“The borders…are…secure, right? And we know…they are…secure because…they are borders. And these borders, that we know are secure…they are secure borders.”
The other great irony is the border wall probably made things worse. That entire border area is covered by a brutal desert. To construct the wall, they had to build roads and infrastructure to deliver materials and supplies. Guess who uses those roads and infrastructure?
I think it has to do with his campaign promises to undo Trump restrictions and create new EOs? Like where he said Undoing executive orders issued by Trump https://www.migrationpolicy.org/news/public-charge-final-rule-far-last-word Undoing policy that Trump put in place which undid policy in effect for 20 years. Devil is in the details, but this is the type of talking points where people read two things and then make a set in stone, unmovable position where Biden has an open door policy, but he's simply undoing the disaster Trump made out of our immigration policy while he was president. In June over 200,000 illegal immigrants were caught crossing the southern border, which is over 300% increase from those apprehended in Trump Junes. (Maybe they're better at catching them now?) https://www.cbp.gov/newsroom/stats/southwest-land-border-encounters I don't want to be "that guy", but did you even look at the data? 300% increase over Trump Junes...Maybe we can spin it another way and say, "Trump reduces border crossings by 85% in June 2020!!!!" Let's just forget about that pesky pandemic thing that happened in 2020. Even though illegal border crossings are up by a large percentage, Biden reduced prosecution by 80%. https://freebeacon.com/biden-administration/biden-halts-prosecutions-follegal-border-crossingsr-most-i/ Prosecution takes up valuable court time, resources, and money for something which will largely be useless. You're going to fine an illegal immigrant who crosses the border and send them back over and expect them to pay? Yes, we'd have a record of them crossing and being caught, but beyond that, why are we wasting tax payer dollars for this? If we did prosecute all of the illegal crossers, the other side of the argument would be "Biden administration wasting millions of tax payer money prosecuting illegal immigrants, overloading the courts and allowing criminals to walk free through loose judicial rulings." I'm guessing it's those sorts of things, but I don't know if it's a policy, per se. I feel as if this the next in line attempt to make Biden look terrible since the Republican party has been taking L after L this year with how fucked up they've been doing policy wise and their Dear Leader calling for the defunding of the FBI because he is a crook.
this. I didn’t realize how racist Latinos could be until trump came around. They’re racist toward they’re own race and just don’t give a shit. “Dude why are you voting for him? He literally hates Hispanics.” “No not me, the cholos.”
Most of the Hispanics I know that are Trumpers worked their way through the immigration system legally and despise the *insert country here* coming over the border.
people also miss the point that the immigrant have to agree to go to these places in the first place. It’s illegal (never mind inhumane and immoral, but that’s never stopped the GOP) just to round them up and ship them somewhere. You can offer them a bus ticket, which they can accept. If I was running a landscaping or construction company in Martha’s Vinyard, I’d be head over heels that some planes full of people willing and eager to work were arriving! And I’m sure they were more than happy to go there! but of course, people see the headline and get happy because “it makes the libs cry” or whatever. Like man, chill out. Sending them on airplanes is a HORRIBLE waste of tax dollars for a political stunt, but the people who went agreed to it and I’m sure they’re gonna be just fine. And anyone there who hates the idea of having them in the community can fuck right the hell off.
Same here. I also know someone from turkey who worked his way through legally and now loves trump because he hates immigrants. Like dude, you won the lottery (they only give out so many visas per year over there apparently). He’s also a cop now. Go figure.
According to reports from the people transported, it was a complete lie to get them there. https://www.npr.org/2022/09/15/1123109768/migrants-sent-to-marthas-vineyard Also, why is the governor of FLORIDA, taking migrants from TEXAS, wasting taxpayer dollars and shipping them to Martha's Vineyard if not for it being a publicity stunt to get his name out ahead of his presidential run in 2024. It's actually pretty fucking disgusting.
hadnt seen the npr report. Also thought they were immigrants to Florida, not Texas. Regardless, yes I believe it was a horrible publicity stunt and is one of the many reasons I think this dude is literal scum. However, I don’t think the end result will be all that bad, IF they agreed to it (like they have to with bus passes). still, im sure there are a ton of underprivileged constituents in Florida who would have loved to see some of that money he spent on reserving planes go into their communities instead
I still have some family in FL and they are absolutely loving this as is a good sized portion of the country. And the $12M number being floated around is the budget for transporting illegal immigrants out of FL. Not that it cost $12M flying them to Martha's Vineyard. I think we have a very real chance of a 2024 DeSantis/Newsome ticket but I sure as shit hope not.
My favourite thing about him is getting to remind any Hillary supporter, over and over again, that Bernie would have won and it’s their fault that Trump did. Because it’s the truth.
But it's not. Dude caps out at like 30% of the Democratic base every time he runs, and while I personally haven't seen a pit bill kill an infant, I have to imagine that's what it would look like if Republican operatives were given a chance to run ads against a man who can be quoted as calling himself a socialist in a general election.
Bernie has the dubious distinction of being right when no one cares, short on practical solutions to issues that don't make his political adversaries multiply, and if he lived in any other developed nation, he would be a mainstream candidate. But he don't be, though....
So it turns out that Abbott is actually increasing illegal immigration, because cartels and other coyotes are using the "Abbot Buses" as a selling point to encourage people to cross the border. Turns out that real America (Chicago, New York, Boston, DC etc) is where these migrants have wanted to go the whole time, and crossing and getting a free ride is a lot easier than crossing and having to pay your own way. https://twitter.com/AnaCabrera/status/1570476526965248000
Politically-motivated action, instead of thoughtful policy making at the will of the people, has unintended consequences?! Shocking!
I've got a question for the non-USA residents of this board: what is the penalty for "illegally immigrating" to your country? Even as a US citizen, it is illegal to reenter this country anywhere but through an official port of entry. Many years ago (Before they required passports, about 2005), I was crossing the Nuevo Progresso bridge on foot, but saw the line coming back stretching into Mexico I realized I didn't have enough time to do some quick shopping and get to my next destination on time, so I turned around back to the turnstiles. Suddenly, a Customs agent shouted at me to halt and turn around. I explained my situation, but he didn't give a shit. He said he was going to arrest me for illegal entry if I didn't march my ass over to Mexico and wait in line on the other side. I am not making this up. I literally never crossed the bridge, and they wouldn't let me come back until I "checked in" with the border guards on the other side. I can tell you for a FACT that pretty much every English-speaking country will NOT let me in LEGALLY, because I'm a felon. Even if I'm paying to visit. What if I want to claim asylum in Canada, Australia, or England? Hell, fuck the English speaking countries; what if I want to go to France, or Germany? Are those countries xenophobic assholes for not letting me in?
