I understand, and feel the same way about it, as I'm sure a lot of people do. Whether I get it or not, we'll see. But at some point, yeah, enough is enough.
I had COVID for the first time a month or so ago and it fucking sucked. It took 3 weeks to get to feeling like I was at my baseline. I'll take my shot and risk feeling crappy for a day or two.
I get a fever every time I get a flu shot, too, because apparently I am a pathetic baby with an overeager immune system. But I haven’t had so much as a cold since March 2020 so that’s cool. Putting off my flu shot until there is a little more flu activity around here since what flu season we did have last year hit a little late.
I'm not going to get the bivalent booster because IMO it's stupid. I've been vaccinated for the original strain, I don't need it again. They should have made a monovalent Omicron vaccine because it would have been much more protective as actual studies show. Paul Offit talks about it on TWIV 942.
Completely back to normal two days after the bivalent booster. I mean I’m still fucking retarded, but I’m completely fine for me. So a bit of a headache and a fever for a day to be covered for omnicron variants, yeah I’m happy to make that trade off! also I don’t wanna jinx it, but as with the other shots/boosters, this might have flushed out some more of my long Covid. I feel like I have more energy today.
Has anybody tested positive lately and taken any of the treatment drugs? Like Paxlovid, Molnupiravir, Mebtelovimab? The first two are antiviral and the last one is monoclonal antibodies. I have some older friends who battle it recently, both couples both had it and they're all about the same age. All are vaccinate. One couple just battled it out with acetaminophen, rest, fluids, etc. and were laid up at home for a couple weeks, and still battling some long term breathing issues. The other couple immediately went on a doctor-recommended course of treatment - I think both an antiviral and the antibody. They bounced back in like two days. I had it back in January, and it was fairly mild, except for some lingering congestion, so it never occurred to me to ask for doctor treatment. But, I've heard of others being immediately recommended to take some meds like that. Just curious what other folks are doing.
Isn't that what Trump was saying way back in the day and everyone shit all over him for it? He said so much stupid stuff that I could be getting it confused.
Congrats on the sex, but I'm pretty sure you can't call your wife that these days. I'm trying to figure out a time to get myself and my wife the bivalent booster, my oldest daughter her first booster, and my youngest her 2nd dose and not have the whole house fall in to complete chaos. I may just suck it up for another week or two and get the kids their shots first since they're both more at risk being in school and around others while my wife and I both work from home, so we can wait a bit.
No, monoclonal antibodies were always considered effective. The issue was that at the time monoclonals were expensive and difficult to acquire, so him talking about how COVID was no big deal, and then nearly dying without top of the line treatment, struck people as a bit Lord Farquad-y.
Yeah, and wasn't he also taking hydroxychloroquine and drinking bleach or whatever, too? I'm not curious about either one of those, lol.
No, he just told people that those treatments could be effective. To my knowledge, he never took either of them.
No, he was saying that hydroxychloroquin was an effective treatment, and that he was taking it daily, but when he got COVID, news outlets specifically said that he DID NOT have any in his system.
Yep... he had the super-expensive care as President, and then during press conferences he was pumping a bunch of stuff, and said he was taking the horse-dewormer for weeks until it came out that he wasn't... that's what caused the huge run on that stuff. He also had press conferences where he was conflating external cleaning with in-body remedies... "UV Light and Bleach" was an effective external cleaning regimen, but he was pushing the CDC rep to say that it was also effective internally as well... I remember watching that one live... the look of horror on her face as she said, "no, we do not think drinking bleach is helpful... please, do not drink bleach"... but he was trying to show that he knew as much as the scientists and was helping them. Same for the sharpie on the weather map deal. "Here, I can help and know as much as the specialists."
My dad has a couple high risk check boxes so they immediately put him on Paxlovid. He did okay, bounced back in about a week and had some lingering issues like tiring easily for a couple weeks after the other symptoms dispersed. Seems like people treated with antivirals are at higher risk for "rebound" infection - basically a lower-severity infection that seems to appear after all symptoms have cleared and the person is testing negative. I'm not sure how much data there is on it yet, but rebound infections do happen even without antivirals.
Ah yes, I still remember Dr. Birx sitting there and watching any credibility she had left dissipate before her eyes:
Okay guys, I know that I've been bragging about not being sick at all for the last three years, but I've been sneezing with a runny nose all afternoon. I took a Chinese-virus test (they provide them for free at work), and I'm negative. So that's a win?
I thought it was when she was telling people not to gather for the holidays, travelled and had Thanksgiving with her whole family, claimed she was actually there to sell property, then admitted the truth, then joined an air purifier device firm when she couldnt land a job in the Biden administration?
allergies are out of control right now. I sound like I just throat fucked a cattle prod. Take some xyzal and you'll be fine.
