Just waiting on "WON'T SOMEBODY RID ME OF THIS MEDDLESOME PRIEST?" but even he and his low cunning are more subtle than that.
https://twitter.com/atrupar/status/1639438248924835841 Been waiting for this to happen. DeSantis has been leaning on his reputation in conservative circles as having "done COVID right" as a big part of his appeal for 2024. The truth however is that, in actuality, he did a terrible job. Deaths per capita in Florida were 57% higher than in California, and ultimately caught up to and surpassed New York, even though New York got hit hard and early before we had any treatments or idea how to mitigate the disease. That truth has failed to pierce the conservative bubble, because, well, bubble. But now Trump is finally saying it from inside the bubble. Finally someone that the base will listen to is pointing out that the COVID numbers in Florida were really bad, and that's all on DeSantis. The last few weeks have gone really poorly for DeSantis, and I think his chances of being able to win the Republican primary have dropped precipitously. His strategy so far is just extremely ineffective. He looks utterly unprepared to handle Trump, and even worse for him, his strategy so far has been to sell out for Trump's base at the cost of likely losing votes in the general should he make it that far. He's not just failing, he's failing at the thing he prioritized.
Speaking of Florida politics, Disney was pretty quiet after DeSantis attacked them. Turns out it was because they were up to their own legal shenanigans, in which they crafted a contract to their benefit that would literally outlast the British Royal Family:
It must have been one hell of a blowjob for $130k. Smart to do it with a grand jury. Testimony is usually sealed and it’s hard to accuse the DA of being biased when it’s a grand jury voting on it. I guess it’s one election he didn’t lose?
The only votes in which Trump has received a majority of votes cast were the 2016 electoral college, and then like a half dozen times related to crimes he's committed, both in a grand jury and in impeachment proceedings.
DeSantis asserts that Florida will not extradite Trump to New York, in clear violation of the US Constitution. Likely to be moot, as Trump is expected to surrender himself, but Republicans are really putting the US on a very bad path. McCarthy isn't helping either.
Bragg has some pointed words for the House Judiciary, Oversight, and House Administration Committees.
Judge grants partial summary judgement to Dominion in their lawsuit against Fox. Judge granted summary judgement on the issue of falsity, but not on actual malice. This means that at trial Dominion doesn't have to prove the statements made about them were false; that will be taken as granted. They do still have to prove the issue of actual malice however, and that will be left up to the jury.
Story that I completely missed until it concluded: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/roy-mcgrath-captured-larry-hogan-former-chief-of-staff-maryland/ I think this may be the highest ranking official ever gunned down in a standoff with cops.
Where are we getting the idea he was a sovereign citizen? Chief of staff to the Governor of Maryland seems an odd resume for a sovcit.
I didn’t even click the link, I just enjoy having sovereign citizens get fucked by the authoritarian dick of the law.
Not uncommon for initial charges to be a felony charge. I was once charged with 3(or was it 4?) felonies and ended up with one misdemeanor and that was with a public defender.
