Just hearing reports of a media barrage of Federal folks on Coronavirus, everything from Oprah to Fox and Friends. Also, 80 tons of PPE are making their way to NY, NJ and CT today, with distribution to IL and OH tomorrow.
ou Did anything come of that storehouse in Indiana that apparently had something like 1.8m masks that were being hoarded for TSA/ICE?
Last I heard, they hadn't shipped them yet because they are "expired" or something charming like that.
No, but I did hear about a few TSA agents that were infected. So, they've got that going for them....
That is awesome news. If you're comfortable with it, please share your new table of projections. How likely do you think a loosening of measures is based on the new numbers? Or will it still be obviously serious enough that the stay at home orders stick. Seems like that would cause another spike.
He's done some good for sure, but I don't know about threatening a lawsuit to Rhode Island for stopping and quarantining people fleeing the state. There are so many cases in NY, and I don't want the rest of the country to look like that because these people wouldn't self isolate at home.
Seems unlikely we'll hit that number. We were at 125,000 to start the day, and have been in the 17,000-20,000 new case range over the last few days. Even if that number jumps by 50% it won't be enough to hit 160,000.
Like many Upstate NY residents, I have long disliked Andrew Cuomo. However I have been very vocal about my approval of how he is handling this situation. He has been far more presidential than the actual POTUS.
It will be interesting to see what happens as testing starts to pick up. Can’t report on stats that don’t exist.
Everybody in our society needs to learn the word “insidious” who hasn’t already. They do not understand how things can hide inside you and then spring out. Some, like Herpes, spring in and out for life like an adorable Jack-in-the-Box. Too many people seem to think that just because they feel fine, they ARE fine. Don’t trust it. I’m certainly not going to gamble my parent’s lives over it. If they have to cancel a couple of fireworks displays, so the fuck what.
It's not just that... these number are generated. They have a process and formula behind them. The more you dig into that process and formula, the more you can appreciate how they are not really representative of reality. Not too long ago Trump didn't want the cruise ship numbers to be calculated, because "I don't want the public numbers to double." He was right... the exact same number of people had the virus, but it was the reported number that was going to double. Stop and take a look at how little they are testing, and only under what extreme cases they are being tested, and I'm very leery of the numbers you see posted ANYWHERE. Sure, there may be a correlation now between tested positive and deaths and recovered, etc, , but that doesn't mean it will last long. So much of the problem that is being faced right now is about lack of information. It seems silly to argue over the little bit of inaccurate information that's out there right now.
I don't view that entirely to be a bad thing. At least it means the mortality rate may be a lot lower than these worst case scenarios. Yes, I know it's bad for the virus trajectory. Just looking at the glass half full.
Are they testing everyone who dies right now? An old person expires in their home, which is more likely: they test for covid and risk raising the death toll as well as *wasting* a test, or they just chalk their death up as “old age” and move on? The numbers are a good predicting tool, but they’re also just that — a tool. And not the only tool we have. Logic, common sense, and erring on the side of caution are a lot more effective tools at staying safe right now. I’m not convinced the fatality rate isn’t a lot higher than what we’re seeing. And at any rate, it’s safer to assume it is a lot more deadly and act as such.
That's my point... if someone's dead, they're not testing them, and odds are they are marking the death down to preexisting conditions. There aren't anywhere near enough tests for the living that need them, they're not going to waste them on the dead.
