It’s definitely not unheard of for a serious infection to trigger autoimmunity within the body.

Apparently a new strain is what caused the huge spike in LA. This is from the wife's cousin:
"The recent surge in COVID-19 positive cases in Southern California coincides with the emergence of CAL.20C," Dr.[redacted], assistant professor of pathology and director of molecular pathology in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Cedars-Sinai, said in a release posted to Cedars-Sinai's website.

That shit spread like wildfire through LA. With all these more aggressive strains floating around the country, I'm surprised we haven't seen a spike in cases. Unless we're at testing capacity.

Well we have had our first major out break. We have had a few cases here and there.

These 3 people should be fucking fired. So this teacher male went back east for Christmas, came home gave it to his wife who is also a teacher. She then proceeded to travel in a car with her friend who is a nurse/care aid at our local old folks home. And then they all proceeded to go to there jobs. So guess what happened? So last is known there is 20 cases 16 patients and 4 workers at the olds folks home. Not sure about the schools.

The one upside is you now have an administration that won’t intentionally try to kill people, instead of another four years of concentrarmted incompetence.

Fauci now seems happy. During a pandemic. That speaks volumes, and is a good sign.

"We should lock things down, this disease is very infectious."

"Yeah, but that's just bullshit right?"

    "No, its serious."

"Why don't you care about the economy?"

"I'm a doctor, not an economist."

"What's that? You're a communist? Shut up, nerd."

They are still testing for this information. They aren't saying zero transmission in animal studies but it is looking good. I'm thinking mask usage + vaccine is going to be the winning combo to get this under control.

Here's a quote from the article

The vaccine is 95% effective, which is excellent but not 100%. So between the slim chance of getting it, the slim chance of being an asymptomatic vector, and the optics of not wearing a mask right now, It seems like everyone should keep wearing them until community spread is under control.

eta - got my first dose today! Fetus is still kicking the shit out of me and my arm is only a little sore.

If I get vaccinated before the surge I’ll still wear a mask just for the aesthetic of not upsetting others in public. The last thing I’m sure a lot of us want to be doing is having to explain ourselves to outraged/scene-making strangers during the vaccine rollout. I don’t feel like that whatsoever.

Oh definitely. Plus, like @sisterkathlouise mentioned, even with a small chance of the vaccine not providing protection, or still allowing for transmission, wearing masks will provide that extra layer of protection to stop the spread. I need some solid herd immunity before I feel comfortable taking the bebe out.

I specifically looked for this info because my mother in law just got her first dose and I know she's going to be pushing for a visit with her first grandchild. We'll see. We've waited this long and I am not risking my kid's health (or my own, might not be til May or later til we are able to get vaccinated), for someone's feelings.

In an unexpected turn, my wife’s OBGYN is now suggesting that pregnant women get the vaccine. She’s eligible for it in about a month.

What's your state's procedure on rolling out the vaccine?

Curious about how some other states are doing.

Here in Oregon we're still in phase 1A and it is lagging. If we're lucky we might be in phase 1B next month. I'm even reading about doses being wasted.

We are in 1A and my dad gets his first dose Monday, if I can get my mom in somewhere then I’ll be able to relax, being I’m in waste management support I qualify for group 3 but they have absolutely no idea when that will be.

My 88 year old mom just tested positive and must quarantine for 14 days. She says she feels fine. My next concern is how my 93 year old father is supposed to stay away from her.
