They’re cancelling life. The grocery stores are shuttering and we will be forced into being feudal serfs. Nett really has a leg up if the shit goes down given our climate. He has grow lights, garden space, a four-wheel drive vehicle, guns AND the training to shoot them straight. He’s practically The Master of his corner of the city already.
I really wish I hadn’t been so cautious in my life, and had just gone ahead and bought one of those red toilet night lights. So many regrets...
NHL: season’s cancelled. Canadian scientists: hold on a sec... https://globalnews.ca/news/6671901/coronavirus-canadian-company-covid-19-vaccine-candidate/
Here's how stupid some people are surrounding this whole thing: My brother-in-law works at a hospital that had a patient tested and confirmed for the virus. My BiL had absolutely no interaction with this person at all; just happened to be at his building. Now, my step-sister's (his wife) mother is being told she cannot come into work for two weeks because... reasons? My BiL hasn't even spoken, let alone come in contact with his mother-in-law in over two weeks.
Look, I get that people are going to stock up on shit at the supermarket, but that's no reason to abandon civilization. ENFORCE THE EXPRESS LINE RULES. I'M JUST TRYING TO GET A GALLON OF MILK AND GET HOME. FIFTEEN ITEMS MAXIMUM YOU GOD DAMN KARENS.
All the schools around here are being closed until April 14th. People are losing their minds. That is, the people who haven’t already lost their minds and cleared grocery store out like a swarm of locusts. If nothing else, this is a really interesting thing to sit back and watch.
The thing that is going to frustrate me to no end is that if the preventive measures work as intended, the severity of the outbreak will be greatly reduced, and it'll look like "no big deal." People will then mock the measures taken, saying it was an overreaction, and the next time we need them they'll be ignored because "remember coronavirus?" It's the same fundamental problem that climate change faces, except we're not even willing to give it a go the first time around for climate change.
Maybe Im just a hypochondriac but we've had shitty weather for the past few days and I feel like shit. Now ever pang and twinge in my throat has me worried. Feel a head change like a cold's coming on, then eat and feel fine again. Fucking over thinking everything now. Bleeeeghh. I know Ill be taking the "Trump is going to have the blood of 4-8 million dead on his hands" types a lot less serious next time if this peters out. The doomers overreaction and hysteria do a lot more damage to the cause than the reasonable precautions.
Flights are stupid cheap right now. Round trip for 2 to NYC from Atlanta for under $100? So many options, I’m drowning in options. Hawaii or NYC?
Local grocery store is literally out. Of everything. The closest city with a confirmed case is about 2 hours away.
I’d flip a coin with those choices, I want to visit both. However keep in mind: If you are concerned at all with getting sick, flying is probably the last thing you want to do. Airports may be deader than usual, but you’re still mixing with the entire world at airports, and whatever they bring with them.
If you’re concerned about “cheap,” I wouldn’t do Hawaii. When I was there over thanksgiving a half gallon of milk was like $8. Can’t imagine what toilet paper goes for now.
