Most of the ignorant shit said here is pandering to the lowest common element among friends, or for humor, or rationalized somehow by their upbringing. I don't think anyone who has even a superficial understanding of the situation, why we're there, the culture we're fighting in, the tangled web of bullshit that's been woven, etc would say anything that dumb. Then again, it takes a bit of education and the ability to view the world through a lens other than the one on your camo .306. I'm not going to get into the bulk out of it, because this isn't the place for politics, but I feel like if someone isn't conflicted in the slightest about the whole situation, they're either pushing an agenda or they're severely undereducated. My official position is...I'd like to see my dad come home from the Middle East. Not because I think one way or another about the war, but I think he's done his time. A lifetime in the military, after he retired he was there before 9/11, been in Iraq/Afghanistan since, he deserves a chance to come home and sit on his porch with the dogs and a cold beer. It's shortsighted, but I don't care. Me and mine first. I'll let HuffPo and Fox News battle it out.
I guess you missed the last thread, but Aetius had a great post that you should read. Subject: The War of Northern Aggression Mods, sorry for keeping this can of worms open. I know no good will come of this.
So if anyone gets bored of talking about between, amongst and the Civil War I'm looking for some help. I'll be out in Los Angeles for the summer and I'm free every weekend so I want to go on some trips around the state/nearby states. Recommendations, GO.
So I just got home from a paying band gig. We didn't finish until 2:30AM because our singer showed up late again. Does anyone know what the hell is up with musicians (singers in particular)? Why can't they show up on time? Why do they think it is ok to get hammered on the job? I have attempted to work with several musicians that I later discovered had no concept of reliability or professionalism. Sorry. Maybe this will make up for my stupid rant.
84 Hour work week this week and next. Thank god I don't do much at my job. Beer pick up tonight, but what to get...hmmm.
I'm sitting here signing mother's day cards and can't help but wonder how Hallmark has managed to stave off the whole e-card thing this long. I mean, it's inefficient, needlessly costly and bad for the environment. I have my girlfriend here who gets pissed off at me for being wasteful when I leave the water running while I brush my teeth, but balks whenever I bring up how wasteful physically mailing cards is. On another note, why the fuck do we have a thread about the royal wedding? Y'all give LARPers shit for playing make pretend, but you have a thread dedicated to gossiping about a wedding involving people you've never met. Ok, what the hell is up with this stuff? Is it likeable because it's a cheap Captain Morgan rip off that's pretty close to the same taste (ala Admiral Nelson)? Or is it actually just a good drink? Isn't part of being a teacher being at the top of your game early in the morning 5 days a week?
Heading back to Huntsville tomorrow morning. Still can't find any news on where power is back and when other places are expected to get it. Here's the awesomely detailed map of power outages in Madison County:
Currently laying in bed reading about the draft extremely hungover. Apparently I decided to put down 2/3 a fifth of Evan Williams drinking ginger and whiskeys. Yet another weekend I've woken up at 6 in the morning passed out on the couch.
Stuck here in bumfuck Texas...started work at 5am. At least I got a power nap during break. Off tomorrow and hitting the golf course, I need to add beer to that situation.
Like finding a twenty in the wash I just remembered tonight's (and future) UFC will start at 9 instead of 10, fuck yes!
Looking at food porn is my newfound hobby when bored. Wikipedia defines Food Porn as "a provocative term variously applied to a spectacular visual presentation of cooking..." God bless it. http://foodporndaily.com/pictures/b...ken-gravy-pickled-green-tomato-and-fried-egg/ http://foodporndaily.com/pictures/f...rl-peanut-butter-filled-pretzels-and-caramel/
Today is the first day that's nice enough and weekendy enough that I can barbecue. It is a most excellent turn of events. +1 for having a balcony.
Made pot brownies last night. They blew my mind. I didn't eat that much and they fucked me up; we cooked the butter for about 45 minutes and are using some the strongest pot I've ever bought.
