I dated a girl out convenience for a few years. My friend mentioned she was exactly like my mom. I had no idea. We split up for good not long after. Never again. My dinner was a ribeye steak, diver scallops with a bacon and green onion vinaigrette, roasted asparagus with parmesan cheese, twice baked potato with more bacon and green onion and cheese, mushrooms, and Snickers pie. On top of the Nashville Hot Chicken from last night, I don't feel well. By the way, KFC Nashville Hot Chicken is a fucking rip off. They charge you the price of their chicken, then almost a dollar extra PER PIECE for the hot style. Which is just spicy oil poured all over already greasy chicken. Stick to hot sauce.
After hunting for weeks elsewhere with no luck, a family friend finally listened to me this morning and hunted out of my back yard. Got two gobblers with one shot, 20 min after I told him they'd be there. So I was checking on the birds where they were chilling in my shed freezer, turned around and ran right into my wooden kayak I totally forgot was hanging there. They say concussions come in groups. I'm sure there's one or two more in my near future. I'm totally getting CTE in the future.
Met a girl last night, talked to her for a good hour or so. Wasn't completely sold on whether or not I was into it/her. Suddenly realized she looked almost exactly like a female version of one of my good friends and couldn't unsee it. No dice
If this weekend yielded one positive thing, it was this: a card given to me by a member of church who lives in a group home. She's a squirrelly old lady but decent enough. These artistic items were included in the envelope.
I just got back from spending the weekend at my folks, which means I survived: My mother ranting about what a terrible job she did raising heathens who won't sit through a 2-hour mass that is so overcrowded they have to set up folding chairs in the aisles. Watching the Charlton Heston "Ten Commandments" and having to explain what is going on to her every five minutes. And I quote: "I don't understand how you can remember all that stuff."
I'm so glad to be an adult. Not having to go to church is freakin' great, especially since, and no offense or to pass a faux-humble brag, I've never believed in the Big Guy Upstairs. Other great thing was I found myself pleasantly surprised to be invited by a friend's sister to go to an adults-only Easter egg hunt, where the plastic eggs had cash, condoms, candy, tickets for a end-of-game liquor raffle, and I got to help hide the eggs. We had a good time. Also saw Zootopia two times this weekend, what a damn good film. I recommend it, and will join the bandwagon of saying that Batman versus Superman: Dawn of Justice sucks. Have some sad Affleck:
Wife and I hosted Easter in the city and made both our families come up for the weekend. Our moms were overjoyed because they didnt have to do anything for once and the wife was excited to host. Too much food, too much booze. It was also my first experience having a ham from the Honey Baked Ham Store. They are packed with an insane amount of sodium, but it was ridiculously good.
I did my taxes last night and noticed that my gross wages were a little less than my negotiated salary, which is annoying enough on its own, but then I remembered that they gave us a bonus of a week's pay last March. Either they didn't report that to the IRS or they shorted us all year and gave the difference back as a "bonus." They just handed out this year's "bonus" last week.
Hey Crown, I heard a priest in your town gambled away $500K set aside to help refugees coming to Canada. Bravo.
Out in Kansas City preparing for a night of networking, eating, and most of all, drinking. I've been up since 3 am. Hopefully I can keep from drooling on myself.
Hey Canadians - quick question. Trying to plan a mini road trip with my woman for this summer. I was thinking doing Calgary to Vancouver (and then to Seattle), so that way we can see Banff national park and Glacier National Park. Is that route a decent one to take? Anything we should do instead?
Are you trying to go for Stampede? If so, book your hotel room now. Yesterday. Last year. Places book up fast. Edit: Because Juice doesn't know from Stampede... http://www.calgarystampede.com/
My friend and I did Seattle to Calgary in one day, after first spending the morning at the Experience Music Project. Please do NOT do that. You'll be a hazard on the road after driving for 15 hours straight and getting home at 3am. Having said that, we went via Roger's Pass, and there are some stunning views. If you have the time make sure you go to the Banff Springs Hotel, if only for brunch or something (it's expensive). Anywhere in the Okanogan is good; also, that time of year, so is Kelowna.
I've done Sterling, Colorado to the Chicago/Rockford area in one shot, takes about the same amount of time.
Be prepared for a shit-ton of tourists. For me, it's an annoyingly high number of tourists. A ton of Asians-in-rental-cars type tourists. I did the trip a few years go in my "Anything But Video Games Cross Country Adventure" (which included a fair bit of time on DCC's couch in Winterpeg due to a failed differential). Banff is absolutely gorgeous, but unless you get off the beaten path, it'll be fucking busy. I basically fought for parking, had lunch, and bailed. Lots of beautiful scenery in and out of the place, but all the camp sites were over-full, the roads were packed, and any kind of attraction/viewing-station was a parking lot. I found that as you got away from Jasper and Banff (I did both), it thinned out, but right around those two places it was packed. Spoiler: some pics Whole trip pics here: http://imgur.com/a/yVGSm So if you're planning on the Banff thing, I'd plan a day or two of driving to enjoy the scenery, and booking a hotel early. On your way through to Vancouver you'll run through my current residence, Kelowna. It's a fantastic wine area in the summer... and you could either drive through it (it DOES look like one giant strip mall if you don't get off the highway), or you could easily spend 4-6 days wine touring and enjoying the scenery. This is a three minute drive from my house. Needless to say, it doesn't suck. And that's before you get to Vancouver. So yeah, depending on how much time you have set aside for the trip will kind of determine the quality of the trip.
