Yeah I'm wondering about that hydroxychloroquine they keep promoting. Dr. Fauci said he wouldn't take it unless he was part of a clinical trial (it has crazy side-effects). Me thinks they have some hands in the pot to profit if people buy the drug.
As of right now it appears that cats (all species) and ferrets may be able to be infected by the virus, but they are dead end hosts. This means they cannot pass the virus on. It is human to animal transmission, and the inappropriate host does not allow it to replicate and spread.
Hopefully in a clinical trial of some sort, based on shortage of Plaquenil and the generic through pharmacies. It is more commonly used as a treatment for rheumatoid arthritis and lupus, and patients who have been on it chronically for these diseases are unable to get it due to lack of availability now.
Story time: back in 2008, I contracted malaria in Uganda. The only positive thing about that was I happened to be with family, in Dubai, when it presented. Even luckier, I was in proximity to the American Hospital of Dubai and in possession of a credit card and an excellent insurance plan. They treat malaria with two drugs simultaneously, in my case doxycycline and chloroquine. This is when I got to feel the special experience of having both malaria and a profound adverse reaction to a drug. I was given meds to take home and subsequently released (before the reaction started). My aunt drove us home and within 90 minutes I: 1. Lost my sense of taste. 2. Went deaf due to tinnitus. 3. Began vomiting so uncontrollably I ultimately burst all the blood vessels in my eyes. 4. Developed a severe abdominal pain, which turned out to be my liver shutting down. Thank god I was near the AHD, a private hospital with a world class tropical disease doctor on staff. Had I been in Africa or Canada I believe I would have died. Long story short: the drugs they’re experimenting with are serious shit. People must be on death’s door for them to try it. I’ve already warned my family that god forbid I get sick, they kibosh any sort of quinine treatment.
Mutltiple lions/tigers at the Bronx Zoo showed symptoms, but all were in contact with a known positive human. All are expected to recover. Only 1 tiger was tested, because it's a giant pain in the ass to get diagnostic samples from large cats. Typically involves general anesthesia, which is not a risk free event. At this point 5 animals have "tested positive", which means particles of the virus were found in upper airways. Whether or not the virus then lived and replicated has not been proven. If it was truly passable between humans and pets, there would be a large amount of suspect cases reported, based on the amount of people testing positive at this point. My money is on media sensationalism at this point. https://www.avma.org/resources-tool...mOVnqU1DE3NVkZnBzt8cLg_ZEMtMAlBj8SlU5tO37rfL4
To be honest, that’s kinda how I’m approaching a good number of headlines these days. If only we knew somebody who was fearless in the face of the danger of big cats...somebody who wouldn’t shy away from the spotlight if called to action...somebody with a pimp-ass EMS bomber jacket.
Well, Netflix is apparently adding another episode of Tiger King? ANd they added a sing-along version of one of his songs. WE NEED YOU, JOE EXOTIC!
I always say that the reason I rarely get sick is because I sterilize my insides with alcohol every day. That, and my immune system kicks ass. And I'm reasonably young. (Watch me be the first board member to get it!)
My doctor literally doesn't know where/how to get her patients tested in Maryland. This is a clusterfuck.
That is pretty cool. I like how they explained they are using the display from the center display infotainment system. "Yes, we can monitor the patient's breathing and airflow, but we can also see how many miles per gallon they get, crank some righteous tunes and watch movies when we're bored!"
If you could make a respirator that you can also allow you to play “Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out”, you could rule the world.
Gov. Cuomo just extended our shut down to April 29th. He also says the curve appears to be flattening out, but I need a few more days before I’m convinced. It really hasn’t hit here Upstate as we were expecting. And here in our county, a lot of people are going out to Walmart and that like nothings wrong. I’m bracing for the spike and shitstorm here.
From what I heard, from this thread, the backlog of tests is causing the curve to artificially flatten out. Because a 30 day delay in tests means that the data is a month old and the number of false results on month old saliva is higher then results from fresh saliva. Then I start thinking about how Churches are "essential" services and how Easter is going to set off a whole new chain of infections. And I just heard that the father of the Factory Five Racing guys died from COVID and I've decided to day drink.
