Million dead. Millions more permanently unwell. Millions more temporarily sick as fuck. Economy tanked. MIracle solution ignored, denigrated and lied about. Costs in the trillions. Irrevocable and incalcuable damage to public life. Disruptions to supply chain, work, school. Healthcare system broken.

If your freedoms trump all of that, go live in fucking Somalia.

obviously you have a lot more insight into this than anyone I know, but I’ve been saying since omnicron got bad that I don’t think we’ll be in the “pandemic” phase of this by this time — ie january — next year.

how accurate of a statement do you think that is?

This isn't going away by March, and at the 2-year mark it's endemic. Fuck, it's in deer. I have a strong fear of new variants emerging and this cycle beginning again, only worse.

However, we should be in good shape by summer if nothing new comes up. The pill, additional guidance on boosters, and some decent studies on long-haul covid will help keep things from overwhelming us. Some stuff, like masks, remote work, etc. isn't going away entirely, but it won't be a necessity.

The political fallout will continue to be surreal, the economic fallout will take decades to unfuck, and our health care system is in for an overhaul because of this, but as far as catching something every time you watch a movie or go to a baseball game, that shouldn't be the case in 2022.

As wild as it is to think a few weeks after the peak, this might almost be over.

In 4 months, someone come back to this and either reward me or falcon punch me in the dick.

COVID will be completely gone, but Ebola will mutate to be airborne.

So Neil Young gave Spotify an ultimatum because of Joe Rogan and his Covid bullshit. They called his bluff and will be pulling his stuff off the platform.

I’m pretty annoyed as big fan of Neil Young and I listen to him on there quite a bit. But I think he might have overstated his value to them. If he backs down and goes back to being on Spotify, he will look like a bitch. It’s not like he really needs their money.

Even though I disagree with Rogan about a lot of things lately, I think it was dumb for Neil to pin himself against someone who’s actually popular that people still know.

Wasn’t Neil Young big into the anti-GMO bullshit? He’s no stranger to anti-science nonsense.

Neil Young is a great artist, but there's no way he thought he was a bigger commercial draw than Rogan at this point in time. This had to have been more about making a statement than any honest expectation that Spotify would cave.

I think he once had one of those cars that ran on vegetable oil or some shit. He’s no stranger to the cause du jour. I’m just annoyed that I will have to go back and find my cd’s and rip them to my iTunes.

I bet he will quietly back off and hope no one notices.

Spotify paid a hefty sum to get rogan exclusively. There’s no way they would cave to an old hippie who isn’t even known to anyone under 40.

Yes but that was legit because it was a leftist cause. Big pharma was just as as evil as big Agra a few short years ago.

Okay, do you think anything is REALLY going to change? Because we've had the whole healthcare discussion before, and it's pretty obvious that the people in charge of the healthcare system don't want it fixed.

I don't see how it can't. From the data issues we had early on, to the staffing shortage, to the lawsuits that are going to proliferate around and about covid...yeah, I think a lot will happen.

The people in charge of healthcare are now in the crosshairs of the government that just had to bail them out over and over again, to the tune of billions of dollars. I think the Pfizers of the world will be fine, but there will be some changes to public heatlh reporting, state and interstate standards for nurses and a hell of a lot of lawsuits.

I can't begin to explain how fragile this system is at a national level, and how broken it is at a local level.

I have a lot of respect for Neil Young and his convictions. I am 100% convinced that he didn't do this for any other reason than he believes it's the right thing to do, and that he would lose.

He's got a long history of this kind of stuff.

Young does not give a shit if he sells a single album. He never sold out commercially, he’s never done anything for the sake of being more famous or making more money.

For a good example of this see the Pono player, the dumbest portable music player ever.

I mean it is a fucking Toblerone shape that doesn’t fit in a pocket.

Sad thing is I own one because Jägerette got one when she worked for Pono.

It was supposed to be one of the first lossless portable audio devices. But it was expensive as shit and used a proprietary file type, I think. Now Apple Music offers lossless streaming. All you need are good enough headphones.

::taps head:: Can't have lossy compression when converting to a lower bitrate if the master was digitized at a low bitrate to begin with

It played flac files. Just like my android phone at the time.

Anyway, keeping on topic I am glad to say that Sweden now has about 3-5% of people weaing masks in stores, an all time high.
