Either this disease is a lot more deadly than I've been lead to believe, or being an angry old white dude who sits on his ass and rants into a radio microphone all day is just a Venn diagram of every comorbidity in the book. These guys are dropping like flies.
SHOCKING. I mean, who ever could have seen this coming? They are making shit up all day, believing their own marketing, thinking that they are actually smarter than the scientists who do this for a living, and COVID is over here not giving a fuck.
is it wrong that I’m more than a bit entertained by these things? Like it’s an actual moral question I’ve wrestled with. Of course you don’t want anyone to die, but someone who has intentionally spread misinformation that has killed other people? At what point is their death not a good thing? And that they died by the very thing they denounced, like that part is fucking hilarious right?
Do you find the same amount of entertainment in the black population (About 29% vaccinated the last figure I saw) dying from Covid at the highest % rate in the country (As of 03/07/21)?
I was referring specifically to people who spout these anti-mask, anti-vaccine lies in a public way, and then they themselves get it. so no, i don’t find it entertaining that black people are dying, however I find it difficult to muster sympathy at this point for anyone who refuses to get the widely available and incredibly effective vaccine, and then is subject to a predictably bad outcome because of it
I thought this was a well written article that shows what's happening in south Oregon. https://www.oregonlive.com/coronavi...ations-worst-what-lifes-like-amid-crisis.html 300 national guard members are being deployed to the area to help keep the hospitals running. Janitorial work, taking temps, doing dishes.
How are these two things even remotely similar? It's slightly funny that rich, educated, semi-famous dudes with big media platforms are encouraging people to disregard the experts and do something that will kill them, and in turn dying from that very thing. There's a Grand Canyon-sized gap between that and and poor, marginalized, minority communities with bad health and worse educations dying from a variety of socioeconomic causes related to COVID.
Sounds like Houston is coming apart. https://www.click2houston.com/news/...dmitted-into-hospitals-but-there-are-no-beds/ A post on Reddit from an ER doc: I am an ER physician. It’s insane. I would have never something like this could ever happen in our country. All the hospitals in my county are basically at capacity, so EMS operates on a round robin schedule of just making us take patients even though there isn’t any more room. EMS is so backlogged, if you call 911 you might have to wait your turn until they can come to pick you up. I’ve never admitted so many ther wise healthy patients on oxygen, and am intubating at least a few patients per shift. I have patients proudly berate me every night for asking if they are vaccinated, all while we are administering oxygen to them. Then they want me to give them a big bag of “experimental” antibodies, yet they think we are all trying to poison them with the “experimental” vaccine. The cognitive disconnect is astounding. My wife really wants us to work for another 5 or so years, but I am ready to check out now. It would mean living on less money, but not being yelled at by assholes who think they know better than me all day long. https://www.reddit.com/r/news/comme...en_anything_like_this_er_doctor_says/h9yz6w5/
It blows ones mind at how stupid and stubborn people can be. Read reddit/r/nursing for the same attitude from people who aren't vaccinated. And some of them have patients spit on them.
I read last week that parts of TX were life flighting patients to Colorado. Doesn't surprise me that Houston is this bad. It's a huge, huge population center and hospitals are not equipped to treat this many sick people. Empty beds are no profit so there are no extras for a contagious pandemic. Plus I've heard nursing staff is short everywhere, conditions are really bad for the workers.
Not to mention the tremendous lack of trust these communities have in the government at all phases, and broad lack of healthcare access...it's a serious problem for the folks pushing the vaccines, and while it's the conservative white dudes doing all the talking, folks from all stripes do the listening....and dying. Texas and Florida are in deep shit, with a few other Southern states not far behind, with no end in sight, and we're now in the scariest part of hurricane season. It's a fucking nightmare: the states most at risk of hurricanes are beat to death by COVID, and we have very few people in the medical fields that want to go help them. You have to keep in mind this "anti-vaxx" movement is kept afloat by a tiny minority of very vocal people spouting and repeating bullshit. Most of the unvaccinated have pretty valid concerns, one of the largest ones being how the vaccine impacts reproductive health in women. I've heard anec-data about how after the vaccine, various women's cycles are harder to predict, and a healthy chunk are staying unvaccinated because they are trying to get pregnant or might be soon. That might be stupid math to you (COVID is deadlier than the vaccine, and it's far worse on a pregnancy), but medicine in general and our system in specific struggles to instill confidence in expecting women. I'm not saying they are right, they're not, but it's a valid concern that needs to be addressed by their own medical team. One problem this pandemic highlighted is how difficult it is for a medical professional to gain and sustain trust if they are so inundated with bullshit. Most docs spend an average of less than 15 minutes in consultation with patients, and it's simply not enough to address their concerns. It's not the doc's fault their concerns are moronic and dismissed with a smackerel of critical thinking, but it hurts us all. Lastly, I think it's time to ignore social media posts by people claiming to be doctors/nurses/etc. The ones I know have nuanced opinions about it, and it's starting to feel like war: the ones who have actually been and seen some shit tend to keep their mouth shut about it. If you're a Houston ER doc right now, you're most likely too fucking exhausted to post on Reddit, or you're sick to fucking death of repeating yourself for the past few months. It's just too likely to be bullshit, even if it is trying to get folks to get the vaccine. The FDA will soon announce the vaccine is no longer in "emergency use", will have full approval and can be required for things like a passport and school registration, just like any other shot. Once that happens, then the federal vs. state shit gets real: the feds can, will and should withhold funding for places that don't require it. Also, the shitty vaccine cards we have now can be incorporated into an actual medical record that is a crime to falsify, and that shit will get real as well. Also, they are testing an HIV vaccine based on the same tech. The fact that this worked this well, and made it through FDA approval with such speed is an amazing accomplishment that should be celebrated.
Yesterday the local mouth breathers gathered to protest "the vaccine mandate" ( even though I don't know of one ). Several were on the news claiming to be health care officials. We're in New York, but we're in a very redneck ignorant section of the state. Our county is still only 44% vaccinated. My wife texted me this morning to tell me that in addition to more Covid cases at her hospital, one of the nurses died. A fucking nurse, trying to help these ignorant fucks. If you have half a brain, you're surrounded by ignorance. Yesterday I'm at my usual place having a drink. A guy comes up talking to the guy next to me. Tells him he just got back from Texas. Of course you did. Then another lady came up to talk to the guy next to me and was too close in my personal space for even a non-pandemic setting. I turned and gave her a look, and she moved. Good thing, I was seconds from telling her to back the fuck away from me. School starts here two weeks from tomorrow. I am tempted to start a pool for when the first closing will be. My bet is by Columbus Day if last year was any indication.
It's not just in the south. My wife works in the ER and the hospital system she works for is starting fill up. You wouldn't know it because it's not on the news at all, but it's looking grim. Luckily it looks like the seven day average for new cases is dropping, so maybe we have enough people vaccinated to at least not blow up our hospital system. They need to approve the vaccine's for kids yesterday with school coming up though. Everyone that I talk to says that they and their kids can't handle another year of remote learning.
Yeah, I hear you... and I took a look at the account history for the post I linked, and it seems to be legit... months of ER doc discussions, same with his wife. I'm very leery of social media posts for karma, etc, so dug into it a bit. I can't guarantee it, but it doesn't look like obvious bullshit.
About 30 minutes ago, the FDA announced full authorization for the Pfizer vaccine. Can’t wait for this from the anti vaccine people. https://gfycat.com/breakabledeliciouscapybara
