just wanted to say I really appreciate your perspective on stuff like this. I’ve largely tuned out everything (even CNN is talking about the Biden classified stuff like it’s a two sided story), but you still listening to the actual crazies in an area I know is full of them, is taking a bullet to the chest and telling us all how it feels thanks for your service
Really , all you can do is laugh sometimes. The hypocrisy is as hilarious as it is infuriating at times. Republicans: "The DOJ/ FBI/ ETC. has been weaponized against conservatives by the evil Democrats!" Also Republicans: "The first thing we're gonna do when we get back into power is investigate the Bidens! All of them! Joe, Hunter, Jill, even their fucking dog!" Republicans: "The election was stolen from Trump! He should be our president!" Republicans today: "You know, Trump should really step aside and let someone else be the face of the party." Here's a good one: "THERE'S GONNA BE A RED WAVE, BITCHES! WE'RE COMING FOR YOU!" Republicans: "In-person voting ONLY! Anything else is FRAUD! We must adhere to strict voting hours, or else the Democrats are going to cheat, somehow!" Republicans after the election: "Voting hours were too short! Blue collar shift workers couldn't make it to the polls in time! That's why we didn't get our RED WAVE!" I could go on and on. As I see it, I already voted, so there's nothing else I can do but sit back and watch the clown show. Last of all, I don't want anyone to think that I'm some Lefty Liberal yahoo; the left does some REALLY dumb shit too, and I don't like Biden or his people. I just wish things didn't have to be this way.
I'm 100% there with you. My wife's side of the family thinks that, because I really fucking hate trump, support "the gays" and some democratic policies, and fine with living and let live, that therefore I'm a "stupid liberal" as I've heard them call me multiple times behind my back. My side of the family is full of more moderate republicans, so I'm more comfortable talking politics with them because I do agree with some republican stances, however when I call out the hypocrisy in instances like you did, it throws them for a loop. Then my actually liberal family and friends get pissed because I don't 100% support their side. In short, I absolutely fucking hate this all-or-nothing approach. It's that "you're either with us or against us" and it's dumb as shit. I hate both sides. Policy wise, there's some good and some bad. But that "win at all costs in order to spite the other," and especially their fans.... let's be honest, they aren't voters, but fans, like of a sports team, are obnoxious as fuck.
I’m with both of you. I lean left, but I vote for whomever I think is the better candidate. A registered Democrat, I’ve voted Republican for president, governor, congressional and local many times. Honestly, I don’t think anyone out there really represents me: A pragmatic but slightly left leaning atheist, I prefer evidence-based decisions, I’m pro choice and all in favor of doing or being whatever you want as long as it doesn’t hurt someone else. I’m not anti immigration exactly but think tighter controls and an actual cohesive and enforced policy are necessary. And so on. I think our political system needs a drastic overall to remove the two party bullshit that is killing this country. Ranked choice voting would help.
this pretty much me except I'd like to add the actual enforcement of the separation of the church and state
Spoiler We went through this with lightbulbs a few years ago, and now with stoves. Is this really how it's going to be every time we invent a better technology from here on out?
Not quickly enough. I am convinced the entire Boomer generation is suffering from late term effects of lead poisoning. They ate the paint as children and we've been dealing with their poisoned brains since.
Lead paint, leaded gasoline, being trapped in cars and small rooms filled with second hand cigarette smoke - if I didn’t grow up in the 60s and 70s I’d be a fucking genius. Or at least maybe less stupider and more smarter.
Except for cooking gas is the better option over electric. Has a constant output of energy. Pressure canning for example needs constant heat to be safe.
Paint? Lead? They poisoned themselves simply from the food they ate. They taught themselves that a pizza— a 2000 calorie wheel of grease— is healthy because it can incorporate all four food groups. Obey that food pyramid. Make sure you get plenty of processed milk, cereal and bread into your body every day. And smoke the right kind of cigarettes that doctors recommend, to give your “T-Zone” the proper smooth flavour it needs.
Also, you can immediately turn off the heat, and it's obvious when the heat is still on. Speaking as someone who has been burned on a stove that was SUPPOSED to be off, fuck electric stoves.
Induction stoves provide instantaneous control, and the surface doesn't get hot at all as it works through induction and not conduction.
