My wife and I were just talking about that. It's funny, but at the same time this is actually gonna happen. I think it'll be bigger than the baby boomers, because it's world-wide. It's gonna re-shape the political landscape for a long time, and we're all gonna get sick as fuck of seeing the facebook pictures of "baby's 1st bday!!!" with a bottle of corona.
Jungle Julia is really paranoid about all of this; I'm not. I've told her that if one of us gets it, we're both getting it.
That's my thinking. By the time my wife or I know we have it, it's too late to prevent the other person from getting it as well as our kiddos. We have enough medicine to control the temp, fluids and comfy beds. Everyone is in great health. We'll be fine.
Anyone got a favorite restaurant they’re supporting with takeout orders? My pizza place around here is mobbed.
Several. Local pizza place is managed by a co-worker's husband. Their delivery guys are rolling in tips right now. The restaurants around here that don't have the ability to run delivery have opened up as makeshift grocery stores. They have the supply chain, just everything comes in bulk. No one is complaining.
People with delivery jobs are having quite a pinnacle right now, because they are busier than ever, and have never had less traffic to get around.
Oh my. In that 3rd link Nett posted with the interactive coronavirus map https://www.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/bda7594740fd40299423467b48e9ecf6 the count was 14,xxx this morning when I looked at it. Just hit refresh, we're up to 272,xxx. And that's reported cases. And we're not even close to being at peak yet.
You are now looking at world totals (when nothing is selected). You were looking at the 14k for the US only before. Click on the US again and you’ll see a total closer to what you were expecting.
My wife and I got some take out tonight - lobster manicotti. When I went to pick it up, I resisted the urge to say “soooo...how’s business?”
Interesting little tidbit from my drive: Yesterday driving on I 15 northbound from Vegas, approximately 80-90% of the cars headed north (Outside of metro areas) were Canadians. That is not an exaggeration. My guess is the folks wintering down south all decided to head home at once while they can.
That and flights have been cancelled due to inbound airport restrictions. Happened to my neighbors. Earliest flight was a couple weeks out (no guarantees) so they rented a car and drove from Florida.
My first personal connection to the virus just popped up on FB. Friend of mine and his family have it. Sort of. He's late 30's, his wife is a year younger and his two kids are ~5 & 2. This is the story he posted (names redacted)
Fucking hell. One thing I’ve noticed is that you don’t see anything detailing what people who have it go through. This is probably the closest I’ve seen of something like that. As an out-of-shape guy over 50 who just got over bronchitis while in Japan, this thing scares me.
Expect more states to declare "shelter in place" emergencies, and National Guard to pre-position. We have a decent likelihood of being at over 30,000 by Monday, we just crossed 20K today. So, yes it's getting worse and it's getting faster. I talked to my friend at the CDC and he confirmed: shit is real scary.
My parents are in their 70’s, I’ve ordered them into pseudo-hermit mode in their condo until April and I will be grabbing anything they need for them until then. It’s not jail, they’ll still go for walks since they overlook Springbank Park but: no more grocery shopping, no more building mixers, no more going to Timmy’s. I lent them the series collection of “The I.T. Crowd” that will keep them still for at least three days.
Yeah, why not? Two days drive or mix in airports longer with strangers from around the entire world. You can do Florida straight in less than 24 with two people if you can rotate driving and sleeping well-balanced. That’s a no-brainer.
FYI, I've stickied this thread as I'm afraid that it will be somewhat relevant for some time to come.
