I thought we were still on shitty 90s music, so I brought this: Edit: Actually, you know what? No, I still like "One Headlight". The rest of the album sucked ass though.
Mardi Gras parades started this weekend and the boys and I are on the street catching the usual amount of crap these early, shitty parades throw until one woman chucks a double handful of cheap earrings at us. This, naturally, raises the point to my sons that at one point I did indeed have a pierced ear which led to me trying to see if that hole was still there and amazingly enough it was. I figure I have about a 50/50 chance of getting some strange Mardi Gras related sepsis from that earring and it is nice to know that twenty plus year old idiotic decisions can still pop up and surprise you from time to time.
And, Toronto must've too, eh? Geddy Lee, lead singer for Rush and Jewish Canadian, real name Gary Lee Weinrib, mother a holocaust survivor who's accent was thick - hence, Gary sounded like Geddy. And, Beck's dad, David Campbell, composed and conducted the string arrangements on Rush's new album, Clockwork Angels. (e.g. this closing song) Okay, that's the last Rush I'll post in this thread, I promise.
I don't care what you bastards say. The 90's had some decent music. I can't tell you of a mainstream rock band that I like. There's a fair amount of somewhat independent stuff, but not anything you'd hear on the Radio*. Full admission- I followed the trend straight to pop punk, wallet chains, and Jncos. It's a shame Green Day kept going after Dookie. And Canadians, I don't even know what to say about y'all except your criticisms of music are noted and very important. *Goddammit. Somebody just turned into a hipster, and I think it's daddy!
90s music is defined by some really mediocre stuff. What everyone forgets is how big metal was in about 1992-1993 right before grunge exploded. They rode the wave the rest of the decade too. Metallica, Megadeth, Ozzy, Slayer, Anthrax, Exodus, Faith No More, Testament, Ministry all had their biggest albums. Pantera just came out, Sepultura hit, Corrosion of Conformity and Tool were about to hit. Mercyful Fate, King Diamond, Black Sabbath, GNR, Motorhead also had albums. These albums were all good too. Best of all, hair metal died a terrible fucking, pants shittingly gruesome death. Monday Morning Metal should be a thing. All from 1992: (Everything about this song is sick. It's like someone gave Billy Gibbons PCP and spliced his genes with Metallica)
I post a brand new, fresh as shit, hot as hell, hip-hop track, and it triggers a deluge of 90s shitty pop/pop rock. I get it, fine. Message received, lesson learned. I'll never do it again. I'm sorry.

Raised: plus shiiiat: I think the 90's peaked about 94 as far as music. Grunge and gangster rap were the only saving grace of popular music of the decade. Still the 8o's, in my mind, take the cake for worst fucking decade of music.
I refuse to hear anyone speak ill of this song. Natalie Imbruglia was, and still is, fucking gorgeous and that song was always a guilty pleasure, until I realized I didn't feel guilty, it was just awesome. Easily one of my favorite female pop songs of all time. I also was floored to find out it was a cover a few years ago.
So I got the first results from the all-day management evaluation that work sent me to. This evaluation consisted of the following: 240 question personality assessment 240 question career interest assessement 145 question motivation assessment 100 question cognitive ability test company merger/takeover roleplay manager/subordinate coaching roleplay general Q&A The sum result of all of that was learning pretty much the same thing I've been hearing all my life: My raw cognitive ability is extremely high (according to the firm the highest they've ever seen) but I scored pretty low on the motivation assessment. It's like I'm back in middle/high school listening to the guidance counselor all over again.
