It's quite the barometer imo: are they still "Republicans" as we remember them or are they now Trumpists in full? How many other GOP were looking to this specific race before choosing their side?

A grandstanding politician that is solely focused on advancing to higher office got kicked out on her ass? Did she really compare herself to Lincoln? Hate Trump all you want but he killed three of the most noxious political dynasties of the last half century. Bye Felicia.

Bush and Clinton might fuck back off into the ether, but I don't think Ms. Cheney is done, by a long shot.

Trump on the other hand seems done. I've seen a few polls/articles since RvW was reversed that basically stated since his "re-emergence" onto the political headlines, most GOP races are now more competitive than they were, and the candidates he's backed are less....palatable for the broad swath of the population. He's had some primary wins, sure, but that's a far cry from electoral victories.

The more he stays in the news, especially for shit like lawsuits, his CFO pleading guilty to fraud, etc, the worse it gets for GOP candidates. Hell, you've got Fox New's Dominion lawsuit shaping up, Lindsey Graham having to appear in court...all the while, he hasn't done shit to improve his appeal to the folks who voted him out last time.

Dude has hollowed out the Republican party, and I think that's finally starting to sink in.

Rudy Giuliani is testifying before the Fulton County grand jury in Atlanta this morning. This is the investigation that Trump should fear the most. Lindsey Graham will end up testifying too, after he has exhausted his appeals of the subpoena. If charges are brought against Trump or any of his associates for election tampering, the only thing that could save them is a pardon from Governor Kemp - you know, the guy Trump said should be jailed for not declaring him as the winner of Georgia in the 2020 election.

We must live in completely different bubbles because the way you describe moderate non trump fanatic republicans is well off the ones I know who are about the same on him as usual and still are weary of the medias’ amped up stilted portrayal of everything he does. I do see a lot moving on to Desantis because he certainly project a much calmer even tempered demeanor.

Cheney might try and run somewhere at some point but the appetite for Bush era Neocon republicans is at an all time low. Particularly with how she’s built her whole reputation and career on, being a Cheney, and being a Republican that doesn’t like Trump (obviously basking in the Seneca/Manchin-esque spotlight more than some true principles). She’s got zero substance otherwise. It wouldn’t even reach Beto orourke levels of competitiveness. Unless she switches parties but then how much weight would she carry having a single attribute the left wants?

The point isn't that Cheney is great, it's that the voters of Wyoming are terrible. Whatever your objection to Cheney is (and there are many) it wasn't why the voters of Wyoming voted her out. They voted her out for one reason and one reason only: she wasn't worse.

Cheney isn't over because Trump IS over. She's the most visible anti-Trump voice, and she has things the other anti-Trump folks don't: visible leadership on the Jan 6 committee, name recognition, and her family connections. When the Trump implosion occurs, she'll be one of the folks who benefits tremendously. I see her moving to a purple state and upsetting a Democrat within the next few years, possibly in a Senate run, if not something more ambitious immediately.

The excuse that the media is exagerrating Trump, like most of his excuses, is wearing thin. Increasingly, Trump voters can't claim to be moderates. Reality has a strong liberal bias. The media bias against Trump is true to an extent, but the facts are becoming harder and harder to skew and distort.

If Trump, then the Republican voters have few reasons to vote for their own party. No fiscal responsibility. No coherent platform. No reform, unless you count "Howdy Arabia"'s version of Sharia law, and that's not even Trump's bag.

If you believe the election was a fraud, why would you go out and vote in the next one? The abortion gambit is done and if Kansas is any indication, the GOP will pay a heavy price for that among women (literally the voting bloc that caused Trump to lose in 2020). The only wedge issue that has any resonance is guns, and there was a gun bill with astonishingly bipartisan support.

Also, as evidence mounts against some of the whacky shit these folks claim, and the actual fraud, defamation and other charges start to pile up, there's an ebb of voters who simply stop believing these are good people victimized by whatever cabal, conspiracy or bias.

Desantis has no chance in hell of beating Trump in a primary, unless Trump is disqualified because of some legal issues (which I don't discount as a possibility). Trump has no chance in hell of winning again. Hell, even his ability to fundraise amongst the major donors has been hurt, because they saw him sucker so many folks into donating to his legal defense fund under the auspices of January 6th, the ongoing legal battles, his age/health, the tenuous relationship between Trump and Fox News, and the simplest effect that his involvement galvanizes the opposition in a way that little else does.

I'm not saying the GOP is done, or that the Democrats are better/will will Texas and Alabama. I think Trump's failure to improve his standing with voters means the GOP has squandered a pretty solid advantage going into the midterms, and I think that will only increase as we get closer to the fall.

This is lowkey a brutal and deliberate insult to the voters. But Wyoming voters are too stupid to realize she's calling them stupid.

Jan 6th Committee hath no fury like a Congresswoman scorned. She literally has nothing left to lose. This should be fun.

I like when they bring in those types of storylines. It’s like watching wrestling back in the early 2000s and remembering that it used to be called the Corporate Elbow.

Poll from the University of Wyoming:

That signal is so strong that, statistically speaking, it's the only signal. If you support Trump's attack on the United States, you voted Hageman, if you don't, you voted Cheney.

Hey guys, I had a random thought: what do y'all think the odds are that those videos off of Hunter Biden's laptop are actually deep-fakes?

Why would someone need to fake it when he’s already a well-known crackhead? Some of those videos are hilarious.

Very unlikely. If there's foul play afoot, what strikes me as far more likely is that real content was accessed through a hack of some account of his, and was then layered with small numbers of falsified documents and presented as "the contents of Hunter's laptop" to hide its actual provenance. Most deepfakes can be spotted by eye, and even those that can't can be spotted by forensic analysts.
