My guess is there are some contractual obligations to Truth Social. Him going back to Twitter would probably be like Federer wearing Nike again. I'm sure he'll either weasel out of it or ignore it soon enough though. "To all of those who have asked, I will not be going to the Inauguration on January 20th."
lol I was just curious what he said that got him banned. I didn't follow him before, and I don't feel like clicking on his page now, and having the algorithm suggest things in my timeline like his account.
It wasn't any one thing, it was more the culmination of that whole "attempted violent overthrow of the American government" thing. He got banned like two days after Jan 6.
I'm not sure if this goes in this thread or the serious one. But, when Biden said, that he just doesn't know or remember what semi-automatic means? Like, he didn't really mean "semi-automatic" and meant "assaut rifles" or some other nebulous "bad guns" term? Or, does he really want to ban semiautomatic handguns and shotguns, too?
I dunno, Rush. There are A LOT of Dems in Congress who would love to ban ALL guns. Remember back in the early '00s, and some Dem, I think it was Feinstein, was calling bolt action hunting rifles "high powered sniper rifles"? You know that if they somehow ban semiautos, they're going to come after pistols next. Because most gun deaths are from pistols, not "assault rifles . " It's like the whole abortion issue with the Republicans: they kept trying to pass restrictive laws "for the safety of the mother and the child, " when they really just wanted an outright ban. And now they finally got it.
exactly. Look no further than what's happening in Canada to see what they want with guns. What's funny is, the people who want these kind of laws passed aren't exclusive to democrats -- I know a lot of people who agree with banning some or most categories of guns, who identify as moderates, independents, don't care much about politics, and even some republicans!! But almost exclusively, those who agree with these type of laws, have both never shot the type of firearm they are talking about banning, and are not actually knowledgeable about the firearms themselves and their capabilities. I was speaking with someone yesterday who, I kid you not, believed that the liberal states had modified their AR's to "not shoot as far." He also thought that I chose a 9mm for my CCW because "don't 9mm bounce around inside of you and everything?" When I was telling him about the hogs that were starting to get onto our place again, he was floored when I told him I usually hunt for them with 10 rounds in a 20 rd mag (and a spare in my back pocket), as he had never considered the weight issues of a 30 rounder in an AR platform. And this was an otherwise moderately intelligent person who wants to get into shooting. People just have no clue what they're talking about unless they are into guns. That'd be like me trying to re-write the rules for soccer when I can't stand to even watch a match.
Yea, i normal hate people who say this, but FUCK Trudeau. Trying to ban everything semi auto by the end of the year. Yup one of the ones he is trying to ban is the almost 100 year old M1.
I really feel horrible for y'all. I'm not saying this trying to dunk on Canada or whatever. From what I know about it, y'all didn't do anything to ask for this (but if you did... congrats?), it's just really getting out of hand. I stopped reading all the gun websites and blogs right around when Jan 6th happened and they all turned into another part of the far right media arm, so I only hear about it in bits and pieces. My understanding is, yall be fucked though. Sucks man.
Nothing that i know of that happened lately to prevoke this. And everything that does happen mostly illegally abtained guns anyways, that come across the border from you guys. I dont think the AR has been used to any degree in shooting in Canada. Anything black(pistols,ar's, etc) you already need a Restricted license, your spouse, any ex have to sign off on it. And it takes about a year to get now with a 2 day course. And you are only allowed to go directly from your house to the range or to a gun smith.
Canada's gun laws in response to US mass shootings is kind of like your parents refusing to let you keep an opossum as a pet because your older brother liked to shoot meth, put jumper cables on his nipples, pretend he was Rambo and try and fuck it, and no one could convince them they weren't going to have that problem in TWO children. Or they see Trailer Park Boys and/or Letterkenny as one bad Call of Duty match and an airsoft episode away from turning this bitch into Columbine. Christ, the mass shootings are so fucking stupid here I am considering moving back to Baltimore, where if you get shot in the street, at least the streets believe you deserved it.
The Nova Scotia massacre— which the RCMP fucked up and accounted for it almost as bad as the USA did Uvalde— 100% provoked this.
I'm OK with no more semiauto rifles. You don't need them for hunting, they're terrible for home defense, they're only good for either rock & rolling at the range, or killing lots of people really fast. I say this as someone who WANTS an ar-15 for their collection, better yet a M16A2 for old times' sake. I'm willing to forfeit mine if we can keep the psychos from buying theirs.
There are hunting scenarios where semiauto rifles are not only advantageous, it's potentially more humane as it allows for a quick follow up shot to take down a wounded animal before it moves out of range, behind cover, etc. Feral hog and coyote hunting for example. These are animals that rarely stand still or move in straight lines for any distance. Difficult to cleanly kill with the first round no matter how good a shot you are. Additionally, these are nuisance animals with no bag limit that often can be found in groups/packs. With no bag limit, it's ideal to take multiple if possible. With a semiauto, a hunter can reasonably exect to easily take 3-5 or more, whereas with a bolt action, they might cleanly take 2 or 3. As far as home defense, it depends on the situation. At the suburban home I currently live in? My shotgun is my preferred home defense weapon. In rural Appalachia Pennsylvania where I grew up? Where I'm more likely to engage someone outside before they can enter the house? My AR is my preferred weapon.
hogs have been destroying our ranch again. Today I am going out with my AR-15 hunting for them. I have other options, but this is the best one. With a large group, you sometimes get the luxury of aiming with the first shot, then all bets are off. As soon as that first shot goes, they all start running and you aim for whatever you can hit at that point. Get them on the ground, then put them down humanely with follow up shots once the group is either out of range or has scattered so much you can no longer find them. As AF said, coyotes as well. Had this recently with a rabid one -- multiple shots in quick succession were needed. I also do not get the home defense argument. They're EXCELLENT for home defense, in some scenarios. In my house, there really isn't anywhere where a pistol would be out of range, so that's what I keep in the nightstand safe, along with a flashlight. But a lightweight semi-auto, with a light attached to it, is basically ideal if you have longer hallways or are more of a novice and uncomfortable or not as accurate with pistols. Everyone shoots worse under duress and motor skills go out the window. Being able to fire simply by pulling the trigger again is exactly what you need if you're panicking because your house just got broken into.
Right, when I think home defense I think wall penetration, is that .223 or .308 going to stop where you want it to, or in the body of someone you couldn't see? Outside the home, some "bad guys riding over the hill" shit, you can't work the bolt fast enough. Same for that very specific case of hunting multiple animals at once for pest control. Exceptions to the rule, both.
You gun people see everything as a nail, so you reach for your AR-Hammer. The solution to hogs is to infiltrate their political system, corrupt their institutions with a combination of bribes and blackmail, and then institute policies that will create internal divisions within their society. Do that, and they will destroy themselves for you.
