They've been dealing with his Teflon ass for decades now, they won't waste the money to sue until the state makes him bleed.
I guess I honestly didn’t know the state could just sue him civilly. No tax evasion or sec laws he broke supposedly misrepresenting the size of his company?
It sounds like the banks are full on cooperating with the AG. If she can do all the heavy lifting for them on the city's dime, it's a lot easier for them to file subsequent suits if/when he's found guilty. Also, she's stated that she's referring crimes uncovered to the IRS and DOJ since they're likely on the federal level and she doesn't have the jurisdiction to bring criminal charges as a state AG.
NY AG made a criminal referral to the DOJ and IRS, but I think those issues are likely federal, so we'll see what they do.
I don't think yet, unless DOJ announces charges. The NY charges were pretty much a foregone conclusion, but shouldn't be the same threat as the DOJ charges.
Although the NY AG finally did something no one else has done yet. She stood at a podium and said "This muthafucka broke."
There will be some post today about how the AG is a nasty dumb horrible worthless loser moron loser, I’m sure.
Trump tried to claim that Mar-A-Lago was worth $739 million. He bought it for $7 million in 1985. He's trying to claim that buying a house in Florida was almost as good a financial decision in the 80s as buying shares in Apple.
Larry Ellison's 62,200 square foot megamansion on 16 acres of barrier island was only $173 million. Methinks Trump may have lied about the value of his properties a tad. NY AG put the current value at $75 million. A 10x increase in value, I buy; a 100x, I absolutely do not.
Trump said in an interview that the president has the power to declassify documents, from 200 yards away… …with MIND BULLETS!!! That’s telekinesis, Kyle!
I only saw a snippet of that interview... and it was mind numbing. I have to believe that he's been pushing that angle with his legal team, who have been pushing back on it... and so he's raising it to the public to try and force it. Just like the "drink bleach and shove lights up your ass" comments he was making during the COVID sessions... where you KNOW he had ideas that he floated in the back room that got shot down by the experts, but he had to push through and ignore them. I also love the fact that the judge they chose for that special master thing basically told them to fuck off, stop being stupid.
Not only that, he gave Judge Cannon a verbal bitch-slap, saying that she abused her power. Now that that's out of the way, Garland better move his ass on this before the Midterms are over.
The AG couldn't account for the PAC money, and the millions that idiots sent him to 'stop the steal', that turned into his legal defense fund. He's far from broke, but his real estate game is hurt, if nothing else, by the accusation itself. While this case plays out, he can't use the properties mentioned in it for collateral, and any bank doing business with him has to consider the likelihood of a $250m case against him. The most likely scenario is a settlement, and the sticky points of that will have to do with him admitting guilt or refusing to operate in NY. The more he is in the news, the better for Democrats, especially for shit like this. So. Garland might make some waves next month.
I know that Fox's entire purpose is to run cover for him, but I really wish some interviewer would ask the super-obvious followup: "Why would you declassify TS/SCI information on methods and sources? And especially why would you do so without notifying the agencies who may have to alter their tactics or get human sources out of harm's way first?" His lie in many ways would be worse than the truth.
For those playing at home, here's the classification authorizations. As president, Trump had authority to classify and declassify information, however he was still subject to following the guidelines proscribed within federal law. The president cannot classify/declassify information willy nilly.
I believe that a settlement offer was made, and Ms. James refused it. She's got a case and she intends to prosecute it.
