I feel that being willing to issue a retraction like that and to put it right at the top of the article makes them a proper news agency.

I think it's a fact that significantly less people see a retraction than see the original errors/lies, so the damage remains done. I do not think these were errors, which I can understand. The statements made appear to be lies, that went unverified, for whatever reason. That should be unacceptable. Did the article not set off your bullshit meter?

I wish we would get back to when journalists properly checked sources and facts. Across the whole of MSM, just straight facts. Did this article do anything to waver your trust in Rolling Stone as a source of facts?

Nah, getting it wrong to start with makes them a shit news agency.

It does more damage to society to get it wrong, first, than to get it right, second.

It should have dissolved them entirely. That is the one boycott I did and I stuck to it.

They were sued multiple times, but the media made sure to keep all settlements and apologies as quiet as possible. No real Justice was served, Sabrina Erdely shed a few crocodile tears and the false accuser was never punished for anything by anybody. She is STILL officially labeled as a “victim” by law and have stated they will never lift the protection order on her identity (which is Jackie Coakley).

After this and Duke lacrosse, feminists were fairly bitter over the fact that they were wrong about everything.

Rolling Stone should be ignored at all times. It was bad enough when they said Lars Ulrich was a better drummer than Ginger Baker. Fuck you and die.

Yay, 40 million cases! I forget where I saw it, but there were 4 million cases (10%!!) in the last month or so.

Also, the Mu variant is popping up in our news.

On a personal note, an elderly blind couple that goes to my parents' church have it...the wife is non-responsive on a ventilator, and the husband is in the early throes of it. For some reason, that one hit me pretty hard. I have dropped leftovers off at their house and ran errands for them for years now, going back to my time in university. They are a pair of gentle spirits, and I can't imagine the anguish they are in right now, not to mention what their families are going through. It's like this pandemic has been a unique set of hells for each of us to contend with, in one form or another.

My niece's school just isn't taking attendance, giving any kid with any illness an excuse to stay home. My friend teaches in the same district, and they have kids showing up with lice, vomiting and in literal rags, because their parents aren't able to care for them....the district has shut down 5 classes already because of COVID outbreaks, yet to shut down the entire school, but we know it's coming.

I'm in SC, and if somoene opens their mouth about me wearing a mask, I might make the news.

She's fucking with them folks, right? She left the room cackling about saying plandemic, I bet. Maybe someone wagered she wouldn't do it and now that person has to shave their head or something.

20 years ago, that is a simple mispronunciation of an appropriate word describing the situation. Now, it fuels one of the dumbest conspiracy theories ever conceived.

Our county numbers are steadily increasing with 183 active cases ( total population of 83,500 ). The news reports on it and the comment section is just as one would expect. "Fake news," "It's all bullshit," "The numbers are wrong," and so on.

Meanwhile, it feels like no one at the county government level is doing anything at all but sitting back and watching the fire grow.

First day of school was today, and I will be shocked if it's not rampant in the schools by Thanksgiving.

And still, people want to fight vaccination and mask mandates. I guess we need to lose a few kids before they figure it out.

Even then they won’t care, ever. It is now a core belief to them; as difficult to shed as a an addiction, or even a destructive chemical dependency. Not until they are choking on a respirator will they say “Perhaps I underestimated this Chinese Virus.”

Remember Ray Sharkey? 80’s actor who contacted AIDS during the “gays only” early period of that pandemic and decided to just keep fucking women without telling a soul. He did an interview near his death where he looked like a shrivelled-up boney mess coughing out death rattles every 30 seconds and still his response was along the lines of “The disease is a strange thing. (*hack, wheeze*) Sometimes you have, and sometimes you don’t.”
….NO. You just always have had AIDS and we’re killing women with it because you were in denial until the day you died, motherfucker.

Stupidity combined with stubbornness is a very dangerous thing for innocent bystanders.

Earlier this week, Jungle Julia's best friend and her husband got the virus.

And they're both anti-vax Trump supporters.

    SURPRISE!

I wish I was joking about this, because this news, in addition to some other bad news we've gotten has put her in a really bad mood.

The online independent "intelligencia" of crypto people seems to have come around to admitting that covid is a thing, and that the vaccines are good, actually. However, they have turn in to the "look at the deaths, we should all just go back to normal now" (likely because they're vaccinated). My in-laws have lost the plot, and it's awful to see the good brother caring about them, how they interact with his kids, while the one brother who considers himself a genius and prophet of crypto "offer his services" in dealing with them.

Yup. Several places have, it's essentially the first step in admitting you don't have enough beds/staff/stuff and need to start prioritizing care based on who's likely to survive, need it most, or can't be shifted elsewhere.

It's kind of terrible too, because if you turn someone away to an urgent care, let's say, after sitting in that environment, there's a certain point in which you're going "Yup, they are exposed, and likely exposing everyone they come into contact with along the way".

The fucking desert. I hate the fucking desert.
As someone who is originally from, and still has deep ties to, one of the areas listed in the story I can give a bit of insight into this.

Bonner county has a population of 40-50K. The hospital is largely unchanged since the 80's when the population was under 25K. That right there would be a problem, but the problem is exacerbated by the fact that in the summer the population swells to 250K+ when you factor in the influx of tourists. What you end up with is a hospital trying to service a population 10X what it was designed for even before you figure a pandemic into the equation.

So yeah, I'm not surprised at all that they're having issues, it was inevitable.
