask isn’t necessary.

A local church had an outbreak so the county did testing on 40 people. According to the county executive over 50% tested positive. And allegedly the church isn’t being cooperative with contact tracing attempts by the county.

In other news, a co-worker started on a “it’s all bullshit, the Democrats trying to kill the economy, etc.” So rather than argue, I pointed out our governor is a Democrat, who what’s the motive to make oneself look bad.”

“Well I don’t know, but they are.”

    Okey dokey then.

Ontario has been in love hundreds and even into the double digits for new cases for a while now.

Today we just broke 200 for the first time since July 21st and before that it was June 29th before we had a 200+ day.

The reporting trend isn't looking good.

    https://covid-19.ontario.ca/data

And on Monday all of the schools are opening up instead of a scattering of schools.

This is going to keep happening until the new year.

Dudes in hazmat suits were spraying our office, and shut down an entire wing of our office. We were told they were just cleaning.

50/50 whether or not I quit this job over this.

Safe bet Fema spreads covid to survivors will be in the headlines in the next week or so.

We have had one responder refuse testing after getting sick in a branch office, throwing them a curve ball.

Its not a shit show, it's a caca extravaganza.

Louisiana, has the highest per capita rate in the US and the governor just went to phase 3 today.

    Live in NY, right?

Yeah, shouldn't pick on the Governor, the media says he is a shining star of the COVID-19 breakout. Just look at all his confirmed kills on the front side of this sending the COVID patients to chill with the elderly and consider how NY-centric the media is in general. Nothing snowballed from there, did it?

What was the logic behind sending elderly covid to nursing homes? Was it because they'd be in a controlled environment with medical care immediately available, as opposed to just being sent home? I mean they had to go somewhere, to make room for incoming cases yeah?

Was it a bad beat? Maybe, though communicable virus mixed with elderly isn't exactly a hidden secret as a bad idea.

But since we all seem to be in the business of Monday morning-quarterbacking the fuck out of everyone, to the point books are being written about it, let's not allow anyone the opportunity of being immune, shall we?

About that "excess mortality" stat: I'm gonna start being more aggressive toward people who don't believe it. Over the past 2 weeks, it's now up to 4 people I know who have died. Fortunately only one of them I was really close with (the one I did CPR on to revive right before last thanksgiving). Including the last month, it's been 5, only one of which was to COVID.

The other 4 died in the hospital, where care and resources were exceptionally thin. When I was in neurological intensive care for my brain tumor, I had one nurse assigned to my room, and only my room, though they said they could go to a 1:2 ratio if something happened and they were really desperate. Right now it's 1:4 to 1:6 depending on the hospital, from what I've heard from a friend who is a nurse. People are absolutely dying because of a lack of resources. Not to say that these people I know wouldn't have eventually died anyway, but their death and especially quality of care toward the end certainly expedited it. One is putting off the funeral indefinitely, another scheduled the ceremony for the day after restrictions are supposed to expire (or renew) which limits the group size to 10 people and it just hoping we can get together in a very spaced area. No clue what the other ones are doing. Death is tortuous on families anyway, and the restrictions around their grieving process has only made it worse.

Last week my wife and I got a life insurance policy on both of us, which at least gives us some peace of mind for our kiddos. Anyone who thinks this shit isn't real, or is being exaggerated, can go suck a crooked dick.

Im not sure what the fuck the idea was but 7/10 deaths in ohio were nursing home related, 40 percent of the country last I heard. As just a logically thinking rube Id assume our government overseers would have a plan more along the lines of, hermetically seal the most vulnerable off in the confined spaces they live in or send them all home to family so one sick geezer doesnt multiple into 180. With the results we've seen they had zero plan for the elderly or their plan failed spectacularly.

That was an epic fuck up, no argument here, but I understand from a certain point of view.

When I was a paramedic, we’d occasionally have to deal with Mass Casualty Incidents ( MCI ) where you have more patients than resources. At that point, you have to make life or death decisions in the fog of war and the normal protocols won’t work. Some of those incidents still give me nightmares, 20 years later.

But what was worse than that was afterward, when co-workers who were never there would ask why you did this or didn’t do that. Then there were monthly QI meetings where people who rarely, if ever, “worked the street” determined if you did the right thing or not. More than once I got thrown under the bus only to have someone like our medical director or the hospital trauma coordinator defend my actions.

