The smallpox vaccine was developed in less than two years at the very end of the 1700’s. Smallpox’s body count stacked up to the equivalent of China’s modern population yet its cure was developed in a pinch, under primitive and newly-founded scientific conditions while the power of the church was constantly trying to crush their research for interfering with “The Plan”. The virus killed 300 million more in the 1900’s, yet was eradicated in 1980. Because of the vaccine. Now you have idiots in this day, right now, saying it’s “not enough research time” to develop a vaccine. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK you. You do not deserve a voice, your opinion is not valid. These people need to be publicly shouted down and shamed louder and more brutally than ever.
I just saw my first "masks mandatory" at a local hardware store. So I put mine on and went in, no big deal. I asked the kid at the register if they have a lot of people giving them a hard time. He sighed and nodded. I told him to just tell them to GTFO. He laughed and said the owners have no problem doing just that. The more these ignorant assholes are tolerated or allowed to get away with their boorish behavior, the more they'll do it. A good right hook is the only cure.
Since the mask mandate has been lift about 6-7 weeks ago in my area, i would have to drive home and go find mine.
okay so let's play this out. Let's assume that moderna and J&J also get full FDA approval, and that the government decides to mandate them for things like passports, school attendance (once approved for those age groups), work, etc. What would that mandate look like? Would people start rioting? Do yall think the government would give notice, like say a month or two to get yourself all vaxxed up, or just say like in 2 weeks everyone needs their first shot at least?

What you’d like to see or what it would look like in reality? They may be able to push them through in the military and government agencies. If they start limiting things the general public actually uses the government for and there is significant pushback? They’ll fold like a cheap suit hoping not to get slaughtered in the midterms. If the administration had any courage of conviction they’d start putting out CDC directives that any locality under x percent vaccinated would have to go back to last year’s lockdown protocols. Everyone wants to stop babying the unvaccinated crowd right?
My mom finally went home yesterday after 10 days in the hospital. She needs an oxygen machine for now but her latest covid test was negative. So she’s out of the woods. Still weak but improving. Our personal trainer friend’s family are now on ventilators. The last thing they did before getting sedated was to pull off their high flow o2 mask and claim they didn’t need it and that they could breathe just fine. Our friend’s immediate family are all vaccinated and she is trying to get her 11 year old to get a script for the vaccine off label. Her fat, stupid, retarded family are probably gonna die.
I'm still not over the fact that there are localities in Florida that are running out of oxygen, and a knock-on consequence of that is that they have to ration fresh water usage. "My body my choice. But also my choice is creating a community-wide shortage of oxygen and water." (I get that the oxygen shortage isn't the breathing kind, but it makes it Spaceballs-level funny if you assume it is).
yeah I’m more interested in what y’all think will actually happen. Because I think any reasonable person wants to, to borrow a popular phrase, say “fuck your feelings” to the anti-vaxx crowd. That’s a given.
I, too, am wondering about this, and when it will all end. Right now, they are "encouraging" a third booster shot because of the new Delta variant. Okay, but what about the next variant? Because I have a feeling that every six months there's going to be some new boogeyman variant coming out, and the powers that be will use that as an excuse to exercise restrictions on us. If we have to keep getting boosters, how long will they continue to be free? What if you already got the shot, and you don't want to get the booster? Are they going to restrict you?
I fucking hope so. We're going to have to take boosters for as long as people refuse to get vaccinated because. In Canada we have the best vaccination rate in the world. And we're on track for a lockdown by September.
at least from my perspective, knowing a lot of people and seeing how harmful this particular variant is to children especially, I'm all for the boosters. I can get mine Feb 26th and I will be in the nearest CVS or walgreens that morning for it. I'll happily take a booster once a month ad infinitum if I need to in order to prevent others from experiencing the same hell I went through.
This right here, in a nutshell, is why COVID isn't going anywhere. The notion of doing something of even perceived inconvenience to benefit someone other than oneself is no where near a universal value. There are people who are willing to watch baby coffins be hauled out of their neighbor's homes before going to Walgreens to get a shot.
See I don’t consider myself to be all that giving or charitable or even kind. As a general rule, I’m looking out for myself and my family first. I’ve gone to far too many funerals of family members and friends and not cried. Emotions are not my strong suit (especially after brain surgery kinda muted that). but we’re in a goddamn pandemic. This is the LEAST you can do! I was interviewing someone today and we were laughing at how children wear their masks better than adults. Hell I forget I have mine on sometimes! Just nut up, get the pokey poke, and move on with your life. And if enough people do it, we can ALL move on. It’s not a big deal. You don’t become radioactive. The shot doesn’t turn you gay. It’s a fucking shot. Take some Tylenol, sleep well and get on with life.
just found out that my son's speech therapist, her entire family has it except for her. Four kiddos and her husband. She's the only one who got the shot (kiddos all too young currently). Suffice to say she's VERY frustrated with her husband right now. She saw how bad it got with me -- we've known her for years so she was always texting my wife to check in during the worst of it -- and remembers quite well how near instantly I recovered when I got that first dose. She said, surprise surprise, that he'd do anything to feel better so she's gonna suggest one of the mRNA ones for him as a solution once he recovers from the immediate shit, which he's still in the thick of. She asked if she could use my name specifically as an example of how the vaccine helped, because apparently he trusts my judgment. Even though he's a goddamn EMS WORKER!! They should trust the fucking doctors they work with!! I swear to god facebook and twitter and the access to misinformation will be the end of society as we know it
