This is the same guy that was out wining and dining with obviously zero safety protocols being observed right? Said watching a band live was ok if you didnt pay for ticket to see them and they were just ambient music? Sometimes the stupid hurts.

I took our son to work and then had to drop some groceries off to my cousin who’s quarantined and her husband is in the hospital with Covid. I stopped for gas and she texted me to say another of our cousins died today after a couple weeks in the hospital for, you guessed it, Covid.

We weren’t too close, he was kind of an ass. But still he was family.

Between him and the mayor of Las Vegas... not a lot of logic being promoted out there.

It’s a good thing guys like toytoy plan ahead. I can only assume he has the same basement as Burt Gummer.

Considering the daily positivity rate line in Canada essentially went vertical after their Thanksgiving, November and December here are going to be brutal.

That is true. And people are being bitchy and defiant about it here which is a mean mix. I’m hoping cold weather and a record sale of video game systems can keep people the fuck home, or at least mixing far less.

Yep. Even though we were doing pretty well, for the most part, we fucked up big time.

And people are getting pissy. And tired. And giving less of a shit more than ever.

Christmas is going to be a fucking culling.

Meanwhile me and ours are still 100% “stay the fuck away from people” and concentrating on doing fun stuff alone.

Sending students back to school was a huge mistake. The cops here are breaking up multiple 100+ person parties every weekend. With over 30 colleges in this city, we never stood a chance.

A lot of the following game plan's efficacy depends on college students being responsible (hah) and following the rules in place (hahah). My 2 nieces attend the same college and are room mates.Their school's policy is to let out for Thanksgiving, at which time the school assumes there will be people infected. Then when back on campus there are 2 weeks of online classes, then exams, then release for Christmas. I haven't heard that they are testing anyone though.

The lack of testing is a real hole in all these plans. We need fast and accessible testing.

My family is still gathering for the holidays. The group is much smaller but it is still a group, including a non family member.

I am hopeful but expecting the worst.

People aren’t going to care for the holidays. We are keeping ours to immediate families and that’s it. Thankfully, testing around here is pretty good. I got tested yesterday morning and had my results when I woke up today.

    That is awesome.

We have had mixed results here. From waiting days for results to some getting lost in the system and never finding out.

I joking/not joking suggested to the medical director of the clinic where I work that we go 100% remote from Thanksgiving until at least 2 weeks after new year. Our screener includes asking people if they have attended any unmasked gatherings but you know people lie. I've already had to tell a number of people to go away because they are "exercising their constitutional right to go to church without a mask" or some stupid bullshit. Congrats. I am exercising my right to tell you you can't come inside and see the doctor here. Bye Karen.

so after discussing this with some smart family members and friends, I'm now almost positive I had COVID back in late Feb/early March.

At the time, the doctor told me it was the flu. Not enough covid-19 specific testing, so they said it was flu type B and sent me on my way. Thing is, I've only had the flu two other times in my life, and working in preschool my immune system is such that I never get sick. Maybe once every year or two am I actually down for the count, with a fever, for more than a day. This time, I was running a fever of at least 104 for several days, and running a fever of some type for well over a week. Extremely lethargic for 1-2 months afterward, mental fog during the same time. And now that I'm getting back into long distance running, I'm finding that my lungs aren't what they used to be either. Best thing to compare it to is trying to run at altitude, except I'm not. What I thought was COVID-induced laziness I'm starting to realize might be some more lingering effects, causing me to get more tired more easily.

I've been trying to stay away from the news as much as possible lately, at least as far as COVID goes, since I'm doing everything I can to stay safe and hearing about lockdowns and the like just stresses me out... but where do we stand on being able to test if someone used to have it? Or at least be able to help the long term recovery with things like fatigue and potentially diminished lung capacity? I'm guessing the answer to both is "lol we're still just trying to get this thing under control, hold you're horses there sissy sally" so I'm starting from that assumption.

Disclaimer - I'm not a doctor. You can definitely get a blood draw for an antibody test, but they tend to fade dramatically after about 2-4 months (in my understanding) so at this point, if you had a negative antibody test, I wouldn't necessarily assume you didn't have covid. I know that docs have gotten pretty good at recognizing active covid on chest XRs but I'm not sure if there is the same level of confidence looking at post-covid lung damage, or if you would need mores sensitive imaging, like a CT. You could get a pulmonary function test to assess your lung capacity/function now, but I wouldn't want to go in for an unnecessary procedure with everything going on.

tl;dr it's probably hard to determine if it was covid or not at this point. If you feel like your lungs suck, call your doctor.

If you haven't changed your life during this pandemic, you're the reason why we have to have these restrictions.

I’ve changed the air freshener in my car twice, my underwear every day, and my Spotify playlist frequently. I’m good.