What I’m saying is, I understand all too well that hindsight is 20/20. It’s easy to be critical when we’re not in the position to make decisions with little time to make them. So as I said, yes, it was a poor decision. But as mush as I dislike Cuomo, he took the initiative to make a decision. Unlike the fucktard at 1600 Penna. Ave.

people also don’t understand comparative damage. Real life example: lady I had to resuscitate, I rolled her over onto her left side (recovery position) so she wouldn’t throw up in her mouth and it was easier on her heart. Issue was she was over 400 lbs so that wasn’t easy, and I destroyed my back in the process trying to move this essentially sand bag at that point. I got shit on after because apparently she had a broken arm on that side and it could have caused her pain. Yeah, well I didn’t care about that because I was focused on, you know, trying to keep her alive.

sometimes time is more important than the 100% accuracy of the decisions. I could have put a pillow down or something for her arm (if I even knew) but all of my attention was trying to keep her alive, and that required rapid decisions in quick succession that I had to make exactly correct. You have all the time in the world after the fact to think through things and with better science, a luxury that would be nice for those making the decisions with limited knowledge at the time.

Our son's first week of school is in the books. He's a little mask-wearing, learning savant. He is thriving in this environment. Only two other students in his class, the teacher says all of them are doing well, keeping appropriate distance from each other after a little redirecting on day one. I couldn't be happier with situation right now.

He needed to be in school and I'm thrilled with the results so far.

I'm not seeing any kids without masks at drop off, but I don't know what the neuro-typical kids are doing in their class, how much of a struggle for them the mask thing may be.

NY was at the forefront of taking action, this is all Trump's fault.

With de Blasio taking his cue from Trump's narrative this is all Trump's fault.

With experts saying that the virus shouldn't have gotten into the general population if only the systems and processes that were already established had been actually enacted back in January yes this is all Trump's fault.

Why not drag up some pictures from People of Walmart to defend Trump.

I'm sure your whataboutism will get to that level the closer we get to Nov 3rd.

I'm sure we can just blame Obama for being so public about setting up that pandemic task-force if only tRump hadn't seen it as a part of Obama's legacy that he had to destroy then it could have done its job.

The first death in the United States was February 29th. He knew this virus was deadlier than the flu and how easily it spread when he told Bob Woodward on February 7th. Who knows how long he sat on that information before he spoke to Woodward about it.

In fact, when the CDC basically said a massive outbreak was inevitable on February 25th, the next day at his daily briefing, he said that he didn't believe it was, despite knowing how easily it was going to spread and knowing how much deadlier it was than the flu.

He has failed every single American and every country that looks to America for leadership.

Obama wasn't perfect, but I do know that he wouldn't have fucked this up anywhere close the current president did. Everything that has been missed or cancelled is the result of the decisions a spoiled brat of a president who cares more about the markets than he does about the citizens he swore to protect.

I cannot understand why someone who cares so little about anybody but himself, doesn't plan anything past his next greasy bowel movement and has been a spectacular failure at not only this, but basically everything that didn't come from coasting on other people's work, gets the amount of support that he does.

Just so I'm clear here, y'all are defending de Blasio and his "Go out and interact with other people" tweet on March 2nd?

I get that y'all hate Trump, but do you honestly believe de Blasio gave the best advice?

I honestly don't give a damn about the politics involved with Covid, it's a fucked up situation and some people want to turn it into a partisan issue. Good for you I guess. You're not helping anything.

I don’t think it’s fair for you to say that we are making it a partisan issue when the actual president knew exactly how bad the virus was and purposely downplayed it because he didn’t want to look bad.

I don’t think anyone here is defending deblasio because he’s a shit mayor. Cities like New York are quite difficult to contain a virus because it’s a massive pile of people all sharing space.

Had Trump displayed any sort of leadership in any capacity when this thing started, we wouldn’t have 200,000 dead. His excuse that he didn’t want to create panic is pure horeshit because his entire campaign right now is designed to create panic among white people that scary black and brown people are coming to ruin their neighborhoods and lower their property values.

This virus shouldn’t be a partisan issue. In fact, if people only rallied together like they did post 9/11, things would look quite different. Instead, you have this super weird, belligerent, conspiracy minded group of people who think it’s still a hoax.

I don't think the timeline supports this statement at all. Look, I'm not some giant Trump fanboy, but you're reaching on this one.

On December 31, China officials report a cluster of pneumonia cases in Wuhan

On January 17 the CDC said person to person transmission was not confirmed, but a possibility. It is believed the virus came back with two individuals between the 13th and 15th. The spouse of one of those people is confirmed to have the virus on the 30th, this was thought to be the first known case of local transmission, until later.

The US declared a health emergency with only 7 known cases on our soil. However there is evidence the virus was in the US and had already killed 9 people before China even announced its cluster of pneumonia. This cat was out of the bag before we even knew about it.

The US enacted travel restrictions on the February 2.

Tell me, what experts are saying this could have been kept out of the general population by US systems and processes? I really think you just made up these experts, though.

I quoted the experts in this thread.
