There is nothing smart about making good faith deals with a proven bad faith actor/spineless Trump bootlicker. There'd be nothing actually *holding* him to any promises made, and clearly he sees no future remaining in the party. Fucking over the Dems would score him the points he needs.
What the hell is happening with this site, was there an update? It's broken for me now, using Brave browser on my phone. I cannot enter text in the box without it basically going haywire, am forced to type elsewhere and paste here.
Staying on topic: it was the sweetest schadenfreude to see Mister Santos sitting alone at the loser's table. Even the GOP who desperately want his vote don't want anything to do with him.
4th vote ongoing and *already lost*. McCarthy can only afford 5 defections, and he's at 12. A win is impossible unless 7 Dems decide to switch. But they still have to get everyone's vote, only to start up again with the 5th effort.
I know I asked this yesterday, but let me rephrase my question: How long will these useless votes go on for? When will they actually, you know, start doing their jobs IF they can't agree on a new speaker for the foreseeable future? What harm is there in NOT having a speaker? What does the speaker even do, again?
I think the Speaker of the House position is mandated by the Constitution, isn't it? And, the Speaker swears in the new members of congress, and has administrative roles, in addition to presiding. He or she is also next in line to the Presidency if something happens to the Pres & Vice Pres.
Somewhat related, but who has watched Pelosi in the House? Regardless what you think of her politics, she was a master at that position and her work ethic was ridiculous.
Every time they nominate McCarthy there's a sad round of applause from his supporters. On the next vote I want one of the Democrats to join in like the Joker in the Dark Knight:
"Former Michigan U.S. Rep. Fred Upton's name has been floated for several weeks as a choice who could win bipartisan support should Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-California, fail to rally the 218 votes he needs to become the new leader of the GOP-controlled House." It's just crazy enough to work and not crazy enough to actually happen
I don’t even know Mcarthys story. Guess I don’t follow politics that much. Is the turtle for or against him? As that can decide if it matters to me. I’d be out if the turtle is in.
McCarthy is regarded by Democrats as a spineless wimp and slow wit who supports the wrong policies, and by Republicans as a spineless wimp and slow wit who supports the right policies.
Drama so good they had to call in Jomboy: https://twitter.com/Jomboy_/status/1610492253671145472 His read is pretty close. AOC said after the fact that McCarthy had told Gaetz that the Democrats were going to give McCarthy the votes he needed, and Gaetz was checking with AOC if the Democrats had actually said that. AOC told him no such assurance had been made and that McCarthy was bluffing.
What I find absolutely hilarious, other than Pelosi's laughing at the results, is the fact that McCarthy has already moved his shit into the Speaker's office. Can you imagine if he has to move them back out for someone else? Because I can, and that is even more funny.
Hell truly has frozen over when Matt Gaetz makes good points. Pitch McCarthy’s shit out onto the lawn like a scorned spouse would.
